I got tired of listening to him rant about Michael Jackson and obsess over his sexuality. I'm not even a fan, but I acknowledge that M.J. was a uniquely world-famous pop star, and as such, his funeral was a pop event. People around the world felt a loss, and people around the world wanted to see a service. And using MJ's surgery obsession as a segue into society's shallowness was just cheap. MJ had a horrible childhood, was completely nuts, and isn't representative of anything.
I don't think Hedges really understand much about how things like the music or film industry actually works. Putting blame on producers? Really? Wardrobe consultants?
As much as I agree with him, I do believe he has a long way to go in terms of stringency. A lot of this seems like things he just picked right out of the air. Things like ignoring that Jackson had Vitiligo. How much time could it take to gather that information?
but he is correct about how MJ was consumed by his stardom...

@SatansSpatula I thought it was an important point. Gave me a new prospective on MJ's life.

This was from September 10th, 2010. I am in this philosophy department and this is the first time I've seen this talk, (couldn't make it the day of).
