@MurphyMonster Hey, England is one of the best places for motorsport. We had the ASCAR series, but it folded a few years back. But it is still a haven for GT, single-seaters, sportscars, hillclimbing, touring cars, historic racing, you name it, we have it.
Well with that said, I think CART had some very good oval races, (this was one of them) and the shear speed of the cars was astounding. I think CART had a great mix of ovals and twisties,... But for the most part, the IRL's formula really sucks.
For me this IS real Indycar racing. The IRL is a parasite series, and the real Indycar series died when Champcar went away ... The IRL is crap compared to CART.
Ain't gonna happen. Tony George isn't interested in an international series. Case in Point, Australia. He had a good successful race and venue in his hands and he dumped it. Only reason they go to Japan is for the Honda Yen. CART was a good international series, the IRL is turning into little more than a regional series with little international appeal.
Rockinghams an odd place now, huge grandstands and luxurious international facilities, yet they are never used, all Rockingham holds now are a few national events, its a shame really, whats also a shame is that CCWS has died when it was just beginning to get good again. I really hope the indycars make a return to both Rockingham and Brands hatch :D
i always liked rockingham (uk). hopefully once the now that AOWR is back together they can find a spot for this place. UK fans have a lot to cheer for with Wheldon Manning and now Wilson (hopefully). id take a trip across the pond to see it!
@franticfury: The cars were re-named to Champ Cars before the whole series got the name, because the IRL claimed the naming right for the term "Indy Car".
It is the British Rockingam , I was present at both this and the 2002 races, CART stopped coming because the Britsh publish didn't want to watch racing at the fastest closed circuit in Europe, all they want to watch is the over hyped Formula boring ( sorry typo should read Formula One)
That would be a disaster. IndyCars would be wide open at over 230 (maybe 240 in the slipstream) and if one car (milka dunno) spins it would be a likely fatality.
Besides, why would NA$CAR want a rival series (one that they do NOT control) to compete on THEIR turf?
CART consistently ran 230-240 MPH at Michigan and California(and Indy as well before the split) and drivers walked away from crashes regularly. You guys are seriously underestimating the safety level of modern IndyCars.
go kenny go kenny brack...you were nearly take the Champ-Car title 2001...(we miss you very much, after the horrible crash in Texas 2003)from all of old fans and friends...the best driver from Sweden.
Was in turn one grandstand. Cracking finish.

i'd call this the last truly great CART race

I really, really, REALLY hope that the new rules for Indycar in 2012 will make it as good as it used to be (i.e. this) :)

What a great finish that was. Wish I could have been there, but at least I did get to see CCWS in Holland years later.

I was in the turn 4 grandstand, which erupted for the final pass. 2 hardcore racers going right at it. Awesome.

I was here sitting at turn 1, the last 2 laps was AWESOME. So glad I was there before CART began it's slow slide down...

@MurphyMonster Rockingham in England is the original Rockingham. Like pretty much every city in the USA, the names are stolen from Britain.
Racecarwrecks 1 month ago
@Racecarwrecks I knew that, i just didn't think it likely that there happend to be an other oval in an other Rockingham, especially in England.

Are you on crack? ... I remember this race very very well. CART was real Indycar racing, not the current bullshit we have to put up with.

I can't say I like oval racing, but even on road courses, F1's got a little bit to learn from Champ Car. Even their road racing is pretty darn good.

seems to be a misunderstanding here, this has nothing to do with indycar, this is real racing

Once IndyCar gets more stable ground to stand on, I'd like to see its International appeal gain momentum again.
At the rate F1 is going, some teams may be looking to jump ship...

IndyCars raced at Daytona in the early-60's, with fatal results almost immediately.
lpdoby 2 years ago
That was in the 60s, though. Back when racing was only just starting to gain a real comprehension of what exactly was needed for crash safety.

No, CART is now known as ChampCar and is independent from the IRL.
