so: is that video response of Florez supposed to be "one-upping" this clip of Pavarotti? Or was it posted here just to make Florez look bad? I love Florez's in his own right, but you do him a disservice by comparing him, literally side-by-side with Pavarotti.
I had the privlege of seeing Pavarotti in recital on several occasions with John Wustman. These recitals were phenominal. Pavarotti"s rendition of Ideale is the finest I have heard. He is sorely missed. I also had the good fortune to meet him in person on two occasions. He was very gracious and kind to me and my then 8-year-old daughter. I treasure those memories.
this beautiful interpretation bring tears to my eyes, one of his best performences! A great inspiration for the next, (unfortunately small) generation of bel canto singers. May his recordings live forever.
this beautiful interpretation bring tears to my eyes, one of his best performences! A great inspiration for the next, (unfortunately small) generation of bel canto singers. May his recordings live forever.
Very fine accompanist too. Not sure if it is Wustman or not. I would say that Geoffrey Parsons, the Australian pianist, is maybe the most famous after Moore. Moot point though.
If he had never sung anything else this Ideale alone would have established reputation as a great singer. He is much better in this song than Caruso and much, much better than Bastianini.
Ideale has always been my favourite Tosti song. I think the best versions of this song are from Bjoerling. He makes with his beautiful voice this song coming from another world. I always thought and regretted that Pavarotti (my 2nd best tenor) had never sung, let alone, recorded this. To my big suprise I saw and heared here that he had! And it's even on CD. What a beautiful (extended) version he did. A typical Pav. version with lots of emotion; you see and feel he's singing to his beloved. BRAVO
That particular song meant a lot to him. This is nothing but pure and honest human emotion delivered through the medium of one of the greatest singers of all time. RIP
The first time I heard Pavarotti was on a duet album with Joan Sutherland; the moment I heard that voice I knew he would bless the world with his talent. I'm seeing this video for the first time today. Thank you VERY much.
I dont want to forget to speak about the pianist, the pianist is incredible too, together is one incredible mixture music and voice, Bravo for the pianist!!!!!
really people here dont know nothing about to sing!!!! Luciano Pavarotti in this 2 songs make the most incredible interpretations, is really incredible! pavarotti do more than sing, give the soul, sorry for my english I try to do my best to explain all what I think about it, Thank you, not only I like to heare Pavarotti I love to feel what give can give with his sound heart and feelings in the music.
E meraviglioso!Che bella voce e che bella canzone. One of the best lyric tenors ever, singing two lovely pieces from one of the finest composers of any era,the wonderful Paolo Tosti.Bravo Tosti e Pavarotti.Riposa in pace Maestro.
Amazing! Bravo! Thanks for uploading, this is surely a treasure that can get me through modern culture's music. Pavarotti was the best and I am engulfed with goosebumps every time I listen to him.
Samurai-It's not a matter of disagreement. You were blurting out BS on a rendition which opera experts call is a "classic" and praise for its flawlessness. I called you on your BS and pretentious verbiage which was devoid of reality. Now go get informed a bit.
Just because you disagree with my statement need not compel any of you to engage in childish name calling and insults. Someone needs to teach all of you some manners and the civil way to express your views.
Samurai9 is talking rubbish to be quite frank. The music itself is over the top that's the point; it's not meant to be sober and calculated. I think Pav interpreted in the right way
Pavarotti overemotes in the first song and turns the piece into a sob-fest. The musical values and the vocal line should not be sacrificed for lacrymose self-indulgence. The tenor rarely made this mistake and usually let the music speak for itself. The soft singing in the second song is striking.
Really beautiful, but I tend to agree with Samurai9, he did pour it on a teensy touch too much in a couple places and it was distracting. Really blasted near flawless singing though.
fabrizzio-So singing is considered a forte for a tenor? In case you missed it, opera's only pillar is singing. Everything else has a supporting role! Who cares about acting if the singing is mediocre? And operating acting is not much of an acting in terms of acting. It's simply the plate on which the food is served. The food has to taste superbly first and foremost.
I always get the sense that Pavaotti did his best when it came to recitals and oratorio, not live opera. He was not confortable maintaining a character for the full lenght of an opera, however, when it came to songs, he could concentrate on his forte, singing, then, acting would always blosson like a fragrance. He was a stylist, a technical buff, first and foremost.
It depends what time period really. He had a tendency to do 'stand and sing' without emotion in opera after the '70s, by then he was such a huge star that he probably felt he did need to make as much effort anymore.
I do believe that before the fame went to his head, he was a serious operatic artist.
Pavarotti is truly a paragon of vocal excellence and style. This is surely one of the greatest renditions of this Tosti favorite ever recorded. I would put it next to Bjorling and Caruso's, in fact.
he was not a singer ,he was the best tenor and the only one to be remember in 200 years, the rest of the tenors will only be found in history books, believe me.

didn't quite like the gigli-esque sobby voice in 'ideale' but marechiare was golden. The phrasing of 7:30 - 7:50 was particularly well articulated, one of many poignant moments in his excellent rendition of this wonderful song.
