  • wow!!! the British war ships are a lot more roomy compared to the US's new destroyers.

  • how many missiles will this carry below deck and in launchers

  • Britain. We shall always rules the waves..........In style.

  • Type 45 Destroyer are hellfire

  • The way I see it is.... it can hold 48 ASTER missiles (the best surface to air system in the world) but you could hold upto 1000 rounds of 12 inch ammunition so my tactic would be, make a large but stealthy ship with 4 twin 12 inch mounts and the usual close in weapons system and a few type 45's for defense and then...

    1) fire shells at the enemy (hopefully they won't know what are shells and what are missiles.

    2) is they fire back ASTER defends you,

3)Blow them up with 12 inch projectiles!!

  • In this video, does it show it in commission or is it still being constructed

  • A cenima in a warship??? I can imagine it "all hands on deck, we are under attack"

Reply. "um. Nah, were at the best part. Mabye later"!!!!!!

  • @ 1:45 - The ship runs on MS Windows? Oh man... not good. All hands brace for frequent crashes!

  • i cant belive we are only getting 6 of these thats only 3 ships to defend each of the two new carriers we need more

  • Well I think I'll book the royal navy instead of the premier inn next time :D

The only problem I have the the navy is it is all one big computer game. Like in many sports cars it seems as though its all computers and not the training of the gunners, the accuracy of the fire directors and the teamwork of the men in the16 inch shell handling rooms. I'm sure the reality is very different.

  • the reason there is more space is it will have less crew, same with the astute class, yes its bigger but also has 30 less crew, as for its full capabilities its probley mostly classified, all anybody needs to no is that it is billed as the most advanced air defence ship to sail the seas by all navel so called experts who arnt, stroke bias jelous. wish i was in navy now. oh well only few more yrs of jumping out of planes with my home on my back,

  • u a para?

  • can its hull stop an argie exocet fling fish anti-ship missile?.../ @ milwaukee

  • i found that strangely funny haha

  • @brass20wintergreen "can its hull stop an argie exocet fling fish anti-ship missile?.../ @ milwaukee" It's hull doesn't need to stop an exocet with its hull, it was designed to stop the planes carrying them and failing that, the missile in flight, and lots of them.

A brilliant piece of technology, largely due to it's stupidly advanced radar system.

Hopefully, when we dig ourselves out of this huge debt we can apply the same technology to our next gen nuclear powered attack subs....

  • Wow, would of loved to have been on a ship like that during my 24 yrs in the US Navy. Fantastic, Good Job

  • Utter rubbish.

  • They've ordered 5 to protect the first new carrier

  • Nice ship indeed. Smart-L radar is veeery nice. Very similar to the new danish frigates beeing built (Iver Huitfeldt class). But i must say, the danish frigates look way more awesome than this one. Daring calss reminds me of the Italian Andrea Doria frigates.

  • wow fantastic! hmm no charts tho!

call me old fashioned but when nautical navigation is involved im a man for manual work!

  • M.T.V Cribs... on sea !!! haaaaaahahahahaa

  • Grossly over-priced and armed with less weaponry than a corvette. It has the gun, the chopper, and the SAMs.

No deck launched torpedoes, no anti ship missiles, no anti-missile missiles, no land attack capability, nothing.

But guess what - apparently it's the best destroyer in the world, figure that !!!

PS - Even the Saudis won't buy this pile of crap off the Brits.

  • Im in the navy and can tell you that it looks good but like all things in the royal navy, nothing works

  • Oooo, that's the ship that was built outside my house, in Glasgow Scotland, and the flats in the background are called plain street flats. xD

  • Now...

I used to work at Scotstoun and at Govan. The only hightech piece to those ships is the funky computer systems. Rest is your bog standard navy spec'd hunk of junk that is botched and banged together as best the Clyde can manage.

These ships are advertised as the best the Navy has ever seen... I feel sorry for the dudes that'll be sailing on em. Same old shit, different packaging.

