  • where i can download this movie?

  • go out and buy it you thieving fuck

  • Love this film. Hate this trailer.

  • When I was a kid I watched this on TV.A few days ago I got a flash about an anime girl that was falling and I knew it was from this movie but I couln't remember the name.So I asked my father,we watched it toghether, and he said he knew the movie, but not it's name. And then I typed on Google" anime movies with robots"and there it was the movie that made my childwood showed up. OMG my hands start shakin'.I just wanted to say: Thank you Metropolis for making my childhood so awesome! :').

  • @FiNeTtYsTiCk1 The same thing happened to me too lol, but I remember it had polis at the end lol

  • There are problems with the narrative and pace of the story, but that probably has more to do with the baggage of being an adaptation of a manga than incompetence. However, the animation is so rich and the soundtrack so creative that it is not to be missed by anime fans.

  • Dude the original from 1929 (wich is not in manga) is way better then this!

  • @Icebears4ever Lmao, I was about to say the same shit! This is a total rip off of that movie, just more recent..

  • Penis? was that a penis at 00:56?

  • why does this remind me of Astroboy? ://

  • @xXLittleAbbyXx Both Astroboy and the Metropolis manga are by Osamu Tezuka. (Keep in mind that the manga was influenced by Fritz Lang's Metropolis.)

  • Rock is the best !!!!

  • I got this movie on psp 5 bucks

  • Got this movie for $5 today, brand new. :)

  • @LonerStoner me for 3 last week :D

  • This amine is a must see if you haven't watched it. I make it a thing to watch it at least a few times a year.

  • Most fucking underrated anime movie in history.

  • @cypresspuz why? because you only just heard of it?

  • @sulkoma Well you just answered yourfuckingself. But the right answer is because i actually got a taste for movies.

  • astro boy?

  • I agree with AtticLightProductions in the description ^^ This trailer is epic hehe ^^

  • @renoinabin....I agree. How could this trailer give so much credit to these Japanese writers and producers and not once mention Fritz Lang? It's obviously based on his work.....I mean, it's call Metropolis after all.

  • I was trying to figure out who does the voice of Atlas in the english version cause it seemed so familiar. Turns out its the same voice as Aladdin.

  • This is a really good, I first watched it when I was little and didn't get the plot at all :D But I have to have this on DVD, one of my favourite anime films ever along with anything to do with Studio Ghilbi XD

  • whenever i see this film i always think of megaman zero

  • This movie is a classic, I still remember watching it when i was around 7 on tv and i've never gotten over it . this movie NEVER gets old <3

  • Aqui una Aportacion de un Servidor para todos aquellos que desen recordar este Clasico Creado por una Leyenda :D

  • defs not a kids movie - was eternally scarred as a kid when i watched those robots get shot D: D: D: x1000

  • I do recommend this movie, because it speaks more to the heart than Fritz Lang's Metropolis. Fritz Lang's movie was more about the underlying chaos of a city bent on order and working ones self to death for the sake of a machine. This movie is more about the idea of a life being created and the logic of those who care for her and those who seek to kill her and other self-aware robots. It's what you would expect an anime version of Fritz Lang's Metropolis to be, I enjoyed both films.

  • Neat film, but something really urks me. In the making of part of the dvd, they don't mention Fritz Lang's Metropolis at all. They act as if Astro Boy, which was another of Osamu Tezuka's projects was the ONLY inspiration for this flick. Outright bullshit if you ask me, the anime Metropolis is a cut and paste anime version of Fritz Lang's masterpiece. I've seen Astro Boy cartoons, nothing about Astro Boy, save for the robots come to life fantasy, is included in the anime Metropolis.

  • @TheEnviousdominous Well yeah i always thought it was a anime remake of the original movie

  • @TheEnviousdominous on my copy of the dvd it references fritz lang explicitly, maybe its a regional thing, (im in pal territory)

  • it's like astro boy :0

  • algun link para poder descargarse esta pelica que está buenaza!!!!

  • AWESOME MOVIE! and its MORE AWESOME! as the narrator speak

  • astroboy?

  • fuck this. watch the real movie.

  • @ThaSubzstance Hehehe yeah, I didn't get why Lang nor his original film wasn't mentioned! I don't think I'll be watching this, at least because no good it's supposed to be, it's not gonna be as good as the original anyway!

