I like learning from these guys that have been working on things for many years. They typically have more of a "common sense" approach to fixing things (not just cars). These days many ASE mechanics will imediately show you their fancy balance machine, instead of getting down to the primary causes of inbalance and vibration.
I had a banned rim under my olds delta 88 1978, the ban whas bigger than shown on the vid. they put a lot of led on it and it din't had a vibration at all.
but it can't be good, so I have my steel oldsmobile 15" rim straitened by the velgendokter (rimdoctor) in the Netherlands for 45 euro's.
alls i know is, when i do a roadforce and balance on a Range rover, the car shakes and shimmys all over the place, after the roadforce and balance is done, PROBLEM SOLVED no more vibration.
All the MG wheels I have balanced, only a small handful were actually round.
The balance machine displays "replace wheel". Only fix is new wheels or properly repair the old ones
wheels need to be true, as well as the tire, to get a good balance. You can balance a square wheel, but it ain't going to ride well! Vibration is more than balance!
Also roadforce balance is only for alloy wheels. You don't roadforce steel wheels.
Hmmm I wonder if thats whats wrong with my car. I get over 60mph and its like being in a paint shaker. Theyre new wheels though but I did get them balanced recently.
The drive-shaft is rotating at its reduced speed, after the gearbox.... not 3500rpm....
I am sure that I am correct....

A balance will never fix a tire or wheel defect

I thought tightening certain spokes could help to straighten wire wheels...
