Right you arseholes, A true proffesional fells trees, a poncey climber does not. There is nothing dangerous about felling a tree. There are more accidents poncing about in a tree thinking you are the worlds best at everything than felling a tree. And yes i am a climber and have been for 15 years. I came from forestry and look to fell a tree before i think about climbing it.
A REAL TREE PROFESSIONAL WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE TIME TO CLIMB AND DO THINGS THE RIGHT WAY FROM THE BEGINNING. JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE A CHIPPER AND A CHIPPER TRUCK AND SOME CAIN SAWS THAT DON'T MAKE YOU UNPROFESSIONAL'S. THAT ONLY MAKES YOU GUYS DANGEROUS NOTHING ELSE. DON'T BE SO LAZY AND GET YOUR FAT ASSES UP IN THE TREES AND DO THE JOB RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING.
i dont know a single thing about cutting trees. but the way this was done looked stupid. no safety gear and cutting it all down at once? shouldnt a tree of that size and in an area like that be cut in pieces?
PLEASE DONT READ THIS!! you will die in seven days if you dont post this comment on 10 videos in the next hour.if you do, tommorow will be the best day of your life!!!
I get a kick out of reading about all the things you did wrong. Sometimes common sense just isn't recognized by the so called professionals that have to live by rules. Yes, sometimes stupid people do stupit things and don't even know it is stupid at the time but your fall looked PERFECT and all the bullshit they talk about wasn't needed. "What If " does not matter because "What IF" didn't happen. I do it like you do it, common sense with precautions taken to protect myself and property. Good job
i guess they`ve got you on the hard hat issue, health and safety at work act and all that, but i can`t see why people take issue with your choice to fell whole, no doubt you assessed the tree, realised that it would go over in one piece and land where you wanted it to and it did just that so what`s their problem..? lots of arm chair tree fellers out there
@ottotree "i can`t see why people take issue with your choice to fell whole"
I agree 100%! The notch & back cut were perfect. They had room. Why not? The sledge & wedge looked like too much work. I'd of used a rope, but they did fine.
@shkunk1 You couldn't have said it better. I spent 10 yrs climbing trees for Davey Tree and my god do boys EVER love to bitch about how every single other god damn tree guy is an unproffesional cowboy or what? Good call!
@sweeneysister Thanks for the show of support. I used to be an Asplundh guy myself; and yes, I love to bitch. However, I believe in giving credit where it's due. He did a good job. If he was on my crew I'd give 'em hell about not wearing a hard hat, but that's all.
Also, a number of people here have said that he took too big of a risk with that shot. We're in the business of calculated risks. Not NO risks....not INSANE risks... calculated risks. I'd of taken that shot.
was a nice cut,, wouldnt park my precious equipment anywhere near (guy was prob just an employee,,not the owner).. would def wear a hard hat,, other than that dude dropped that sucker just right..
why the fuck are most tree cutters (on youtube) complete know it alls? there is not a video on here without a bunch of wankers picking up on every minute mistake, the tree came down in the right spot didn't it? i bet if we all stood around any of you and watched you work we could pick shit all day long. good job anyway mate
I fell trees whole only when the risk of collateral damge is not a factor. If collateral damage is not an acceptable option every thing comes down in small easy to manage pieces. In tight working enviroments lightweight pieces are safer to work with then one giant mass of weight that is at risk of getting out of controll. Also any pro knows that a hard hat is to be worn at all times no matter what.
@highcountrytimber and why is that, so they can charge more money for just cutting one tree down? ha ha some guys have to go out and fall trees like this all day long in 1 piece to make a living and your think they are not pros, you sir sound like a tree trimmer! ha ha
lotta trees like that here in VT, simply cut the one fork and rope it, then the other fork and rope it, and then the stump.
if that was hollow or had a bad section it easily could have sat back and then busted apart right on the stump, that's common with old maples and syscamore here that's why you rope it, a capstan winch will easily tug that tree over, especially if you ahd done it in sections as I said.
For those who aren't aware, the tree could not fall right, regardless of whether or not the wedge was in. It could have 'sat back' on the 'backcut', but it would have stopped there, as the 'backcut' provides no room for the tree to continue falling, unlike the 'notch' on the left, which is open to allow the tree to fall once it starts in that direction. To those who think this guy is a hack, or unprofessional, go back and learn the basics of safe, proper, and effective felling practices
It's time for some people to go back to basics of tree felling. A proper hinge is the ONLY thing that determines felling direction. A tree falls exactly 90 degrees to the hinge in the direction of the notch. This tree would not have barbered, as the felling (or backcut) needs only be half an inch above the notch, and his was at least that. Ropes will not pull a tree in any direction other than that indicated by the hinge. The tree is felled against natural lean, necessitating the wedge. PERFECT!
hi the only safety gear i did not have on was my helmet and ear muffs this is cuz i like to hear when the tree starts cracking so gives me lots of time to steer the tree down. With regards to lines no rope would change the direction of an 8 ton tree by much as long as you look a the trees structure working out where the weight is, the lean and any defects within the trunk you can apply your cuts accordingly. leaving the hinge larger on the side with the least amount of weight. hope this helps
Fascinating footage! Thanks for sharing! I knew a tree surgeon once who opened a BRANCH office. He would go out on a LIMB for all his patients. Sadly, he eventually had to give up his practice....turns out he couldn't stand the sight of SAP !!!
This tree was not felled onto any grave stones or graves. We had a 6ft gap from the grave stones to the road edge and the canopy landed in an area which had not been used for graves so was open space otherwise the tree would of been taken down sectionally or by using a crane.
Respect the dead butt hole because you just might be next with all that safety of your.,I still can't believe you just dropped a tree on Dead peoples tomb.
lol did they fell it onto grave stones hahaha nice job that looked like a nice bit of lean in the direction not desired. would take a man to bash that wedge in! good job.

No the wedge that he hammered in on the right pushed it that way.
