  • Used to play a neutral grip, friends talked me into a strong lt hand. Have been chickenwinging ever since. I couldn't figure out how to stop the "winging" until I just watched your video. Next trip to the range I will go back to my neutral grip and hope I stop the wing. Thanks

  • the flip is fine, but the flip has to happen after the ball has been struck, preferably with a forward leaning shaft and shallow angle of attack. this isn't advocating a flip before impact that adds loft and never gets the center of the face to the ball unless it's perched up, it's advocating the way to freewheel and potentially add speed through impact. take a look at fred couples' hands through impact and then try to convince yourself he is not doing what hawk is saying. you can't.

  • Notice the comments about flipping. By the time you flip, don't you feel that the ball is already gone off the face and the actual finish of the release is unimportant? It seems that the important part of your advice is in the compression of the ball toward the target. Am I correct?

  • you know 3 different players have won pga events playing cross handed but i dont teach that, so many ways will work i teach what i think is the strongest grip even for the weakest players, natural grip with hands facing palm to palm and palm of right one facing target back of left one facing target, tigers grip by the way, i feel this allows for a free releasing of the clubhead and helps the body stay level through the shot although i may not agree with you all i love you your friend hitmanhawky

  • Hawky, I just looked at your swing in your other video. Why do you advocate that fundamentally 'unsound' flip release when you don't do that in your own golf swing? C'mon, man, don't just make stuff up to be different. You might FEEL like you flip it through impact, but, you don't. I'm surprised you'd encourage your students to work on such a destructive (to good golf shots) technique. Just my opinion.

  • Hitman, I'm sorry, but the best ball strikers in the world, past and present, do NOT have the post impact wrist action you demonstrate / describe. I agree they have an arched left wrist and forward leaning shaft at / through impact, but neither Nicklaus nor Woods, whom you cited as examples, have your look post impact.

  • @earthshine2k read my post here yes i flip it and glad i do know when and how much to flip it read the answers i give in post previous to this and it says it all on how i feel if you dont agree its ok with me but i back up what i say with basic facts. do you flip the club for a flop shot? a little less flip a little less flop, if you want to flop it flip it you want it low dont flip through the hitting area , so common sense says knowing how and when to flip helps control trajectory and spin ...

  • anytime someone says the "proper" grip I cringe. besides that events have been won with neutral, strong, weak, interlock, double interlock (Furyk), baseball, overlap, "intermesh" (Norman), crosshanded, and not to mention short fingers, long and the like. Hogan gripped it in the fingerTIPS, Nicklaus in the fingers, and others in the palm. That being said, if you look at how a swordsman grips a weapon, you will find true strength, leverage and accuracy. Good presentation though.

  • @arniepga you are axactly right ,maybe i should say what i think is the proper grip, anyway this is a grip i feel is the strongest for even the weakness player, because it allows the hands to release naturally. and i feel this grip will be more consistent in ball striking then any other ive seen, and this is the grip tiger uses and jack used and i use so i know this grip very well, yes many have won with different, steve stricker had a nice artical on this grip last golf digest. hitmanhawky

  • wow your good

  • yep i flip, the key is when you flip it and how much you flip, controls spin and trajectory, golf clubhead is like a hammer head and if you nail a nail you do better flipping the hammer head down on the nail, want to hit it low dont release the wrist ( supination ) of left wrist through impact , want to hit it high ( pronate the left wrist through impact how much and when determines how high and how much spin, the best to ever play flipped it, video coming to explain better thanks hitmanhawky ty

  • It seems you are promoting a flipping of the hands through impact instead of the body pivot releasing the club. An independent move with the hands and wrists. Is this correct? Obviously there are a hundred ways to hit a golf ball.

  • @MikePedersenGolfTips it could be called uncocking the club instead of flipping i uncock it , i load my wrist angle and when i uncok it looks and is a flipping of the clubhead , body must turn arms arms must move hands working together and well timed it can produce solid shots. swing should work from ground up.sorry mike if i talked your ear off thanks for the comment ill try to do a video on this to give better understanding of my thoughts thanks buddy hitmanhawky

  • best lesson ive saw on the web ty

  • best lesson ive saw on the web ty

  • can you tell me what the name of that book is? i want to get it.

  • Can't believe the amount of negative comments - Great vid hitmanhawky, I'll definately use this next time I'm on the range - I have either a terrible slice or a nasty pull :/ Can't find the PGA Teaching Manual anywhere either..

  • Jim, i don't think iv'e ever seen Tigers right hand go UNDER his left, only his right going OVER the left. This releasing action you mentioned makes the ball go to the right. This (right hand to the sky) move is a slicers/hackers action. Any feedback would be good, thanks. Martin.

  • Great stuff! Love the book drill, it really shows the squaring up of the club face. Many thanks for this video.

  • hi hawk, i really appreciate that you're sharing this drill/tip about "release". couple of questions sir, a. what's the power ratio of left and right hand for each 3 swing motion and the release? is it 90/10 for all?

    b. can this be applied to driver and hybrid clubs as well?

    c. how can i master the "ball bouncing on the club" drill? i think this drill helps to be consistent on hitting the sweet spot. thanks in advance.