Hehehe seconded! Fuck this shit--watch the REAL movie hehehehe

  • Reminds me of Fritz lang

  • whooaa, i remember watching this on adult swim years ago! i used to have the BIGGEST crush on the guy with brown hair wearing shades lmaaoo

  • this movie is so epic that i dont even give a fuck how ugly are the character designs.

  • Osamu Tezuka would have haten it!!!

  • @lisachineserooster Nope. This is by far the movie that gives him more justice, even if it's a little diffrent from the original manga. He would hate 2009 Astro Boy movie instead, that's for sure.

  • This movie was so amazing, that I named my username after it! So, i'm doing Osamu Tezuka a favor!

As some of you may have guessed, Youtube DID have this movie in parts, and it was FREE,however, it was removed for some sort of reason.

However, there is also another free solution! A website called "AnimeFushigi" has this movie, but not in good quality. It's worthit! Anyone who wants to prove me wrong, feel free!

  • @TheMetropolis101 its on crackle.com for free

  • is this an anime movie or an anime series?

  • Well... i prefer Bender. it's better than a robot who looks like a baby with serial problem in the eyes XD

  • Astro boy?

  • so basically it's a rip off of the Fritz Lang film.

  • @boomkrakatoa Yeah, or you can see it as an awesomely renewed version of it, for Lang's version is quite a bore due to technical issues!

  • @UnAttireCommun I finally saw it yesterday, and you're right. It's WAY less tedious.

  • I met Rintaro in 2003. Amazing person and very good director. This is his masterpiece!

  • Saw this movie on Film4 years ago and loved it so much that I bought the DVD even thought it doesn't work on British televisions and DVD players. Today I saw it scheduled on my Freeview player and thought "oh, cool, I can set it to record and watch it any time I like and it will work on a British TV set forever!"

And do you know what I did? I figured I could grab an afternoon nap before it started, and ended up missing it by over 4 hours. Goddamnit, why am I such an idiot?!?!

  • I knew someone from akira would be involved with this

  • 0:25 Red vs blue radio sound :D Also does anyone know where I can see this film again, I saw it on one of the ITV channels and it was the part when Rock (At least I think thats his name) Captured Tima and tried to open her with a laser and onwards till the end, Japanese version with english subtitles please :D

  • i luv dis film although its quite sad at the end

  • did u know tht there's a deleted scene tht shows Kenichi and Tima at the end together?

I read somewhere tht tht scene suggests tht Kenichi rebuilt her ^0^ -3

  • So this is where they got the idea for that movie A.I. I see a lot of similarities.

  • This is where the movie truly begins, a tale of mending friendship, overcoming loss, learning to forget the past, and the dire ramifications of mankinds thirst for destruction of one another. Metropolis 2 should bring closure to fans of the original, and send Osamu tetzukas beloved series out with a bang.

comment and tell me what you guys think!

  • The cyborg tima, in the mean time is working with metropolis' remaining computer network. Using the tech at her disposal, she creates an AI bound to her will. It takes the form of 3 auxillary wires merged into a ghost-squid hybrid. Appearing to have no form of expression and standing nearly 18 feet tall, it uses it's wires as forms of legs and a tail. Tima commands the AI to find Kenichi and bring him to her, no matter the costs.

  • Dauntless crewmen warn harding that Stockhart forces are mobilizing for full scale war. Harding tells kenichi that if he can help find a way into the ziggurat undetected and help them destroy it for good, they will protect him and give him tima when the mission succeeds to which Kenichi agrees.

  • Comment removed

  • At the Dauntless, Harding gives Kenichi the situation. Kenichi tells harding that the capture troopers wanted Timas heart which he then shows to harding. Harding then realizes that this means Stockhart forces have already gotten to the ziggurat and they are hunting Kenichi for the one thing that can power the weapon. Kenichi asks him how he knows so much about the ziggurat and Harding reveals that he was one of the lead designers of the Ziggurat, back when his nation was allies with Metropolis.

  • He orders the cyborg tima be placed on the throne of the ziggurat. Her cybernetics quickly merge with the ziggurats systems. The old timas (the Metropolis 1 robot) memories, which had survived the overload and quickly take over the cyborg timas mainframe. This means that if cyborg tima comes to life, her emotions and personality will be that of the old tima, except that she will now age like other humans. Tima is alive now inside the cyborg, but she can do barely anything physically.