I still don't comprehend WHY the British government NEED these ships. Complete waste of time and money.

  • the british govt dont need them,.....the "new world order" does.....

  • Thankyou UK for doing everything you do. I'm a 44 y/o firefighter/paramedic in Arizona, USA. I appreciate your military very much. You all have a kick ass navy, air force.. not to mention some bad ass snipers I saw on a television special here as well. regardless of individual political ideals, thanks for risking your lives alongside our folks. God bless you.

  • its crazy, why no torpedoes and no harpoons?

fitted for but not with, but there is no money to refit the missing stuff!

  • They'll come off the Type 42 class as they are taken out of service.

  • @95predator I don't think it needs them

  • did u see the older destroyers, they were outclassed in Falklands we the UK REALLY NEEDS these ships

  • beautiful looking ship

  • where is the bloody bar mate!!!

  • tht looks great i hope i will be assigned to one of them when i join

  • on the guiniss world record books 2009 it says that hms daring is the worlds most advanced ship

  • No Way, I was a carrier rating and there was six bunk spaces to the size of one of them JR's cabins!!

  • Im going to royal navy this wensday in guilford !!!! hold thumbs gota do a apptitude test

  • im thinking about joing the royal navy, worth it?

  • Watched this being built

  • why do we need these? surely a very large fleet of small ships would be better?

the uk not at war with anyone capable of using powerful ships, and surely having more small ships is better against a guerrilla army?

im not a naval tactician so i dont know.

  • Nice to finally see in the 45!!

  • A few things British are and always the best at.

    First one being the Navy.

  • ive been on HMS Glouster (?) during a live firing exercise and the main 4.45 inch cannon at the front shakes the whole ship

  • All very familiar to other ships, the junior rates mess was absolutely huge, seemed much bigger than those on the carriers and I liked how the pitts were separated from the mess. Also the Ops room looks good and I'm glad to see the back of ADAWs, having your own personal setup is a on the system is a great idea. I wonder how cramped the junior rates will really be though ...

  • yuude almost think it was a cruise liner!

  • amazing ship, sailors paradise.

  • We only have 2 carriers to protect, so 3 type 45 each should be enough, maybe.

  • BugattiVeyron135, The Sea Viper Air Defence Systems capabilities speak for itself, Its radar has a range of 300 miles, it is capable of detecting even stealth targets and tracking up to 1000 targets simultaneously, it can then assign a missile to as many of those targets as can be stored in the ship and control them simultaneously allowing one ship to single handedly defend against dozens of air craft, it can also launch 10 missiles in 10 seconds, allowing it to quickly intercept missiles..

  • Your avan a laff arnt u. Hahahaha, im a submariner n thats just ridiculous. look at all ur space . lol. Il admit its a mint ship n u got loads of space n it all gucci but even with all ur new equipment you still cant find us. Giv me good old TRENCHANT and my big fat pay packet any day.

  • Joinin navy in 3 mounths boys gana be a blast! hope to c ya there ( rateing )

  • amazing, wish i could join up again to be part of that

  • Like the junior rates cabins ,better than a mess deck with 50 bunks

  • Very comfortable ???? . Not as comfortable as getting medically discharged !!!!!!!!!!! left 3 years ago...tax free money every month for the rest of your life !!! Happy days. Spain is great !!!!

  • Looks pretty cool, I think the biggest mistake I saw was using Windows on the terminals

    Shouldve used Linux...

  • We need more than 6. It doesnt matter how good they are, a ship can only be in one place at one time, I think I read in a defence review a while back that a navy needs a minimum of 12 air defence destroyers to be able to operate effectively. British governments have always let the Royal Navy down, it was only the Falklands War which prevented the navy from being in the state it is now 20 years ago.

  • lol dose the ship work. being first in class no it dose not

  • hello there, im thinkin gof joining the navy at 17, what do you lads/girls think about it.

  • saw it being built...upside down!

