The person I wouldn't really look at here. Even if it is a can. It's how celebration works. For instance, beating the lowest ranked NFL team in the playoffs and cheering for 30+ sec could bring about ur "overcelebration" argument.

It's not that i'm hating on Roger or anything, one of my favorite BJJ videos is the first one that shows up when you search "Roger Gracie highlight". I train bjj as well ;)

Please take yourself down to the nearest BJJ facality and enroll in some classes. The ref saved Ron from 4 mths of rehab.
@pchancey007 bad ass strikers and gnp'ers fedor's grappling is impecable he hasnt trained his subs in 3 years and it took the best bjj black belt in mma (werdum) 3 tries to hit his signature move that he can hit on anyone. just so you know fedor trys to be a badass striker and gnp'er so he puts on a good show for the crowds and doesnt just wrassle box or lay an prey. he also has some amazing subs on randleman and coleman to name a couple

Maybe Waterman hoped to play on that and knock him silly. But he'd need to keep his limbs on board better for that. MMA rules favour groundfighters, and thus submissions are an instant victory. That makes it a risky strategy.

Strikeforce is doing things the right way [meaning the opposite of EliteXC], and this is a good move. I also like the fact that Strikeforce does not force competitors to fight exclusively for them. I say this because Roger was supposed to and needs to tangle with Hidehiko over at WVR. Still waiting for that to jump off.

Well obviously, but document fights against top level talent in mma he has nothing. Your not the best if you don't prove it. To say rickson is one, if not the best grappler to ever lived that would be fairly accurate. No one who ever has grappled with him would argue, he's proved that. To say he's the best mma fighter ever, based on what? He's the same guy who said he fought in countless matchs of all kinds, including sambo yet he didn't know the standard sambo rules against ron tripp supposedly

there werent many people around back then with the ability to compete with rickson. there were only nobodies. rickson set the standard for what an mma fighter should be capable of.

I wouldn't really say he set the standard of what an mma fighter should be capable. In grappling he did, and was great in his time but there is a lot more to mma than submission grappling. Part of the reason bjj did so well is bc most hadn't seen it/didn't know what it was. As much as i'm not a fedor or bj fan i'd say they have showed what an mma fighter should be. They can hang wherever the fight goes against any type of fighter. Grappling specialists with good tdd, boxing, chin, and gameplan.

I agree 100%... fuck the people who "thumbs downed" this comment. Many of the... ELEVEN mma fighters Rickson beat are garbage. He twice fought a guy whose record is 2-6, as well as a guy whose record is 13-23. In the remaining 8 fights, they're basically nobodies other than funaki and nakai, am i wrong? Not very impressive. Yea he's a great fighter, but don't throw around nonsense about 400 wins.

Strikeforce is doing things the right way [meaning the opposite of EliteXC], and this is a good move. I also like the fact that Strikeforce does not force competitors to fight exclusively for them. I say this because Roger was supposed to and needs to tangle with Hidehiko over at WVR. Still waiting for that to jump off.

But the fact of the matter is, he was a grizzly old vet taking on an MMA newcomer. Regardless of what your last name is... There is a lot of pressure and so many things to go wrong. It's the reason Lesnar lost to Mir first time around, the people setting up his fights thought nothing of pacing, giving him experience. @theakshay well Waterman is a veteran of the sport, is a wrestling coach, and was one of the top wrestler in USA, and what wrestlers do? take people down and control his opponents on the ground with punches, locks and whatever, besides Ron is not a good striker at all.

Waterman's game probably revolves around his wrestling skill as he is no great striker. So he just played his game. If he tried to strike, Gracie might have been able to manage a takedown anyhow, and Waterman knew that. That's my version of what happened.

Guys, Not only is Roger the best Gracie out there right now, he wins every Mundial and Pan Am competition he enters. He is sick with skills. He has beaten all my favorite fighters in every grappling tournament he has entered. I do not want him to win against my favorites, he is just crazy talented.
