I looked up Wiki, and Daniel Johns said the song is about not being able to feel love, so it's definitely not a love song.

I am not sure why this song is juxtaposed with a love story. It's really not a love song if you listen to the music. 'I love the way you love, but I hate the way I am supposed to love you back'. My interpretation of the song is about someone who is selfish in their love and expect unconditional love from another person even if they dont love them back. The line 'what I wanna say... its gonna hurt, and I love the pain' the love is almost sadistic and one sided. But It can be interpreted any way.

Ive read that he said those things about this song, but there is ambiguity....on the one hand he is saying he doesn't care, but when he sings "I miss you love" it is terribly sad, does he in fact miss someone, or miss loving period? There is more to this song than the answer he gives which is only representing the surface.
