Just after his death, I heard he liked this man's music. I couldn't remember his name except that he was Polish and it started with an "H." The radio personality said Henryk's music was Pope John Paul II's favorite sorrowful work.
God bless you for posting this, as soon as this hit my ears I knew I found the right composer. It's funny how agonizing guilt lends itself to such mental clarity.

No, Henryk Gordecki wrote the book aout pope. The music was made by Wojciech Kilar. He makes a lot of good music. Classic and film. Regards.