  • Thanks for all your great instruction, it's the best advice I've ever gotten. One thing I'm having trouble with is pulling my left arm up at impact and not extending at impact is there a drill you would recommend? Thanks

  • hey I have sent a video message to you. In the vid i'm the blue dude. I was wondering why my shots have the tendancy to hook sometimes, Im sure it's hook and not draw tho. Also how can I make my shots more consistent at this time I shoot (on average) 10 yards left or right of the target I have. Length is not a problem for me, it's mostly the aim or hooking the shot. I don't have any other problems. I hope you can help, thanks!

  • you are a disgrace to the game of golf. the golf gods have you in their black book dont you forget it. if you want real lessons visit sevam1's channel. he doesnt load the fuck up on chew. shit dude.

  • great lesson hitman, sounds good to me. keep those tips comin !

  • I really think using the book is the key here to really seeing the proper positions to be in, great video. I'm sure using the book will help me get through better what I have been trying to say to my students.

  • whats the name of the book again?

  • I'm a left handed golfer who struggles with the impact zone, I've been using your book drill for a few days and I'm starting to get a feel for it. Hitting the range now, will let you know how it goes

  • Hitman...Just a quick word of thanks for posting this video. I am a long time player who actually managed to shoot consistently in the 80's a couple years ago but I knew something was wrong and you hit my problem right on the head in with this lesson. I now have a renewed zeal for the game and fell my swing is repeatable. If you get time please post a video on the differences between the driver & iron play. Do you use the same swing technique for both?

You are the Man! The "HitMan"

  • I am having trouble with high spin on my driver. Its always been around 4k rpm. I think it may be my release. Will you check out my swing video (w&w is the latest) and see what you think might be causing it?

  • @gduck24 swing looks great gduck, swing center moving in front of ball before impact , take tape and draw line down middle of it , put it on your spine and watch head and spine move in front before impact, this causes steep angle of attack .stay behind and will fix the problem thanks your friend hitmanhawky 30 seconds ago

  • @gduck24 exactly the same with me

  • Well, if you are deaf or never heard yourself, I guess that was a exaggerated (for humorous reason) description of how you sounded. I thought maybe you had chewing tabacco in as well but figured Chinese food sounded funnier. No disrespect intended. Good video though. Your technique will be practiced soon. Thanks!

  • Too bad he talks like he's got mouthful of chinese food.

  • @2xchrome , i do ok 2x considering i am legally deaf thanks for the comment if i can help you in anyway let me know thanks your friend james

  • @hitmanhawky u ass

  • @hitmanhawky Good on you Hitmanhawky :)

  • @2xchrome rofflol

  • Hitmanhawky is so right about the grip. 85% of weekend golfers i know try to start the swing with a strong left hand grip, thinking they are Freddy Couple, and never produce the proper release at impact. When in doubt, look at Tiger's release - I mean his golf game and not the bedroom game - and you will see how neutral or slightly weaken grip position he gets in to form the maximum compression, another thing to achieve at impact. KEEP posting hawky!

  • this old hacker (me) figured this out a couple of years ago. i try to tell my buddies to try it...they just laugh at me. my game has improved greatly and they just laugh ....and pay me :)

  • thank you thank you thank you thank you. Can't say it enough. I had the grip like you were showing (the 90degree). After I watched this video and practiced for about 10 minutes I decided to drive to the range. 1st shot with my 4 iron hit it 205yds and dead straight. Never done that before. Was able to hit it 215 or so with some more practice. I'll be watching all your videos.

  • this must be real close to HOGANS secret, I have played golf for 35 years, never understood how to release the club or what the hand looked like at IMPACT.this is by far the best lesson you can take ,IMPACT,,,, not all the teaching about takeaway, top of the swing, inside ,outside, over the top,, dont be all right hand and all wrong like I was for all these years, Watch this many times and you will understand what HOGAN was trying to tell us in his book. 5 lessons

  • they dont ask how...they ask how many.

  • i have never had a student pay me that was not asking me how, they ask how on the range and they ask how many on the course thanks for the comments hitmanhawky

  • One quick question shud the left heel pad be on top of the shaft or not??? thx

  • This man is 100% correct! Ive been playing golf for years and have always known i had a release problem. If you listen and watch what he says and 'do it'! you will hit shots that you wouldnt believe. Like I did tonight at the range. You here a lot about slowing the hands down, and this is EXACTLY what this does. It helps you to stay down through the shot and the closer you keep the right arm to your side coming down, the straighter they go. The grip is key, he's 100% platinum plated correct!

  • great lesson,if you dont know what releasing the club means, watch this several times.. your divots will look like the pros divot. dont be a flipper,,,,let it release.... this might be what Hogan was talking about being in the dirt,,, thanks for this secret

  • now I would like this video only thing is Im get kind mad cuz ppl can play golf lol not me lolol but I GIVE IT 5stars! :) keep it up...Psalm 23 :)

  • nice!
