  • omg roll me a spliff quick

  • what model of suhr is that guitar hes playing?

  • @mjerina77 his own custom model.

  • Okay for those of you posting about Guthrie having no soul, please post a video of yourself playing so we can see what "soul" sounds like...

  • He doesnt need signature guitars, amps or pedals to emulate other guys. Just fingers.

  • I used to work for young guitar magazine for a few years, and i saw guthrie play like a 100 of differente guitar players... Vai, Satriani, Bumblefoot, Paul Gilbert, Yngwie, etc. But i'm as sure as hell that none of the guitar players i just named, can play like Guthrie Govan. He is the most humble and complete guitar player i've ever heard.

  • @pepectm well said... that man can do anything he wants with a guitar in his hands, and I have yet to see or hear his equal

  • The beginning is out of this solar system.

  • jeff beck its a great player but gutrie its god!!

  • 1:16 - 1:43 insane!

  • Wait.. what... did he just emulate a saxophone during this run.. 0:40

    Mind = blown.

  • @kranial1 i didnt hear a sax but i did hear greatness and i listened 55 times

  • To those people saying Guthrie is all just technique and no musicality, you must be incredibly jealous. How the hell can you possibly say this isnt incredibly good guitar playing in all areas. Opinion doesnt even matter when it comes to talent like this, you cant say his playing is rubbish as if its a general fact. The fact is he is one of the best guitarist's in the world.

  • why is it that when a musician exceeds his limit people just simply say he/she has no feeling and make it like some kind of a taboo. Is it bad to have these skills?

  • @justaspectator01 It's as simple as if you work really hard and get really rich. Same idea. People will get jealous and start talking shit.

  • @simbafx I think soul creeps up in his music. Yes it may not be easy to hear on some of the fast runs, but there's a lot of soul in some of his lines

  • @simbafx your a moron and you probably suck at guitar more than you do in the gay mens bath house u loser

  • @simbafx While I respect your opinion, I'm afraid what you are experiencing is the guitar equivalent of having sex and not enjoying it. If you don't feel anything while listening to this, you might want to take a psychopathy test.

  • @RDBeast does anyone say that? : o he comes up with amazing melodies, im stunned!

  • shit...!!!

  • 1st its a Jeff Beck "style" track not Jeff Beck track so PFFT Govan = guitar god

  • The mozart of guitar!

  • Great player but this is Nothing like Jeff Beck. Two totally different styles.

  • @kathmandoo His playing isn't supposed to be like Beck's it's just the backing track which is similar to Jeff's 'Behind the Veil'

  • govan is god

  • 1:15 OMG Dude this sounds like a message to dolphins :)

    You Rock Dude!!!

    Amazing am jizzed

  • you're great man!!!

  • you're great man!!!

  • VERY COOL!

  • This dude always makes me smile with his soloing..

Can't wait to see a Lukather-style imprv. from Guthri !

That would be awesome.. Didn't see that before...

  • This dude always makes me smile with his soloing..

  • IO challenge someone to cover this, I'd love to see it :)

  • 1:16? pull the string outside the fingerboard. It's like a combination of bend and slide. I did it by accident a few months ago and I was sure, nobody did it before. cheap whammy;P

  • my music teacher would have slapped me for doing that

  • Amazing

  • haha very clever 1:16 not really a technique but its cool to do

  • What did he do at 1:16, I gotta know!!

  • @Tonesnob72

He bends the string off the fretboard

  • @Tonesnob72 He hits the A at the 10th fret of the B string but instead of bending it towards him, he bends it down towards the floor and off the fretboard. It's something Steve Vai does quite a bit.

  • i'll take Jeff Beck playing melodies and phrases over this guy playing straight 64th notes anyday. Chops are chops, but music isnt chops.

  • @Guitarwizard they're 32nd notes!

  • @Guitarwizard YOUR A FUCKING IDIOT...HE DIDNT PLAY 64TH NOTES ALL DAY!Did you not hear all the musical phrases he just busted out...go listen to the efin white stripes or better yet why dont you post a video of you playing... oh thats right you dont have shit!

  • @Guitarwizard

You are right, music is not chops, but chops can be music. If you really did not hear, that Guthrie is making real music all the time...i´m sorry for you.

  • 0:00 to 1:50 Epic riff.

  • The lick from 0:56-1:02 is such a class....sometimes i doubt if he is improvising that or he worked with that lick million times. Genius !

  • 0:55 to 1:02 EPIC LICK!!!!!

  • OK. 1:16. WTF?

  • @vinnycriss Don't take my word for it, I'm just guessing, but it looks like he bends the string down so it goes of the neck slightly, that generally makes a high pitched sound.

  • @kiaranjay No. I get it. I see what he does. What I mean is who the hell in the middleof a lick say " hmm, think I'll throw this in there?"

  • @kiaranjay haha yeah that's the trick ,don't try to bend 6 whole steps anyone:P

  • @vinnycriss He bent the note with his mind

  • @vinnycriss "Whammy" pedal...

