They are both late-90s and early 2000s "punk-revival" bands, so naturally they have a similar sound. They also toured with similar bands (Goldfinger, Less Than Jake). I'm pretty sure the band members in Mest were not Zebrahead wannabes: they were just both typical of this type of band at that time... except Mest didn't suck.