  • Stockharts cyborg tima had been successfully been rebuilt but wouldn't come back to life. Eckart realized that he'd been decieved and that it was not a robot tima that powered the ziggurat, but rather her heart. Humiliated, Eckart sent out the capture troopers to find the heart, of which they had found by stumbling through Shunbaku sans documentary tapes that he'd left behind. Now knowing that they'd failed and that the good guys presumidibly have the heart, he launches an attack force.

  • Harding introduces himself to kenichi and vice versa. Harding tells kenichi why he is here and tells Kenichi to accompany him back to his flagship, The Dauntless, A massive airborne Aircraft carrier. Medevac troopers take the wounded crowe with them. Before they leave, Kenichi snags Timas heart from his dresser.

  • The sleek-plated trooper demands that Kenichi tell him where the heart is, to which he refuses. The monstrous solidier then lifts Kenichi up by the shirt collar with one hand and a blade switches out of the wrist on his other. He once again demands that Kenichi give him the heart. Before Kenichi can even comply, the troopers head is blown off from the side of his head. Kenichi falls and sees 4 gunships headed for him. They land and in the first one is the noble Admiral harding of the good guys.

  • Crowe tells Kenichi that there is going to be war soon, and that he should leave the city. Kenichi refuses, saying that he isn't leaving until he rebuilds tima. Crowe then realizes that Kenichi is shunbaku san's nephew and reveals that his father was shunbaku sans best friend. After a while of talking, 3 Stockhart capture troopers break through the roof and attempt to interrogate Kenichi. Crowe successfully kills 2 of the troopers, but one of them incapacitates Crowe.

  • so many loose ends in this movie \:

  • Kenichi at this point, is the one of the very few inhabitants of metropolis. With no form of goverment and with all robots either running rampant or just hanging around the abandoned (and unstable) skyscrapers. Kenichi has spent the last year trying to rebuild tima, with no hope of success. Then he meets SGT. Zack Crowe of the good guy country (can't think of a good name) inadvertantly stumbles across Kenichis 1 floor makeshift apartment after a recon mission gone wrong.

  • When in actuallity, Stockhart wishes to use Tima as a power source for the ziggurat. Duke red tricks them into thinking that it is the only way to fire the daunting weapon. Eckart assures Duke that he and Tima will be reunited after the coming war. With that, duke leaves. Without Eckart knowing, Markov had stealth agents rig Dukes car to explode. Duke red dies in the explosion, with markov telling eckart that it must have been an assassination.

  • Unbeknowest to them however, the rival country (named stockart) hadarranged a meeting with Duke Red, who had oddly survived the ziggurats overload. Duke red, now a broken old man, simply wishes to see his daughter again. Stockhart's military commander: General Eckart, along with his lapdog Colonel Markov, persuade Duke to dig up the remains of the human Tima, convincing him that they have the technology to cybernetically enhance her body and giving it the energy supply to bring her to life.

  • Metropolis 2:

    1 year after Metropolis.

Kenichi remains in the city, trying to rebuild his robot friend.

2 rivaling countries are in a political deadlock over who should get Metropolis.

After overcoming the UN and technologically surpassing NATO forces, both countries attack.

Kenichi is caught in the middle and attempts to leave, until the alleged "good guy" country tells him that they can help rebuild Tima, if he will help them find a way into the ziggurat.

  • I've always been amazed how much Osamu Tezuka accomplished in his 60 years of life

  • i want to watch this film but its not even on youtube :(

  • its on movies on film4 at 11:00 am thursday orrr film4 monday 4:55 hope this helps lol i was looking on tv for manga films sad right >) hope i helped :) xx

  • @charliexxdani thanks! i just but a timer on it to remind.

  • This is one of my favorite movies ever.

I watched it the first time back in 2007, when I was 12. I thought that it was the most wonderfully animated movie ever XD

  • This movie is PHENOMENAL.

  • I loved everything about this movie except for the disappointing character design....

  • @Ingretto It's because the characters are based on Osamu Tezuka's original 1949 drawings. He is the guy that established the whole manga/anime stylistic look.

  • I saw this while on Holidays on Sky TV :)

  • Yes, this movie made me cry as a child, but I couldn't stop laughing at this trailer; John Burgmeier (Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho's voice actor) parodied this trailer narration style so effectively. After seeing the parody, this narration style seems to stick out like a boner in P.E.

  • Esd muy buena YA habia visto algo similar en anime pero este sin dudas es mayor q la version anime.. Pense q seria como la pelicula de Astro Boy pero este es mas intenso, es interesante bastante...

