  • Thumbs up to every post here! God I love these guys.

  • This is actually a song from the 20's, innit?

  • @FlyingJunk No it is a Stackridge original tune - what a fabulous lot they are.

  • The dogs!!!

  • Sadly this seems to be the only footage of Stackridge in the 70,s available. They had their own 6 part half hour TV show on BBC West but it has been wiped. Also nobody has found any film of their appearances @ all the festivals they did in the 70,s including Reading ( Twice ) & of course the first Glastonbury in 1970. Loads of videos on You Tube of the band since they reformed in 2007 though.

  • Doesnt anybody have more 70's Stackridge footage??

  • Haven't heard that in ages. What a nice tune.

  • @Kilchattan7 Shall we dance? xx

  • the korgis!!!!!

  • Is that Dave Brock on Guitar? Cosmic.

  • @cheekymonkey1979 No, it's Andy Davis.

  • @sthugh Yes, I was just having a little joke. Nicely corrected though (could have really confused a Hawkwind fan)

  • @cheekymonkey1979 Oh, see what you mean. Sorry.

  • This is the Very performance that brought my attention to Stackridge in '75 ! I began collecting their L.P.s & 7" vinyl. I never saw them live until Trowbridge FolkFest '99. I have Never been dissapointed with any of their albums, from "STACKRIDGE" to "VICTORY", & including all the Korgis/solo material too !

  • Thankx, just love this band, pity they never made it big, they are a sort of laid-back version of the Bonzo Dog Do dah band - love em both

  • @utz14 No they're really NOT like the Bonzo's - just this one song which is nothing like any of their others!

I can't think of another band whose songs are so varied. To hear a good selection, go to mixcloud.com & search for Stackmix.

  • this is a joke right?

  • @varsume Oh no this is deadly serious honest, de profundis, bawbag.

  • @Kenentigern7 English your second language? You almost formed an intelligent thought, keep up the lessons.

  • @varsume Absolutyely not - Stackridge

  • La verdad es que al principio no me entusiasmó, aunque tampoco me desagradó, pero mientras iba escuchandola fué enganchandome y la escuché como 10 veces seguidas sin darme cuenta jajaja y ahora me encanta !!!!

  • Aaah! Stackridge! The 70s! Flares! Daft hair! Qurky English musicians making quirky English music! Those were the days... AND GUESS WHAT? Stackridge are very much alive and kicking. Great new album ('A Victory For Common Sense') and single ('North St. Grande'). Are they playing near you? If so - do yourself a favour - and go. They're still wonderful!

  • It's great to find this on YT. The first time I saw Mutter and the crew was on OGWT performing 'Do the Stanley', if only the Beeb would release that clip!!!

Then saw them live at Nottingham Uni - just great and pleased to hear that they're still performing. Great posting, thanks.

  • @xyzkerry I remember going to the Portland Building so many time to see them. Everytime I listen to Stackridge I feel so HAPPY

  • Hi Marxy, the track that you are quoting the lyrics from is "Dangerous Bacon", from the Stackridge 1974 album "The Man in the Bowler Hat". Sung brilliantly by James Warren. G.T.

  • "Has your sister ever twisted to the holocaust" - did I just imagine that line back in the 70s, or can someone tell me what song it's from, please? "Would you believe me if I took you there now/we are there anyhow/brother ..."

  • See the Stackridge podcast for an interview with Mutter and Andy on this wonderful video

  • What memories - that awful shaky staircase on Old Grey Whistle Test could well have been a killer in those Health and Safetyless days - and oh for those evenings in Leicester and Nottiingham spent in the company of my favourite musicians, Stackridge .........oh for a time machine!!

  • Great stuff. I saw them at the Winning Post, Staines, W.London a few decades ago, doing songs from the Man in the Bowler Hat, even God Speed the Plough, timpani and all

  • I forget how many times I saw them at the Winning Post. Also saw them at St Albans, and Watford (I think). Saw them earlier this year - still great!

