@Airbeam no problem are you talking about the button you can see? if so then it changes the gear box from low to high range and back again. there is a button you can't see which gives each gear a half gear again. thus giving you 18 speeds.hope this helps.
@rigjockey423 18 spd is my favourite of them all,I have driven at some piont pretty much all of them, from a 6 spd in a 6 wheel drive Autocar on up,including a 18 autoshift. There is a company near me that actually takes 18's out of new trucks and replaces them with 8LL's,and they haul trains, weird if you ask me
@chuck738 yup you still get them as far as wanting it i guess it would depend on what you are doing with it off highway fore sure heavy haul i mean the 18 is good and has a lot of good points but there are time when deep reduction is the way to go.
@rigjockey423 trying to decide what truck to get for my custom critical route. defenatly whant at leaas 650 hp and 18 or more speeds. starting in two years saving my money now.
I am so surprised that the 15 speed is not available on you tube.Does it mean that it is not a good transmission system or that it is difficult to drive compared to the others.
For different times on YouTube ,I have seen people posting different types of transmission shifting ranging from 9 to 18 speeds but it is not the same with the 15 speed transmission. One I hope somebody will be able to post a comprehensive video for the 15 speed and two will be able to explain it with caption.
@ABIBODGLOBAL The 15 speed is designed for trucks which also see off-highway usage. It is basically a 10 speed with 5 extra gears sort of half below low range. These 5 "deep reduction" gears as they are called are there to get the truck moving in heavy terrain.
@ABIBODGLOBAL you are right but i belive the reason you see 13 and 18 speeds so much is that they are the mianstay of highway trucks these days. you still spec a rig with a 15 speed but roadranger does not offer high enough torque ratings to match the new high power engines. these will someday be replaced by something newer and better i mean back in 50's every rig outhere just was a 2 stick. be it a 5 and 3 or a 5 and 4. they are always changing, cheers
i know the 379 peterbilt i drive is a 21 speed

I don´t know a thing about truck transmission, so, noob question, is that switch to change between ratios or something?

@chuck738 you would think they would just order them the way they want?
rigjockey423 2 months ago
@rigjockey423 You would think, but I don't know if you can still get an 8LL,or why you would want to in a tractor
