  • damn no brush to clean up and I so wanted to build this stove...

  • Will be using these tips when I'm hiding out from the economic collapse and global wars in the coming years. Thanks!

  • my advice retire the yellow tin snips most people like red .Straight cutting snips ( yellow ) cut in a straight line and wide curves; left cutting snips ( red) will cut straight and in a tight curve to the left; right cutting snips ( green) will cut straight and in a tight curve to the right. get the one that says wiss on them and when cutting never cut all the way to the end of blades ..it will make for fine edge and when cutting a circle make the hole in the center

  • @kisinzcemm :: i agree. have been using the red handled snips for years now. have learned a lot since recording this video :)

  • Where's your gloves?

  • If you use vermiculite instead of ash it will make your stove alot lighter.

  • Instead of a pencil you should use a sharpy or a bar of soap stone on the metal, you can find it at most hardware stores and welding shops. As for making the holes bigger you should use the file for that because you can keep filing, but you can't put it back. Just a little advice to make things easier in the future. :)

  • wife...wtf, theres hope for me yet then! Thanks

  • Built mine today, using a round 5 gal can from a hardware/farm supply store. Seemed to build about the same. Hard to improve on this design but I added a handle from a 5-gallon plastic bucket so its easier to carry around. I also didnt have any ashes (I live in the suburbs) so I used 25 lbs of kitty litter, which also seemed to work OK. For lighting, I had trouble until I removed the platform and stuffed 1 sheet of newspaper in the elbow, and put sticks down the top of the chimney.

  • Great video, thanks a lot!!! :)

  • why the heck chick like you need a rocket stove? Don't you think it's better to stay at your home kitching?

  • wouldn't it be easier ,just to use a hole cutter ,instead of farting about ,with a carpenter's hammer ,guess you didnt do metal work at school :)

  • nice use of the gloves. they were really useful

  • thath is not stove pipe thaths is galvinise the fumes of galvinise can kill you do not use any galvinise use black pipe for chimney

  • @ceramicclassstudio agreed the vapor that will be released from the galvanized metal will kill u.i mean it would be ok if it was just releasing the smoke.but to use it as part of the stove that will get hot is a no no.BEWARE GALVANIZED METAL WHEN HEATED WILL KILL U.

  • @vincentvangro No it wont.

  • @BeepBeepBoing to each there own...

  • @vincentvangro I used to work in a zinc plant pal.... the vapour will NOT kill you, it may make you feel slightly unwell, like the flu, but it will NOT kill you. Stove pipes would not be allowed to be coated in zinc if they killed people would they ! The rocket stove is designed to be used outdoors, any vapour released will free vent into the atmosphere and you probably wouldnt notice it. Personally having seen these home made stoves I would be more concerned by the cadmium or chromium coatings.

  • @BeepBeepBoing The fumes and dust irritate the skin, eyes, lungs, mucous membranes and, if large quantities are inhaled in a short period of time, can be fatal, OSHA says.l guess i should have been abit more clear CAN KILL U IF YOU INHALE TO MUCH.to say it will NOT kill u is something onnly a foolish person would say.too much of anything can kill u.looks like someone has had the fever 1 too many times...

  • @vincentvangro Thank god for google eh.. you almost sound intelligent.

  • @BeepBeepBoing no need to stop being a lady.i have done plenty of work with many diffrent metals.blacksmithing too.i know it may be really hard to believe smartass but there are others in this world that have been around the block a time or 2.not all of us are entry lvl in a zinc plant and had the chance to hear the big boys talk around the water cooler.looks like u need to do alil more reading up yourself so u don't look like a dumbass..

  • @vincentvangro ahhh didnt take you long to resort to name calling eh.... so you have worked with metals..... then you should know that the galvanisation process is know as "hot dip" in zinc, This gives a weather proof coating, if you heat the material up again... you free agent the zinc as zinc oxide, this often occurs during a welding process, in a confined space, not nice to breath in, wont kill you though. I repeat, these stoves are for outdoor use only. Have a nice day :)

  • @BeepBeepBoing also PAL a stove pipe should have insulation around it and it's for exhaust only so it does'nt get hot enough to release the zinc.in this case PAL u better be outside and away from it.because as u can see in the vid he uses the galvanized pipe it self as the holder of the main heat source.but call me crazy everyone at home uses the pipe itself and not the stove...humm hey mr zinc worker man,i think yoru on to something.you should build a whole stove out of galvanized metal...

  • This is the best video on making Rocket Stoves that I've seen so far. I've made about 20 Rocket Stoves over the past 3 years or so. I never could find a 5-gallon square can like the one in the video, so I build my Rocket Stove by joining two "#10 cans" together with "JB Weld" (NOT "JB Quik"). (I posted my full instructions at: speedreading4kids "DOT" com/rocket.htm ).

I saw your note about Galvanized pipe. I'll look into making future Rocket Stoves with black stovepipe. THANKS VAVREK!

  • don't use galvanized pipe. It gives off poison and wont last very long.

  • 4" is to small in according to the brain trust.

  • One suggestion..Did you ever wonder why there are 3 colors to choose from in Wiss style snips down at the hardware store??

Instead of the yellow cutters which are set to cut STRAIGHT try a green or red handled pair which are designed to cut either right or left curves. It will make the cutting of metal in a circle soooo much easier.

  • don't watch it in your headphones :D

  • I can't find the 5 gallon can?

  • is he gay?

  • i wonder how long these stoves last

  • great video man, but I hope you didn't kill anyone with zinc gas.

  • r u teh ghey?

  • this is awesome. what material is the pipe?

  • nice job...the pipe you are using is galvenized and throws off toxic fumes when it gets real hot and is thin to the point of melting...try for real heavy cast iron pipe. also use a sharpie and they make snips that are designed for cutting circles, it was amusing watching you work with metal as i am a tin knocker

but you pulled it off ! congrats!

  • @askaxis I was gonna say toxic but you beat me to it

  • @askaxis what if they are trying to kill people with homemade toxic stoves, they dont want you to know that

  • wear your gloves MR

  • I'm gonna try this :D..looks pretty easy and not too hard to make, we got all the tools and I bet we can get the materials..uses so little fuel soo I'm surprised.

    Well done!!

  • great job!

i use a sharpee instead of a pencil to mark my cuts on the tin.

When I punck the first hole to cut into the can I punch in the center of the hole to avoid screwing up the cut.

if you cut a hole smaller than the stove pipe you can cut tabs to secure the can to the stove pipe.

    Overall, Great Job!!!

  • Great video well explained A++

  • good tink that he tinks abowt safty first lol

  • great job editing

  • it is a lead oxide that is realised

  • Thanks for this video--it's making the rounds on a sustainability class I'm in. Very useful!

  • relearning tech from thousands of years ago to ensure our survival great job awesome and informative

  • @tannim420 haha I like pizza!

  • thats awsome man parts looks easy to get, simple tools, i will build one

  • Conglomerated stove canisters! Hammers involved too, well composed.
