  • the funiest thing about this train is that it is difficult to say how fast it runs unless you have gps since its so quiet and I always tend to underrate its speed by far. The only way you can tell that its fast is by passing low level clouds - more like in aeroplane than any train or car. Marvelous experience from Paris to London two weeks ago.

  • Good film. I assume a "run-by" is a train passing through a place. But what do they own ? why have you used the possessive apostrophe, indicating ownership, for a run by. How about trains, or Eurostars, pasing through Kent. Then the plural is trains, not run bys whtaever they are.

  • awesome video! i love the noise of the engine carriages at either end when they go past you on a station!

  • In the :56 the machinist saw his camera and honked.

  • Great video that 5*

  • nah these are going full sped 186mph

  • very nice some of those class 373s were goin about 160mph

  • @SDOTzz2 I wanna see some of them EuroStar horns. Who made that train anyway, Kawasaki?

  • @AdmiralArcher Consortium of Alsthom (La Rochelle, France), Metro Cammell (Birmingham, UK), BN (Brugge, Belgium) and Brush (Loughborough, UK)

  • Whats the speed on that line??

  • Ranges between 250 and 300kph

  • Nice shots, how do you reach the medway bridge position???

  • How far we've come from a few years ago when these trains crawled through Kent at 60 mph. Now we have at least one railway that truly is a high speed rail link and comparable to that in our competitors.

  • mph btw

  • All hst's in Britain should be doing at least one fifty.

  • hst's tops speed is 148 off the top of my head...feel free to look it up and tell me how wrong i am lol..:D

  • It's ok, i'm not one of those who has to prove anyone wrong because of self esteem issues or what ever psychological ailment. I'll take your word for it, and thanks for your reply.

  • I just wished they were all APT's!

  • The HSTs tops speed is about 148 as mcmarga correctly pointed out. But due to the crappy signalling system in the UK they are limited to 125mph. Apparently! (anyone feel free to correct me?) lol.

  • Is there any indication that HST's are to be retired in the future. And If so, what will they replace them with. I assume another Diesel locomotive since electifying those routes would be very expensive.

  • Umm, ive read in various places that FGW are thinking of retiring their fleet by 2015. But that decision was made before the global economic crisis. So that may well have changed. I believe they were thinking of replacing them with HST2's. But I dont know anything about them or wether or not the development program has gone ahead.

  • What are hst2s?

  • like i say im a bit hazy on the details but in february 2009 Geoff Hoon announced that "Agility Trains consortium of Hitachi" has been selected as the preffered bidder for the supply of up to 1 400 vehicles as part of the government-led Intercity Express Programme. this intends to replace the current fleets of IC125s and IC225s. I apoligise the "HST2" program was just the medias slang. But these trains are intended to replace the current intercity trains.

  • There have been proposals to electrify some parts of the west country mainline route and a few other routes but these plans are still in its infancy. I dont fancy its chances either as its estimated to cost in the region of £8.5billion.

  • Got the go ahead in August, which means Wales will have its first electric trains by 2016. Hopefully this will lead to electrification of the Cardiff suburban lines.

  • @viewson800 The HS2 Program is actually an extension of the HS1 high speed line that currently operates between London and the Channel Tunnel. The HS2 will carry trains up to speeds of 250 mph between London and Yorkshire.

  • Nice video.

It's about time we had rail lines like this going up and down, {and across}, the country.

I like the toot you got from one of the drivers.

  • the noise it makes as it passes by is cool it sounds like a space ship lol never gets old

  • omg I've been on a train that fast! I'm never going to france by train again

  • at least you were comfortable and you were holding your nerves, weren't you?

  • yea, It was ok, but I was asleep almost the whole journey

  • oh ok, lol

  • though when I got on that train, I was holding my nerves worrying that the continuously scraped overhead cables would blow up despite sparkling electricity because it was scary

  • its like a 200mph acela

  • The Eurostar almost looks like a different train when she's running on the CTRL like this vs. the 3rd rail

  • I,m going on the Eurostar in June,I can,t wait.

  • great sounds and the trains are even better

  • Love the sound! I've only ever heard it on YouTube because when you're in a 373, you don't hear that lovely sound. I wouldn't call it noise because it's not good to insult the sound.

  • best sound in the world

  • One of my favorite High speed trains

  • I was travelling by this train on april this year and i couldn't believe it runs so fast.I didn't feel this speed from inside and honestly speaking i was very disappointed because of that. But now i think it's really very good piece of machine:)

  • the last two screen I like very much. because it is very real...

  • Great vid, nice to seem them pass less close up than most similar vids.

  • There seems to be a lot of arcing around the pans. Was this the result of damp weather, or do they always do that?

  • Thanks for the comment. Yes on the first three it was very damp/misty as you can see the cars on the M2 have their lights on. This was also affecting the autofocus on my camcorder. On the other shots there isn't any arcing & the autofocus is fine.

  • Thanks for the comments everyone, I'll Try to go back & take some more footage over the winter.

  • Totally Awesome!

  • Gotta love that sound

  • Love the sound!
