Hyenas are awesome, and they make great pets! (That is if you want to get ferociously mauled and killed and they go rampaging until animal control has to step up and kill them) But they're still pretty cool

Um... actually their back legs are relatively weak (hence why they can't jump), its the front legs, shoulder, chest etc that gives them power, also they have GOOD eyesight, they regularly watch vultures circling in order to find an easy meal.

Hyenas don't deserve the stereotype given to them by "The Lion King". I DO NOT think hyenas are ugly. Who would dare call these beautiful animals ugly? A hyena is like a wolf, but in my eyes a wolf with a slightly more bohemian look. I'm an artist, hee hee, and I love the laugh of hyenas. "Skratt" is Svenska for "laughter".

@NinjaFox97 Hej, I DO love The Lion King. I'm really not THAT upset over how it shows hyenas, and I do love watching the hyena scenes. To me what's far worse is the anti-wolf myths and just because they are a part of timeless treasured folklore people insist on keeping them while at the same time teaching respect for and the truth about wolves. Hyenas don't have as much abusive folklore as wolves have, so I'd say the stereotypes of wolves are way worse than those of hyenas.

@NinjaFox97 I'm Jewish. Most Jews tend to question the Bible rather than take it literally, so whoever put that in about wolves we do not necessarily agree that he's right. I love watching The Lion King ESPECIALLY the hyena scenes. I watch that movie often and have Youtube vids just of the hyenas all the time. What offends me about TLK's depiction of hyenas is that they are shown as always silly, never serious. It hurts to see such a dignified and lovely creature depicted as a pure fool. ;,(

@MrAspiringactor No The Lion king in no way started it. It just continued the trend. Hyenas have sadly been hated since the time of ancient Greece. Aesop puts them down in a few of his fables, and the early Church called them one of the devil's animals. ;(

@MrAspiringactor I actually typed that comment a while back when I did not know the whole story behind the movie. I am actually not offended by The Lion King because I later found out that Disney released a few books at the time of the movie's release that told the reason why the hyenas were not allowed in the Pridelands. They say that hyenas ARE a part of the Circle of Life, but the graveyard pack killed for fun and were exiled for that reason. They didn't die off; they ran off after the film.

@MrAspiringactor They are a collection called The Lion King: Six New Adventures. The one that most describes the reason hyenas were not allowed in the Pridelands is called A Tale of Two Brothers. In it it says that hyenas were once allowed in the Pridelands but when Mufasa's dad was king the Pridelands' resident hyena pack was silly, selfish and killed for sport. Because they didn't eat what they killed, their punishment was to live off leftovers UNTIL they learned to eat what they kill.