  • Astro Boy?

  • This movie really deserves a sequel. I had so many unanswered questions.

  • i NEVER cry in movies..but this movie..its A PIECE OF ART! i cried once tima started to remember, but it was too late. MASTERPIECE! best animated film ever made!

  • Dude.... after watching this for the first time when tv the ISH...... Adult Swim presented this movie one night and my ass stayed up to watch it, spazzed out the WHOLE TIME, cried, then cried some MORE after it was done. This movie....it just...So damn BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I don't think "beautiful" is even the word for it!! Its just so much man!!! So much......

  • Please, Someone give me a link to watch this in HQ without a torrent or download please?

  • that american voice killed the trailer

  • i think that this movie is somehow similar to Astro boy am i right?

  • I cant stop loving yooooouuuuu....

  • Dr. Elefun on 0:26???

  • Can't the narrator shut up?

  • GOD

by the creator of AKIRA... AKIRA...

guys I'm gonna love this film!!! wish it will blow up my mind just like AKIRA did!!!

    thumbs up!!!

  • the city(and some other scenes shown in the trailer) remind me of the identically titled 1927's movie...inpsirational source perhaps?or are they completely unrelated?

  • this film is screaming for a blu ray release.

  • Did he say "Monga?"

  • this sux!

  • I don't know if they have redone the dubbing, but when I first watched this long ago I thought the dubbing was off? Like the lips were not matching?

  • i watch this movie in I-sat OTAKUUU

  • Using the song 'I can't stop loving you' by Ray Charles was masterful during the dramatic climax finale. This movie is truly amazing and beautiful.

  • @SOOLTV I wish I could thump up this 33 times

  • @ElBribri Thank you!

  • IRobot?!

  • I loved this film, I felt like I was part of this world! Its lie freeken bladerunner

  • i got a question...is this the anime version of 1927 movie? or are they different movies?

  • @theunfortunateevent this is an anime based on a manga whose artist was inspired by the 1927 movie poster. but the two are two different stories.

  • @Soundwave3591 Oh i see...thanks (: i will watch it...

  • Ive been looking for this movie FOR AGES !

    god i love it

i saw it when was little and fell in love with the ending of it

  • If it was that popular, I would've heard about it 10 years ago.

  • god bless kastuhiro otomo.

  • damn anime

  • where is the daily planet building and lexcorp office?

  • These guys were pretty cocky to call this the greatest animated film of all time. Miyazaki put together some really impressive stuff over the years, and I hear Akira was phenomenal. Still, Metroplois was unique and interesting as hell.

  • @Lakerzrock10 If Like Metroplois and Akira check out Karas.

  • Why did they use that generic music in the trailer? I loved my blues better in the film.

  • 100% Crap !

  • @deyo3396 nice joke

  • Nowhere near the original 1927 film in how groundbreaking it was, but it is a damn worthy tribute.

  • I miss this. i used to love this movie.

  • God I hate Anime. The characters all look so fuckin' Gay. Someone teach them a new style, Pleaseeeeeeeee.

  • @utuberhino If you don't like anime, then don't go and comment on it. Anime is the most amazing thing ever invented on our planet. Japan is an amazing country. They have great manga and anime that gets translated into english so North Americans can buy and watch them. So yeah, anime is amazing. And the characters do NOT look gay. They look amazing!

  • @AnemoneTrance You DO know what an opinion is, right?

  • @AnemoneTrance I'm sorry, and I don't mean to offend, but is anime really the most amazing thing ever invented on our planet? What about books? Or cars? Or computers? Or the TV's you watch anime on? What about everything medical ever invented?

Just a thought. Japan is an amazing country though, you are right about that.

  • @MaxGoldbergFilms I didn't mean on the whole planet, per se. I could have put metophorically speaking, but yes. Books. Cars. Computers (the second best thing in my opinion) and TVs yes. I watch anime frequently on TV. :)

  • @utuberhino i guess someone has never seen astroboy, black jack, kimba the white lion etc.

  • the original is from 1922,from germany.

    This versions sweet too.

Checkout "Brazil" from terry gilliam and some of the Monty Python guys. It's similarly excellent

  • it was kinda sad that tima died... ㅜㅜㅜ

  • A favorite!!!

  • i just bought this for $3 dollars at Big lots. lol

i haven't seen it yet, but it looks awesome. glad i bought it. :)

  • I think I've seen this film about 15+ times. It's my second favorite film, the first being Lang's.

