  • RIP Blackbird!!

  • REMARKS: nothing follows.

  • @edabiladik it's true it also had to take off with as little fuel as possible cuz on the ground THE fueling tanks leeked what you see @2:04 it has to refuel in air it happened every time it took off

  • cool

  • THE BEST AIRPLANE EVER CREATED!

  • 0:25 If you look under the jet, you can see one of the reasons we don't use the Blackbird anymore. It leaked when it was on the ground.

  • @edaboladik

that was a part of the design, because the body of the airplane would shrink when it reached high altitudes with freezing temperatures

  • @npc92

It would actually expand, because the metal got so hot from going so fast. At least, that's what I was told by my ROTC instructors.

  • was lucky enough to see these monsters when stationed at Kadena, AB, Japan. Nothing like the sound of one of these birds as it tears through the air!!

  • what year? 0:00

  • You always get number 1 for this !

  • This thing had to be expensive to fly.

  • I'm pretty sure I can own one of these when I kill 8 people... Or am I wrong?

  • @CatCuber grow up, life isnt a video game

  • @dimesach Looks like someone doesn't have a very good sense of humor.

  • @CatCuber this was one of the greatest jets to ever fly, show it some respect.

  • @dimesach I completely acknowledge the fact that it's an amazing plane. In fact, I had to do a little project about them so I decided to look at some of these videos. I did "thumb's up" this video by the way, and I don't follow the idea of "life being a video game" anyway. If you didn't like my comment in the first place, just thumbs it down. No need for insults here.

  • Great song...great plane...

  • I heard a tale of a B-52 pilot requesting that ground control confirm his airspeed on radar.

Shortly after, a Cessna pilot did the same followed by a couple of F-4 Phantom's.

Then an SR-71 requested a speed reading, the ground controller hesitated then confirmed "Mach 3".

The radio then went silent....................no-one else requested anymore speed readings!

    LOL

  • SR-71 one of my all time favourite aircrafts. Sadly no longing flying any more.

Very appropriate song. A metaphore for once what was.

  • oh, wow. this is just too cool. me gusta.

  • If anyone has a doubt that the USA is not the greatest country on the planet, all they have to do is watch a video of the SR-71, or B2-Spirit, or, FA-22 Raptor and realize that we are the leaders of the world.

Al Quaeda can sit around and plot all the crap they want, but we can and will show our force when we need to. Ask Bin Laden.

We put the fear of god into the world when we bombed Nagasaki and Hiroshima, and we gotta hole other can of whoop ass waiting for the next challenger.

  • @marvinshenk Well, with Chinese population rising to 1.4 billion people and with a rising economy...i think the US met there match...Glad I live in Canada :)

  • The SR-71 is watching you Pee....... From 100,000ft. In the air

  • i never knew i could get a boner from anything but porn...

  • SR - 71 ONLINE

  • what a beautiful plane

  • very beautiful i like it

  • how do they use them gas planes 2 fuel up other planes so easy do they put it on auto pilot whne they get it set up right?thts wht i was thinking

  • @MrBamaboy504 its all hand controls. the air tanker watches the fuel line from a small window in the rear of the plane and the refueling plane is being flown by the pilot.

  • @808crazyshit oh cool

  • Chuck Norris got some competition

  • Very nicely done.

  • That is not a st 71 but The A12 the old version it's a little slower

  • wtf is this porn music!? way to ruin a video!

  • @everythingman987 The song is gay everythingman. This is the SR71 Blackbird. The baddest plane ever made in the entire history of the world. Something we can sit a human being down inside and fly it faster then a 30-06 bullet. A plane that causes traffic jams at the end of the runways everytime it takes off. A plane that had people standing on the hoods of their cars waving the American flag as they watch it taking off. The loudest plane I've ever heard. This song is for a Cessna.

  • I remember seeing the SR-71 (Habu) land in Okinawa in 1970/71. It would come in on Sunday afternoon and as soon as it landed it taxied into an underground hanger. Pretty awesome sight!!

  • what is the point of the sr-71. I just wanna know what it's millitary role was

  • @wincopter take pics of other places while going extremely fast :3 basically a super spy plane :D~if thats not true please do correct me.

