In love with British classics...I just hate the idea (esp Hollywood!!!) changing the classical stories into modern time settings (like Romeo + Juliet, and the Great Expectations starring Gwyneth Paltrow)
As it's a three-part miniseries, there's no excuse for cutting out the bulk the first graveyard encounter -- one of the best scenes in the book. But it's beautiful visually, and I like the kid. Fingers crossed.
@xGeerFreedx You're absolutely welcome. I had the same problem at school when we read this. People were too incompetent to understand it so they called it boring.
Now Way! I'm reading Great Expectations, I thought it would be excellent that the BBC did an adaptation, and the 1st video I found is the BBC adaptation! I'll watch the complete movie!
@lavanguardiadelsol Pretty much what "great expectations' means is that there is much expected for a person. That is, who they will become, that they expect great things of them. In this case, since Pip has been given chances to succeed and (**spoiler alert**) will great a great inheritance, there are now people how have 'great expectations' for him.
I received this on DVD from Holland, another BBC Classic one cant buy in England but im glad i bought it as its excellent and well worth a watch, think i'll sit through it again.
@xoOJDxo1994 Hm gee that's strange considering it just played it all for me without stopping and videos with excellent quality stop within the first 3 seconds...hmmm...
It's nice when they actually use children to portray children. :^) It was funny to see in an older version that they had Estella just dress up like a little girl and we were supposed to believe she was the same age as Pip!
I've just recently started really getting into the Dickens stories since I got the complete illustrated Oxford Dickens as a gift recently, I started at 'Sketches By Boz'
I love Charles Dickens, and this is definately one of his best books. It was only a matter of time before it became a movie, and it's only a matter of time before it becomes a musical...can't wait for that. :)
@LadyAmaltheaUnicorn, a classical adaptation is the ONLY WAY to transfer a classic book, play or poem to the screen. doing it any other way is a disservice to the author and the fans of the source material.
I never said you couldn't. But most people can't and that's why they dislike it. Anywho it is not "gay". You can dislike the novel, but that doesn't mean it is a bad one.
I'm supposed to be reading this. As fas ar chapter 10 right now. Goddamn book keeps falling apart. Every time I turn a page it comes out. It's a 1956 edition... Very helpful when you're trying to read LOL
I'm a complete reading freak, and I read this book when I was in fifth grade, because I've read his other books, but for some reason I didn't get it... lol
I've read the first part of the novel and it was kinda funny... The version of "globe novels" is so much interesting and detailed (with less deep words) than the unabridged versions. xD

''Camels?'' said I, wondering why he could possibly want to know. Joe nodded. "Mrs. Camels," by which I presently understood he meant Camilla.
