There was a news item in the 9/28/50 edition of the Renwick Times regarding details about the game. Also, another item followed telling what the band played etc. Think that was the only time I've ever seen an article describing the band's halftime performance in any of the old copies of the Renwick Times.
People watching this clip, may also know more about 2 clips I still need to post. I think one is in July 1950, a trip by some Renwick Boy Scouts, with Bob McGowan, to the National Jamboree in Valley Forge. PA. The other Boy Scout trip is to Philmont, that may have been in the '44-46 range. So if you know about those trips, check back and watch them in a couple days and post comments.
I went back to the original VCR tape, and this clip was the last one. Since it is short, I assume it was part of the same film as from the previous clip on the tape. That was a Neice's wedding on Sept 3, 1950. So I agree the earlier date seems more likely. I have taken this order on VCR tape into account in dating some other clips, but I'll have to check to see if it will help on otherse.
Darvin Stover was head coach in the fall of 1951 so this was probably the fall of 1950 (school year 50-51). I see from the schedule their first home game was versus Ventura and I know their school colors included gold. With the apparent warm weather in evidence, it was probably September versus October in Iowa. This most likely would have been September 22, 1950..
Here's a response from a 1953 Renwick graduate - Erling (Chuck) Nerem of Thor, Iowa....
That had to be 1951--fall. Bob Van Houten was the coach and I saw Stub Opheim the asst coach. I see Bob Hoffman, Dale Kraft, Phil Oppedahl, Jerry Gorrell, Jim Yungclas, Marg Long, Carolyn Kurfman, Bob Janes, and I think Marilyn Sadler. I'm also sitting on the bench. Was Donna Wergeland one of the majorettes?
Does anyone recognize the opponent? Was gold helmets Goldfield? Did the yearbook show the football schedule? I agree it is Bob Van Houten. He matches a picture from 1950. His wife was a second cousin to all the Block, Long and Peer children. Jeanette is in the 1939 VEISHEA clip. Also Marge's face does match a 50/51 photo. Did Bob coach the team in the fall of 51?

Again, I thank you for posting these videos.

I think this might have been a few years earlier. It looks like Bob Van Houten was the coach and he was at Renwick from 1949-1951.
I remember Marge also so I can see where you would place it around 1954.
I also saw Dale Kraft and Phil Oppedahl on the bench and they look very young and small. They graduated in 1953.
Since Marge graduated in 1955, it would make her even younger. Perhaps they used JH students in the band in those days for the sake of numbers.
These videos are priceless.