  • One torpedo and that ship is gone. Too much open space

  • all what he said in that video was true, i was in scotland a few weeks back and they gave us a tour around 1 of the t45. u do get all that space to sleep and the weapons system and radar are the best there is

  • get that chinstay down hookey! bloody pompy rates!

  • Makes me glad I'm in the army, not the Navy.

Boys, your accomadation is shite. I feel bad for you lot.

  • just the engineering used to make this ship is amazing!!!

  • This ones kicking our(American Navy) ass for bunk space. Those racks are friggin' huge. And then theres the two tins of beer comment. And the CIC is just crazy advanced compared to our older ships. Where do they find people to foot the bill for these things, I mean WOW!! Hope I get to cross deck to one of those one day.

  • huge bunk space compared to our american version frigates and destroyers.

  • Did most advanced and most powerful mean something to you?

  • No kidding, I was on a couple of U.S. Aircraft Carriers and life onboard those totally sucks!

  • It's larger than the Type 42 Destroyers it will be partially replacing, although I don't think they added much more crew either, it just seems to be filled with more equipment.

  • Seriously. I had all of 16 inches between my matress and the bottom of the bunk above me.

  • Looks like a "comfortable" ship. However, he never talked about the ships capabilities.

  • Probably a secret.

  • hes probably not allowed to, most of it is probably still secret.

  • he's only an LS who sailed on a sea trial, he wouldnt be in on too many of the ships more fancy secrets. would be nice to hear about some of the weapons, ops or propulsion or whatever he's involved in.

  • probibly because its classified and he dosent know yet lol its only just done its sea trials

  • they are classified at the moment

  • well it can detected and shoot down something the size of a golf ball moveing at 3 x the speed of sound

  • There are lots of talk about it's abilities elsewhere, so i guess this video was focused just on the ship itself for that reason.

  • its the most powerful and advanced ship in the world, what more do you need to know

    RULE BRITANNIA

  • They're still fairly secret.

  • i don't believe him at 3:22 that ratings will be given that much space. Every sleeping area for ratings is always cramped and inadequate on every ship you normally see. Its disgusting that people in the navy have to live in such disgusting sleeping areas which are like battery hen cages. the government could build them more like cruise ship sleeping areas but just want to cut costs. Life is more important than money

  • you think so? i was onboard HMS york (A type 42 destroyer) as a cadet and found the mess area and gulches to be reasonable. That's an oldish ship too, there's no reason why the type 45 would have a lot of space, maybe they addressed the space issue with the 45.

If they really are the rating's cabins i hope i'm deployed on a D class when i sign up, it looks well plush!

There's always room for improvement though

  • lol try being a submariner

  • Part of the lifestyle I guess if you choose to join the Navy, I was on HMS York too and thought our mess was fine, was def an 'oldish' ship tho, smelt like an old museum or something.

  • Lets set the record straight. I am a Lynx pilot in the Royal Navy. Yes from the outside it looks as though there is little room, but as cra83 said it is reasonable. If you live near a busy road or train line, Im sure you think nothing of trains or cars going past as you just accept it. Its the same in Ratings messes, there is no issue, your used to it. Also with each new class of ship living conditions improve so there really is no issue.

  • Seen the bunkspace, just like it is on vid. why would he lie???

  • ...

these ships are supposed to be tactically designed, making the cabins bigger means making the ships bigger and changing the layout as well as making them unfeasibly expensive. they're pricey enough as it is. it's the same deal with us in the canadian navy, too. you seem to forget it's the military. soldier up.

  • thats all good to say, but remember our wages come from your taxes, wouold you be happy knowing that our WARSHIPS are like PnO cruise liners..........i think not

  • Space is a premium on warships, and with a minimum crew of 190, it's impossible to give junior rates a cabin of their own. Stealth is an important factor in modern ships, and although the type 45 has technology that reduces it's radar signal to the size of a fishing trawler, it needs to be as small as possible.

The bunk space, however, is very generous compared to past ships. I doubt many ratings would describe HMS Daring as disgusting, instead most are looking forward to serving on her.

