Simple, cheap way I do this is to use old CDs or DVDs as the base. It can be cut to any shape if you like, but I think round looks and supports good.
I glue a washer over the centre hole above and below the disc, for support, then use a thick lengh of sprue or wooden 'barbecue' skewer as the supporting pole to a hole drilled into a suitable area of the aircraft belly. This in 1/72 scale - larger would need more support, but a cd cakebox base would do the job on 1/48's or 3 or 4 DVDs stacked
i found these cool steel rods, that extend, then you tighten it so it runs across the room, and then you hang the planes on fishing line around the wingtips,
and i also put my landing gear on inthe up position, but i use flat extra pieces of plastic or such if the piece dosent fill the gap and its supposed to, or i sand off the other side of the wheel so its thin enough to fit in with it closed
Question on the copper tubing:You put a bigger size tubing in the fuselage of the model ? And the tubing that connects to the stand fits in the tubing in the model ?
Do you know that skeleton that the parts of teh models come in? well I cut the length i need and I cut off the excess parts and sand it down then I paint it the colour I wish. lol I also make tent skeletons and put some paper over the skeleton for dioramas, ive made towers out of my skeletons. ive made alot of things using the skeletons : )

Do you have 3-4 cameras running at once and then add the parts where you are looking forwards, to your final video? Looks very slick. :)
