What do i have to be good at to do game design? do i have to be a great drawer because i cant sketch worth a heck. but i am very creative. and do i have to be a really great at math?
These video game designing camps are great but I heard that they cost like 3, 4, or 5,000 bucks for like a month or 2. Thats too much for my budget. but I really want to learn more about this game designing stuff.
@DarkSmokeNinja - Our camps start at under $800/per week. We hold them during the summer when school is on summer break. Check out our website for full details: internaldrive[dot]com
awww... i wish i was <18 again... am 20 , and its REALLY a shame that i didnt know about this camp previously...my dream job is video game design... am a software engineer student now, yet i never had game design experience yet...:S
@TheRealAuxiliary how about "Atlantis", or "Humanitarian"? These are the games I am planning to make, but I believe noone will ever be interested anymore...

its going to be a zombie game with 4 survivors and i have the weps and stuff but i need help with the zombies plz send me a vid/message about what to make i only have 2 zombies.thx :]
You're in luck! We actually have a location at Macalester College in the Minneapolis/ St. Paul area of Minnesota! You can check out all the courses we offer there by visiting our website and clicking on locations! Hope to see you at camp!!!
@idtechcamps really?! i live right by minneapolis! but i went to your website and clicked on locations, it wasnt listed. should i try going to macalester college website? im not sure where i should go to find the information
It's not hard at all! As long as you are between the age of 7-17 you can attend! We even have 2 week teen academies for students 13-18!! Even with no experience at all, we can teach you how to create your very own video game from scratch! You can check out all of our courses by visiting our website!!!
@idtechcamps so how much is it to get into this camp, because i have 3 years of school left and i think i want to be a game designer, but i want to know if game designing is a good career.
all these game design commercials show modeling, animation and beta testing exclusively, if that. there's a lot more involved in the umbrella term of 'game design.'
Can't wait to get older.I really want to do that.I have tried actually programing when I was ten and I could only make a matrix that was stuck on the top of the screen instead of the bottom.
Wow, I'd love for this in Austin Texas! This'll teach you almost everything, if not everything to pursue your career in game design. If I find the money to attend i'm sure to do so.I work with 3D Studio Max I work with all Adobe Products I have experience from all genres of games and their engines. This could also be a great step to learn some connections! I'm 15 and a dedicated learner Using Source SDK as well. extending my creativity learning from others enchancing math, english and leadership!!!
Keep our website bookmarked! You never know where we'll show up next! This year we added Canada to our locations list! BTW - We do have students from the UK that attend iD Tech Camps, so traveling from abroad to attend our program isn't out of the question!
@idtechcamps Hey, I live in Miami and I'm attending in the rpg game designer course for one week at University of Miami, I have a few questions, one do you only do character modeling in the first week? because then it would be kind of boring but also is it hard? And can you download the software at home?
how was it? im really interested in game and animation developement, but there jack shit at all for me to learn. cant find many places available for me...
This is actually a VERY cool place. I went there in my young teens and it is a really good place to get exposed to the trade. The programs are streamlined, it's not like attending college, but for younger people this is a fun way to delve into the art of game design. When I attended for two weeks, I made a small (very flawed lol) FPS game level with Conitech 3d Game Studio. Did no modeling or programming. We just used existing meshes in the engine. It got me hooked on development though! :)
I have one question?how old do you have to be to go there and learn i am very interesten in making an online 3d role playing game i am 13 and i would like to go there
:/ I dont think they use top things... Only think about how much the certification for then Cryengine costs... Pleas don t think that Halo, BF, MoH... are all using the best stuf ^^
guys game making is not so easy especially when you are making 3D games and you try make something like halo u would need 20 ppl or more, the most hardest part is scripting and animating you need serious platforms engines etc. not like trash stuff to game maker and walla just google "how to make 3D games tutorial" and make about 10 ppl group for beginning
It is really tough making games but once your done a warm feeling comes over you its a great feeling! The instructors here are really cool and will help you.
Making a 3D game is easy as saying "I'm going to make a 3D game"
But it just takes a good amount of time, about 2 to 2.5 years to make a good one, and many people just are not patient enough to do it alone.
I am a 1-person team working on the next greatest independent-game. I'm making it in a Japanese style of game design, because I like it better that way.
he's right, to make a game like halo you would need 20 people, BUT your not making the next halo, your not buungie! And 10 people is a tad excessive! for a simple FPS you only need about 3 people!
"We take the Nintendo Wii for a spin for HARDCORE gaming tornaments". ROFL. Yes, I'm sure the Wii games they have are very hard core, especially since they're all writing FPS games, what Wii FPS's are they having these tornaments on?