  • @hellagunner1 You could also fly it over anyplace in the world that wasn't acting right extremely fast and very low and bet your ass on it that that country will start acting right.

  • No one ever listens to lyrics anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!! shutup with the gay song comments!!!!! Ive been on this video for not even 1 minute and already are frustrated with you peoples stupidity!

  • Recognize the pass over NASA-Dryden and Edwards. Cool Vid. Appropriate music. From an ex-aerospace geek and eternal wanna be pilot, thanks, uiooppd. Nice.

  • Dont read that crap from the total GOOFS who dont know what the SR-71 is designed for. Great video! Of course some idiot will "wikipedia" the SR-71 and claim they are some sort of expert.

  • No the SR-71 was not a fighter, But it's sister plane the YF-12A was indeed a fighter version of the SR-71 Blackbird, but it was not very pratical as a fighter due to it out flying it's bullet's it shot from it's gun's!! It outran it's own gunfire THAT is awesome! But that's not the only thing that grounded the YF-12A i'm sure. But kinda useless when your at threat from your own bullet's! Crazy man just crazy!! RIP Blackbird!!

  • Considering this was a high altitude recon plane I think this song is just perfect and anyone who say's different is clearly... hmm how should I put this? ah hell nevermind you people r not worth my effort to flame!! If you dont like it then don't watch it plain and

simple! Man the Blackbird is the most awesome plane that ever flew! RIP Blackbird!!

  • ignore the faggots hating the song, i wouldn't put any heavy metal to this vid either.

  • I wonder if it would go even faster with a side by side cockpit down it the bottom or if maybe the bubble had an effect on the air feeding into the engines.or maybe they store the fuel behind them.

  • 4:18pm Tuesday (CDT)

  • did you see the part in the Transformers 2 movie with this plane?

  • beautiful

  • very gay song

  • Thanks for posting this song with this great footage. Best plane ever!!! I love the footage of the Q model KC 135. I concur that there seems to be a clip of an A-12.

  • INTELIGENT SARCASM...Thanks.

  • aye, she was a beauty.

  • Great video. The music is pitch perfect, BTW, and together they are pure nostalgia. The flyby at 2:37 is just golden.

I miss the Cold War. I surely do.

  • Brief YF-12A sighting at @ 0:19 - 0:20. See those ventral fins and that cockpit?

  • Good images of the SR-71 shame about the music I have to mute it, its not SR-71 approved! However the SR-71 Blackbird is approved video viewing!

  • JETFIRE!!!

  • Beautiful aircraft..

  • vnck25..niggas?

  • Why cant they fly like the rest?

  • the orange hotti kelly johson

  • It rules

  • Gorgeous plane. Beautiful video! Thank You.

  • Thank you uioppb for putting together this excellent VID............

  • At 0:58 the Linear Aerospike being tested for the x-33 lifting body to study the aero flow of the engine plume..the X-33 was cancelled ..but the data helped to develop the X-43 scramjet....THX

  • Some of the BESTEST clips ever, first time i saw video of the 2 man trainer., all good. The undercarriage leaking fuel, head on video WOW

  • great tribute, good choice of song to go with it too! Gotta love Alan Parsons!! But seriously, those who diss the song arent listening to the lyrics which are quite fitting for the aircraft!

  • Apparently you didn't listen to the song and the lyrics.

  • @uioppb this song is more so about the illuminati and about big brother

  • @uioppb lol, yah the song says 'i am the eye in the sky, looking at you...' but the rest makes absolutley no sense in the given context. unforunatley the plane cannot enhance the craniums electromagnetic waves to an extent that would make one sided telepathy possible, hence the latter part of the chorus, 'i can read your mind' makes no sense whatsoever. if you feel the desire to use old and gay music, might i suggest rockwell- somebody's watching me. xD

  • hard rock would be great with a fighter/bomber, but the SR-71 was a surveillance plane and therefore this song "Eye in the Sky" fits 100% perfectly

  • "I am the eye in the sky, looking at you... I can read your mind" seems pretty damn appropriate to me.

Awesome song to boot as well.

  • @slammeddown um did you know ? ......YOUR GAY !

  • Comment removed

  • @slammeddown F**K you!!!!

, sorry, i just can't curse, but still, this is a LEGENDARY song

  • @slammeddown get lost with ur satan shit..