  • exelente con todo el glamour una joyita

  • Nice video, i had this on a Mutter Slater solo single from 76, much shorter version i think. This version was cooler though

  • I've just been to see Stackridge at Derby's Flowerpot pub (good beer!), and they were excellent. This reincarnation is very good in its own right. Great musicianship all round, good tunes, & a nice sense of humour. Recommended!

  • I'm Japanese.

but , Stackridge is my favorite band!!

I hope to go to England to see Stackridge's Live....

  • @void140: I'm from the USA and hope to see you there some day.

  • Saw Stackridge in 1974 @ Barnsley civic hall.Seen all the 'big band's'since,but these guy's were fantastic !!!! A totally fun night !! The Extravaganza album,is a classic,a true classic !!!

  • seen them twice recently at the boom boom club in sutton AS GOOD as the late 70s/early 80s....if you get a chance to see them live again...GO!

  • Did "purple spaceships used to land on Yatton bowling green"? Never saw one, but hey, maybe I'm not sensitive that way!

  • I never thought I would ever see this again! How amazing to find it here, and how young they all look, this was such a big favourite of mine back in the 70s/80's. What a gorgeous voice Mr Slater was blessed with ....... come back Mutter, come back Stackridge, Sue x

  • Someone must have a vid of Paul Karas singing Earthworm

  • ....so many Stackridge classics, seems a shame we have so few (occasionally none?!) on the Tube.

  • I'd give my left nut if somebody could upload "Do The Stanley" (postage paid, of course...)

  • An almost perfect little gem. Mutter's voice wanders an little bit: nomatter.

    Love it!

  • Really need Paul Karas singing Earthworm

  • What a great selection of postings! I'd forgotten all about this quirky little gem. Keep then coming.

  • Thanks a lot, that's great - never seen Stackridge live and had no chances, 'coz I'm in Russia.

Is there any other videos shot in OGWT times?

    Cheers!

  • Great. Seen Mutter in his Little Dixie manifestation in last 2 years. Will try and catch em on this tour, especially as they are playing my village.

  • I'll have me cuppa As I fall asleep.

  • I remember this the first time around-looking forward to seeing ol' Mutter and crew on 22nd in Worcester Huntingdon Hall-ant other Thrashers gonna be there?

    Phil-Malvern

  • Wonderful - Percy the Penguin and I used to be bosom pals

  • It took me thirty years to find this. Utter rapture.

  • This is gorgeous, I love Stackridge and I werent even born then, wish I could find more old stackridge videos!

  • love to see a video of the Steam Radio Song

  • me too

  • Brilliant! Makes me wanna thrash my rhubarb and sing "Do the Stanley" pure magic

  • Extravganza was my favourite too - being a gardener I love 'There's no-one more important than the Earthworm' hee hee

  • Incredible! Extravaganza has been my favourite album for 30 years, but it's the first time I see them play. One of the best bands ever! Where is this song from? Whoever posted this will be admitted to heaven anytime, just mention my name to St. Peter.

  • Thanks to whoever posted this clip. I was in the BBC Bristol studio at the time and was the only memeber of the 'audience'. Dad used to work for the beeb and asked if I wanted to come along! Great memories - will have to dust off 'Man in a Bowler Hat' - my favourite

  • Who's Michael Brown ?

  • Early 70's around the release of 'Friendliness', Stackridge were 'my' band, musta seen 'em live 20 times, always wonderful.... this is a great clip

  • Stackridge's "Extravaganza" was my favorite album, but all were great . . .

  • Well done for posting and thankyou!!! A musical gem.

  • I hope this will be just the start of the flood of Stackridge material that gotabe out there... Brilliant for posting this! well done thecatkeaton never saw this before... only ever saw them live once back in the early 70's Warren James, Mutter et al and a bloke wrapped head to toe in bandages bashing two dustbin lids together you had to be there!