  • came into portsmouth this morning, fucking beautiful!

  • seeing this compared to what my dad had makes me wanna join so bad lol

  • They cant afford to build 12 ships the Banks need all the military budget. Did you know Barclays bank spent £800,000 on their new logo.

  • Military budget is going up. The U.K. defense budget in 2008/2009 will be about $68.3 billion, which makes it the 2nd largest in the world.

Barclays have received NO government funds.

  • of course they can, the uk spends 34 billion a year on its millitary and 14 billion goes to the navy. And with the budget rising to 44 billion soon we are having a military makeover!

  • well said!!!!!

  • they can afford to build 12 new ships, its only because gordan brown cut millitary contracts even thoe the MOD has the money to go ahead with the deals

  • Unfoutanetly Powell999 , the Royal Navy will only receive 6 Type 45's!!! For heavens sake you guys need more than that.Hopefully the government will allow for more.

  • Probably could do with a couple more. Have to consider that they are proper area wide air defence destroyers ergo one type 45 is more powerful than all the type 42s they are replacing. They're not the kind of ship that will eve be used for anti piracy or Caribbean drug enforcement. Way too expensive for that.

  • 6 is plenty, each one can destroy hundreds of targets within minutes. Even one ship would be amazing, just one can defend all of london!

  • the labour government has always been known to cut the military power, especially the army, so i doubt they will build more

  • well we was getting 8 at first but cos of the war in iraq and afghan is costing so much thay had to get 6 insted and are getting 2 sorts of new frigets 12 3000tones and 8 6000tones

  • the 3000 tones are the fsc and the 6000 tones are the fremm

  • It would have been nice to see some engineering spaces. Sailors come and sailors go but it's the guys below who make the ship go!!!

  • i will be on it hopfully in 4 years

  • good video.

  • All computerised. Impressive, just takes some EMP and thats it.

  • Nice video very impressive ship.

  • Impressive ship.

  • wow the MoD staff must have sold their organs to actually pay fro a new ship - especially of that caliber!

  • And thanks for delivering this in Geordie, I luv it, mate!

  • was that blood on the deck at the beginning of the vid : / im 31, 32 this november : ( is it too late to join how are you treated as an oap when joining??

  • Egads!! The ops room at 1:37 is running Windows XP! But good to see the Royal Navy getting new ships.

  • Shes due to be launched soon november i think, dauntless is next up!

  • Im in the navy and like everything in the navy this thing wont work I guarantee it

  • This ship needs offensive firepower. Should have went with Aegis/BMD 3.0 upgrade instead though for superior anti air/missile defense.

Has potential, add TLAM capability and a instant winner is born.

  • thats an amazing ship makes me proud to be british

  • I was looking at some stuff just now.... and its a bit shocking to see....... amy ways there was a grumble about the cost rising from £5.47 billion to £6.46 billion per ship.... but thats nothing compared to how much has been blowen by the RAF on the Eurofighter....

its about 20 billion...... and the eurofighter is 54 months over due......... you get another 4 T45s for that much!

  • Wow! ty for posting this - nice tour) impessive ship.

  • why dose it seem lyk he is reading it frm a book humm proablay is lol

  • not only is it a good ship it has an excellent Captain who was PWO A on Alacrity during the Falklands war

  • No SSM, no CIWS, no land attack capability, and now no ship launched ASW torpedo capability, plus they are only building a handful of them.

The Brits would do better to build 4 decently armed patrol ships than one of these big under-armed whales. You need to talk to the Spanish about buying some of their superb F100 frigates, or maybe the Sachsen class from your friends the Germans, now those are great ships.

  • i saw this being made when we went on a trip with school to the naval base. the whole thing is actualy built upside down.

  • ime joining the RCN after my 4 years of college...you should see some of our frigates..i got to go on a tour of HMCS Winnipeg. we got to eat lunch in the chiefs and petty officers mess...42" HD TV...leather coutch...sattelite...but who cares bout that cause ime gonna be an officer..anyway..lol i thought that the 'cinema room' was a pool at first lol

  • wow. ship seems pretty advanced and roomy.