  • sweeet. What beautiful eyes ..

  • i like the song =)

  • This isn't gay. What would you suggest? Heavy metal? The SR-71 was NOT a fighter aircraft. That type of music would not be fitting. This song goes perfectly with this aircraft.

  • What was that air craft's purpose?

  • @ekatbat I just saw this video. The SR-71 was designed in the late 1950's as a high speed interceptor and Spy/Reconesence (spelling?). It saw service first as an YB-A12 but was lengthened and changed to SR-71 Blackbird. Officially it served from 1966 through 1990 but 4 flew until 1999. Its speed was estimated at Mach 4 plus. It holds the record for the fastest land based plane ever built and the only military plane to never have been downed by enemy fire with over 1,100 attempts by the USSR.

  • @BASavage81

    There never was a "YB-A12"

The A-12 and the SR-71 are the only types to see actual deployment in their intended roles. The M-21, the YF-12 never entered full service.

No one quotes Mach 4 plus for any of these vehicles. The fastest I've ever see was 3.5 in a dash and that may be excessive. Mach 3.2 to 3.3 is probably about right. [The A-12 may have been the fastest of the family.]

I am interested in any source for "1,100" shoot-down attempts, as distinguished from intercepts.

  • @uioppb This song is perfect for this aircraft. However it was originally designed to be a fighter. During testing Skunkworks and the USAF realized that it would fly so fast that it didn't need armament. I talked to one Blackbird pilot and he said if they realized there was any AAA, SAM's or other interceptors they'd just speed up.

  • @BASavage81

The Blackbird was intended as a reconnaissance vehicle for the CIA, ab initio, as a replacement for the, by then, vulnerable U-2. It was intended to avoid interception by altitude, speed, and stealth. The interceptor variant (YF-12A) was merely an Air Force fill-in for the dead F-108 program, and a failed one at that.

  • @jeselmira2 ..While flying with NASA, the YF-12 probably did more for the scholarship of science then any other A/c to date......

  • @uioppb The SR-71 was based off the YF-12, which WAS a fighter. :-p

  • The Blackbird was a Reconnaissance aircraft so the music fits perfect.

  • @uioppb yeah you're right the song fits, and the SR-71 is spy plane flying high in the sky without being detected.

  • pjholl..You are right on the A-12B{trainer} could only manage Mach#2..but thats not bad considering the A/C had the J-75 engines for powerplants..Thanks

  • Excelent, its a great work, i hope to watch more of this fantastic kind of videos, of the legendary SR-71.

  • The SR-71 also holds the record for flying from New York to London in 1 hour 54 minutes and 56.4 seconds, set on 1 September 1974.

  • Yah its the fastest jet EVER!

  • Very fitting this vid started with LOUIS Schalk setting in his cockpit {WHICH HE DESIGNED} FOR THE A-12 AF-12 AND OF COURSE THE SR-71..the Premier Roadrunner with the Blackbird Laurels Fraternity..Chief Test Pilot for the Shunk Works..F-104 test pilot...Lou left this planet in 2002...Have a good flight Lou..ONE OF THE BEST....

  • this is an amazing video. i always loved the sr-71b. and i love the song!

  • the b was a great aircraft but the raised rear flight deck had enormous aerodynamical issues. I read that the sr-71b could not even reach M2.2

  • pjholl..the SR-71B-airframe#956, was were Habus got their first taste of Mach3 flight..what good is a trainer for Mach3 A/C if the trainer can't reach high Mach??? all Mach#3 flights for dignitaries ..Senators etc were given in A/C 956...105 VIP flights were given ...however no enlisted airmen has ever flown in the Habu.._-<-

  • After watching "Sr-71 Blackbird Documentary Part 5

" it turns out it ws the A-12 trainer which was not even capable of M 2.0

  • my favourite airplane and song what else?

  • what kind of music is this? I like it.

  • The name of the song is Eye In the Sky.

  • by the alan parsons project

  • eye in the sky by the alan parsons project...

    I like them.

  • @sbb03360 real music.......listen......

  • i know the max hight......85,000 ft i saw it in duxford airfeild museum

  • they have not found the top speed of this air craft have they ? and it out of service =[

  • nice vid!
