@DanielDumile Look, I don't care what your beef is with @carlphone or @proslade or whatever. This posting is for people who want to enjoy a Slade track. If you think Slade are "such a trash band" then you've got a problem with staying away from stuff you think is trash. I'm sure there's a term for it. I'll give you and the people/person you have targeted a wee while to find this comment then I'll be removing your diatribe from my vid. .
@kara1464 couldnt agree more kara1464, the guy obviously is a genuine slade admirer but he somehow finds it difficult to convey in the normal way,,anyway l dont hold that against him,,what do you think? maybe we should send him slades greatest hits in a clandestine parcel,,,
@robharding1957 Nah.. not clandestine lol ... it would only be appropriate if it was a sparkling silver parcel with the SuperYob logo in irridescent blue all over it and a button on it so it can be playing Crazee Now out as loud as possible when it's handed over to him, preferably in front of his psychologist. Let's blast this denial of his right out into space lol. Yeah! And instead of Greatest Hits, it could be a Best Of ... now, the Best of Slade - that's a HUGE parcel!
the wife and me went to see slade in blackburn uk in 78 they played this without the piano,,dave give it some welly on lead guitar and it was ten times better than the official version,,one of our greatest bands of all time certainly in the past millenium,,oh alright then atleast since 53 when the charts were first formed,,
Such a great mixture of styles and sounds and ofcourse a killer chorus and melody. Top class musicianship and all four guys in perfect harmony. Incredibly the B side (It's Alright By Me) is just as good.
Popular music peaked with this majestic piece of vinyl.
Ok.... all those with Ginny Ginny on yellow vinyl, let's meet up at The Trumpet, bring your 'Ginnies' with you. How does Saturday April 2nd sound to you all? Anyone who has to travel can stay at The Robin Hotel, next to The Robin 2, a few minutes away.
@carlphone Oh God knows.... it's like they were pushed aside, swept under the carpet, whatever. The men in suits just dropped them like hot bricks. Very little airplay and nothing on the telly. Grrrrr grrrr bloody grrrrrrr.
@carlphone more than likely my friend, how can such songs as this escape the net,but they as you and your dad knows were incapable of making a bad song,,slade to the grave and beyond,,take care ,rob h,
@carlphone so right my friend,,slade were not in the beatles pc promotion like so many popular bands of the day indeed decade,,,but imagine if they had the support of the pc brigade,,,, they would have been as big as the beatles themselves,,but even without that backing,,,,,,,,, they were massive and even now they are going to be almost impossible to better,,,cheers carl, might see you in blackpool one day,,,
All those with Ginny Ginny on yellow vinyl post a comment and maybe there'll be enough of us for a convention at The Trumpet. Bring your crystal beamers too!!
Shows the power of the media then and I suppose even now. A genius song like this backed with the equally good It's Alright By Me and it died a sad death. I have a copy just as I have a copy of the other Slade misses of the late 70s. Anybody else got Ginny Ginny on yellow vinyl? So happy to find all you guys loving Slade as much as me, it was pretty lonely from 78 - 1980 but the great lady in Hobdays Record Shop of Popular Rd, Kings Heath Bham got all the releases for me and I still have them.
Thanks for reply. TotP didn't acknowledge Slade for '70s singles?! They had more Number 1s than anyone else, some of which went in at 1! That's a ridiculous oversight. Glad I don't bother with TV any longer. :) Even Status Quo haven't achieved what Slade did with rock singles. Cheers. :)
Am still surprised this wasn't a hit. I know it was '78, and the band had a year-and-a-half to go until Reading, but this was a surprising 'miss'. I much prefer it to earlier keyboards-driven rock songs such as My Friend Stan. Even the guitar solo is good.
Massively underrated and it's a shame.... a song like this should have seen them on TOTP again... but we all know what happened with TOTP at the end of the 70s? They did a review of the the number 1s of the 70s at the end of 1979 and they didn't feature one single Slade song.
If that was the attitude against Slade, then I'm hardly surprised it wasn't a hit - it probably didn't even get any airplay.
yes Slade rocking ..

Fantastic track, that was let down because the lack of airplay. Radio 1 really had it in for Slade for some reason?
It's nice to know that there are so many others who appreciate these great tracks.
Iv'e still got all my Slade collection, including "Ginny Ginny" on yellow vinyl.
Cheers,
Keep On Rockin!!!!!!!

It was an a-side mate,1978.
Great song ,it should have charted.
karik666 2 years ago
It's one of their best songs post-Flame, to my mind and, dead right, it should have charted... but... c'est la vie.
Amended info (thanks) ...x