  • she's not a patch on the Vital Spark

  • could anybody give some examples of the sort of dangerous situations that happen often onboard naval ships and the injuries that happen the most often. I'm not trying to be bad but i like to analyse situations and people should be told the truth and have a right to ask anything they wish. DO mines sometimes hit ships. obviously it doesnt make it into the media. what happens if a sleeping area flood? do they have bedside scuba equipment. Bottom line is it not safe

  • I'm applying to be a Warfare Officer at the moment, I'd love to be PWO on board Daring!!!

  • I swear that those computers in the "Ops room", call it combat on the Us Ships, were running windows.

Another note, I know crew morale is important but there seems to be a lot of "frills". I personally believe in the form of function.

  • This over relience on computer technology could be a lot of forces undoing!

    What about EMP's

  • Hey, I am thinking of joining the royal navy. Send me a message if you are too. Might be a intresting conversation

  • Is it just me or is there no windows in the bridge? I suppose it's just a plastic film covering them, but it being the same color as the walls it's hard to tell.

  • awesome i might actually join the navy

  • Excellent footage, thoroughly enjoyed it, hopefully the British government will see sense and order more of the Type 45's and make sure the number in the Royal Navy's fleet, stay in double figures. Long live the Royal Navy! The person who did the tour kept it interesting, pity the footage didn't last longer though.

  • Have fun cleaning that sucker

  • we need 12 of these not 8. are you listening Mr Brown?

  • Yes Indeed! The Type-45 is certainly very impressive. It's faster, has a longer range, more stealthy, and has more powerful electronics & Radar features than the Arleigh Burke.

I'm very happy we've finally put together a ship that is rightly the best in the world at its job, it's been a long time since our navy could boast such a proud claim.

  • each one of these has the combined firepower of all the royal navy type 42 destory put togthier.

  • meh look on the bright side, weve got the two carriers on order..:P

Id be more worried about the conservatives and defence spending..

  • We need 12 with the equipment on them that was requested. Not the current half armed versions.

Thanks for standing up for the navy and for commenting.

  • there arent going to be 8 anymore they needed to save money for the carriers and there still deciding if they just want the 6 or even worse just 8 as they cant afford all this.

  • yeah ermm we need 8 now not 6 like we have ordered lol

  • I'm Working on HMS Daring at the moment.

Sad to say I think only six are being built.

  • Even worse now we just get 6 thats the price of the cuts being made to pay for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, our future defence is compromised way into the future.

  • @Powell999 And WITH weapons!

  • @Powell999 I'm hopefully joining the royal navy and 100% i agree, and i heard about the new prime minister increase fire power, Navy ships, ballistic submarine's and aircraft .... ETC for the army. He's increasing firepower due to the threat from the South west (Argentina, Brazil), far east and then middle to south east, which is imminent. you most likely know this already but also for the people that are intrigued by peoples thoughts and opinion's.

  • senior memebers of the senior service, sounds quite senior

  • Rikki looks like he has been forced into this! but other than that i suppose it is fairly good!

  • im joining the navt as a seaman :) 3 months till my interview

  • don't do it!!

  • wow wa wee waaa

  • nice tour. I met an RN sailor in Istanbul in 1958 who gave me a nice tour of his ship, HMS Eagle. Had my first English style tea aboard, urns with the milk already mixed in and that's preferable to me these days. The quarters are a bit better than the hammocks we saw in use - feet sticking out here and there, the night crew I imagine. Thanks again,

  • Great ship and Rikki Renner did a good job keeping the tour interesting :)

    Well done.

  • Yeah, Rikki Renner did a good job indeed. Would love to see a clip like this of a complete Type 45 Destroyer, maybe an MTV cribs special. Haha.

  • great video, would be good to see a longer up to date version, im joining and still have not proporly seen the inside of these ships

  • A bit odd looking from the outside but impressive overall!

  • So high-tech.