To answer your question bro it depends on what you like as for what u just saw in the video they show art and motion animation they diffrent jobs with game design if you like like to draw or even suck at drawing but like art then 3D modoling would be good for you you can design pple areas equiment and just about anything tht pops in ur head but if ur more into the math then you would want to go for programming really intense stuff iam a 3D modoller and animator at my college.
It is a team effort. Your ideas may be used in your team's project, but to be team-leader, you must prove you know about EVERYONE's job and have good management skills. You can learn math or Arts, it simply depends what you naturally wish to do. The shiny graphics or the behind-the-scenes mechanics? I'm personally striving for both, even though I'm HORRIBLE with math and programming, I need to know at least a little bit of it if I want to get anywhere. Don't limit yourself! :)
this place is expensive. its like 2,999$ or the the two week and 3,999$ for the three week. if it costs that much then it must be a REALLY good camp. i better start saving up lol
I live in scotland, where they made GTA 3 and 4 though, there isnt many games design courses around here, if anyone has any information on how to get me started please share, by the way I'm 15 and I'm about to sit me GCSE exams.
I really want to get this qualification down! I live in Scotland, yes that's right Braveheart!
By the way, Scotland was one of the made hosts on creating GTA 4 although, there is not many games design courses here... I need tips on where to get started, if anyone has any info to help me please share. It will make a massive difference in my life. Thanks
13-17 ? :( ... I just finished high-school...so bummer ... Does this teach only 3D graphics stuff or programming too ? Check out my game I'm making in Game Maker
im 13 and i can make a pretty good game, but now i just need s better graphics card to add textures...well are any of your campuses located around houston, tx?
I 14 years old and Im taking a home school class where you can make your own Game! I dont care how long it takes to make a game, I;ll keep working on it till it's done!
cna someone say me how old you must be to do tha thnig im from the netherlands and im 12 years old i search some programms to make 3D things i already have some skill in it
how old do you need to be to take this, I'm 13 :( but I do this stuff all the time at home, I use 3DS Max 9 (I also have the 2009 trial), anyways, I use Adobe Photoshop, After effects and all that good stuff and 3d Animation is what I want to presue a career in but I want a head-start like this, so, is there a age limit?
Looks fun, I'm working on a 3D game engine when i have free time and it is fun, but I would never imagine it as a job. It's a lot of work to make a successful game. It's fun though.
one more thing, where is it at, how many years does it takes till is over, and give me the schedule, and city. is it only one city? and do you go there for free, am in 7th grade, if aint free how much u have to pay? i really wanna do it! it must be so freaking awesome, i want to be a game designer when i grow up, it must be awesome!
Game Programmers? BS. I've heard of this crap before. Here's the steps to create a *REAL* game. Learn C++, Learn Win32, Learn DirectX, CODE, CODE, CODE!!! Well... that's if you want to create your own engine. First buy Beginning C++ game programming(teaches C++), then buy Programming Windows, then by Beginning 3D game programming with DirectX 9.0. Code Away.
this is exactly what i wanna do after i graduate.. it would be so cool to make my own game :P i play world of warcraft now and it would be cool to have a game similar to that but alot better :P
after you graduate, youll be too old to enter this program. Oh and for the other comment...Collins College is authentic, they are just desperate trying to make you think you are getting payed to play games, not work.
Hello I'm 14, I live in Scotland, I'm extremely intrested in game development .. although I really need to get started which program should I download ? Please help me... If you have xbox live add me Steathdude07 (And no I aint spelled the name wrong :P )
too expensive, i bet you can do better if you learn things on you own, all you need is motivation.. plus, internet is something anyone can use to download apps and tuts, no_one stands in your way of knowing more..
Why didn't I find this when I was a year younger...

how old do you need to be to take this, I'm 13 :( but I do this stuff all the time at home, I use 3DS Max 9 (I also have the 2009 trial), anyways, I use Adobe Photoshop, After effects and all that good stuff and 3d Animation is what I want to presue a career in but I want a head-start like this, so, is there a age limit?
VegasCS3 3 years ago

Looks fun, I'm working on a 3D game engine when i have free time and it is fun, but I would never imagine it as a job. It's a lot of work to make a successful game. It's fun though.

Jasmira 3 years ago
after you graduate, youll be too old to enter this program. Oh and for the other comment...Collins College is authentic, they are just desperate trying to make you think you are getting payed to play games, not work.
MuggyFuzzball 3 years ago
This looks like a good place.
And the commercial is better than others *cough* Collin and Westwood *cough*. This seems to be authentic.

too expensive, i bet you can do better if you learn things on you own, all you need is motivation.. plus, internet is something anyone can use to download apps and tuts, no_one stands in your way of knowing more..

Is programming or model making experience necessary? So far I use GameMaker and GML, with 2d sprites.
mman36 4 years ago
Not required, but would be helpful to know.
