There was too much theatrics this reminds me of when ousted president Marcos invented a fake indigenous population to impress the tourists. Seriously? A f*ck*ng cape? I'm Filipino and the only time I've seen anyone wear a cape is at a mental hospital or on 6 year old kids running around. And chicken blood? We eat that not drip it on us to get tough. Now i'm not undermining the martial arts shown I just know the theatrics here are overblown.
@MelDimacali Couldn't agree more, way to many theatrics by the Sgt. guy it's almost like joining a cult. Crawling in the mud, catching pigs and lizards? Looks more like survival training than Kali. I also didn't see anyone teach the guy basic Kali.
At 4:17, you notice the referee calling out "Ang puntos ay parehas!" It literally translates to, "The points are the same!" And yet Sgt. Prado won? Strange... The fight should have been a draw.
@INexasI looks a lot like sabre footwork to me, but then again this stick system derives from the days when filipinos had their swords taken away from them by the Spanish....so sword to stick with similar footwork.
@INexasI there are only so many ways fighting stances can be made, if you look at more and more martial arts you'll see that there are very little differences in how they fight.
The fencing style of footwork is used in karate as well just like kali
Too much flailing in the stick matches! For dueling I have I high regard for Serrada Eskrima! Much superior for a duel, and has been proven to be so! I seen absolutely 0 technique in the stick fighting!
@druizsr Hmm... I guess people turned out to be much more tactical today than they were before. I mean, people no longer do warfare with primitive weaponry, but in the days that many people know a thing or two about martial arts there will always be a great room for improvement. I personally think the style we saw on the video is an ancient form: I rarely see some of the blades used in the video except for the balisong
this cant be true.sorry but you dont know eastern people well.there is not usa, they havent got stupid egos.they are very respectfull even to their enemies if the enemy is really brave and tough.they were so kind to jimmy and doug, cause these guys r really good, brave and tough fighters and fought very well.they show the power of kali to the world!
@bilgekagan77 I think it is ignorant of you to believe that everyone in the east is like that. That may be true in a general sense, but not every person or fighter is like that. No country in the world can honestly say that all of their people are respectful.
Great episode...I heard that Jimmy had to be escorted by cops out of Tondo because one of the cops overheard one of the locals say they wanted to kill him.
@ANZACJugger0 I heard it from a colleague of mine who read an article who saw it on one of the behind the scenes episodes of the show. From what I've been told, one of the locals said, "that American thinks he's tough, I'll kill him."
/watch?v=e5BTt-Lt1vM The death threat is actually true. Here Jimmy describes the whole scenario that took place...