  • is this a german movie? some say it is...

  • @miera1029 1927, a silent, revolutionary german film called metropolis is what you might be referring to

  • @miera1029 This is Japanese; the silent film version by Fritz Lang was German.

  • really guys? if u all have issues with them making a new style of this movie then stfu and go back to living under ur rock, they got the agreement to make this movie anyways.

also irobot (uber gay movie) but they stole the idea from the original version of this movie. i don't see ppl crying like babies to that now.

if u dont like it then stfu and move on, noone really cares about your childness, i just find it pathetic that u all have to go and complain when the person under u says the samething

  • @DjVSchindler , we know our history ppl and we know its based off a silent movie from '27 so you can all shut up now and stop being babies. ok und thankyou.

  • why is everyone bringing up the fritz lang version. yes its inspired by the original film but watch this movie for what it is dumbasses

  • This is a ripoff , the original movie was done in 1927 , look it up !

  • @TheKaos90

This isn't a ripoff - go look it up!

  • I have nothing against anime in general, but I liked the original 1927 movie well enough that seeing a cartoon remake just feels wrong. Kind of like how Samurai 7 is to the original Seven Samurai.

  • holy fuck, this trailer just blew my freaking mind

  • I was like... JAMES CAMARON! IS IT "THE JAMES CAMARON"!?!?!?!

then I was like... probably now :p

this movie is awesome anyway X3

  • For all you noobs out there, there was a live action movie called Metropolis with a similar storyline. It has a female cyborg in it too. Forget Ghost in the Shell, Akira, and this video none of it is original so people can stop preaching their bullshit as if Hollywood just copy whatever anime ideas that was out there. They got there ideas from other movies too NOOBS!

  • @InfinityWard312 I forgot to say that the movie I was talking about came out in 1927 so everybody can actually learn their history and get it right not see something today and think it is sooooo original.

  • @InfinityWard312 Stop! Before you call anyone a Noob, consider the fact that this might actually be a different version of the movie. Honestly this is very well done, and the animation is great, especially for the cityscape. And this wasn't done in Hollywood! People are allowed to enjoy this so deal with it.

  • Animatrix anyone ?

  • i caught like 5 minutes of the tail end of this movie years ago and i've been looking for it ever since. i made THAT much of an impression on me! wish somebody'd post it on the 'tube! (sigh!)

  • @jteshuwah Exactly! Once, a long time ago when I was maybe 11? (I'm 17 now) I saw the tail end of some movie that started with an M, but I can't remember for the life of me what it was (I was too small and sleepy to remember). I really hope it's this movie!

  • I've been searching for this movie for a long time!!.. I've watched this since I was a kid and I cried when the girl fell down (that's my favorite part )

  • I wanted to cry after watching this beautiful film

  • @k3used

I know many people who laugh at the animation style when they start watching, but are speechless when the credits row. Its really a great movie.

  • @k3used -- Your comment alone makes me want to watch this movie, now.

    d( * ___ * )b

  • I GONNA DOWNLOAD IT RIGH NOW ... THANKS AGAIN JAPAN

  • at 1:08 that quote has also been said about spirited away, by the same person - james cameron. whats up with that? :/

  • @Catee62 $

  • @oggedask i see :L xD

  • What's the the song from 1:06 onward

  • i looked for this so long because i seen it when i was a lot younger im 17 right now and it was so sad i almost cried and then i found it at block buster but didn't get it and now i just remembered it im about to find it on some site and watch it but this movie is so good

  • the japanese come up with the coolest shit.

  • SUPERMAN

  • This film is amazing you have to watch it people

  • This trailer sucks but the movie is fantastic

  • alright there is another movie JUST LIKE THIS, kind of....

It's about this kid who illegally harvest like spines from robots and sells them, but then a robot bounty hunter gets after him. There is like the city in the sky, and then like the robot ghetto underneath. What the hell was that movie called. I was looking for that one, then I found this one.

  • @mafiachild could it be steamboy??

  • @mafiachild The movie about the "kid who harvest robotic spines" is called "Battle Angel". Its about a female cyborg named Gally who was discovered at a dump by a mechanical surgeon, who fixes the cyborgs, and restored her back to life. Also check out the manga , which is called Battle Angel Alita. Its said that James Cameron is making the live action movie of it, but its gonna be awhile