  • @vinnycriss he bent it over the side of the fretboard, nice, ain't it? :D

  • @vinnycriss Hahaha, it's a very cool trick :p

  • @vinnycriss he is beyond mortal

  • @vinnycriss I guess he bended the strings out of the fretboard...but i'm just guessing the moves of a God =D

  • @vinnycriss I think he pulled the string right off the fretboard, wether on purpose or by accident it's still awesome!

  • microtonal...ther is a lesson on youtube somewhere...i always try to find them...but i cant do bend worth a shit...i lack that skill...and it kils my flavor, my soul, my blue.

  • @vinnycriss I think he bent the string out of the fretboard so the string got strained a lot more.

  • Comment removed

  • @vinnycriss think he bent the string off the fretboard, but amazing still!

  • @vinnycriss that sound(incredibly sharp for that place of the finger)come out when you pull your 1st string out of the fretboard.maybe you got it sometimes for accident ;)

  • @vinnycriss whammy pedal!

  • @vinnycriss He pulls the string off the neck and the string then frets on the side of the fret. It is a tough technique to make it not sound horrible.

  • If you put every guitar virtuoso in a blender, you get Guthrie Govan.

  • If I read one more comment that says "this doesn't sound like....." I'm gonna seriously start worrying about this planets literacy skills

  • Of course it does not sound like jeff beck...

It says "Playing to Jeff beck style track", not "Guthrie will play like Jeff Beck".

  • Guthrie Govan is awesome at what he does BUT this is no Jeff Beck style.

Jeff Beck IS the best guitarist to have ever picked up this beautiful instrument! So when I looked at this video I was hoping Guthrie was going to at least try not to shred shred shred but hey he is great at what he does so hat off to him.

  • @Mrguitarbeginner101 Beck is eons upon eons behind Guthrie. Rating Beck higher than Govan is confusing popularity with quality....

  • @o0Slipdisc0o How have I confused popularity with quality?? Beck has never got the credit he is due, listen to his live album at Ronnie Scotts his technical ability and emotion is second to none.

Guthrie is like I said awesome at what he does but I rate Scott Henderson better then him.

But Im not in to shred so this is my personal opinion but if you like that kind of thin take a look at scott Henderson he is like JB and GG in one.

  • @o0Slipdisc0o - with respect, possibly your Mrguitarplayer101 tag highlights the fact that you miss the point here. When virtually every major (and minor) guitarist on the planet, from Vai and Satriani, to Clapton, Page, Steve Morse, and the rest bow before Beck, you know he's got something special. He was the original shredder, psych, heavy, jazzy, funky, fusiony, melodic, feedbacking, raga, blues, country pickin', ripper who made 'rock' guitar exciting. Govan would tell you the same thing.

  • @MrCherryJuice is this comment aimed at me? Read what I have said about beck I havent missed any point. Beck IS for me the greatest guitarist always pushing the boundaries shame he doesnt get the public credit he deserves.

I know GG on this video is only playing over a Beck style track but why does he revert to shred shred shred.

  • @Mrguitarbeginner101 - Yes, you're quite correct. I confused the posts. The line 'Beck is eons upon eons behind Guthrie. Rating Beck higher than Govan is confusing popularity with quality... ' from o0Slipdisc0ois the incriminating one here. True, Govan can possibly shred louder and harder and faster than Beck (though Jeff is no slouch!), but Govan will never have the depth, sensitivity, musicality, etc. that Beck has. Govan is amazing, but I'm not listening for amazing. I'm listening for music.

  • Within 3 seconds of hearing a Jeff Beck tune, you KNOW its JB because of his unique style and touch whereas with GG playing a JB-style track (or even one of his own) it could be one of a thousand shredders. Which category would you rather be in ?

  • @bowiemott trust me, I know when its guthrie playing.

  • @sirus1987 a chacun son gout

  • @bowiemott agreed

  • i just fapped over this video?

  • this backing track is like waves thats why he uses some licks from it

  • GG is a great guitar player! But nothing in this song is Beck's style.

  • Sorry - Would rather be hearing the real Jeff Beck. Sure GG is good in that way that dedicated shredders can sometimes be but there is very little here that reminds one of Jeff Beck except maybe for some of the beginning.

  • at 116 im baffled what was it ?

  • @tbnice1966

To get that sound, you gotta pull the higher E string down so it goes out of the fretboard to the side of the neck.

My english isn't very good, hope that makes sense to you, it's kinda hard to explain :) !

  • @Xenormous I think in this vid its even a B string Oo!!

  • Some people are irritatingly stupid, Guthrie is playing to a Jeff Beck style Backing Track, he's not replicating his playing...i wonder if these people were breast fed or just beaten with a rock when they were younger

  • I swear that wide stretch lick @ 1:03 is in part the ''hard lick'' from Michael Jackson's beat it!

  • @EpiPeavey ye it is nice ears : D

  • Neat shelves....the rest....eh

  • Nothing even close to Jeff Beck.

  • this was jeff beck style like slayer is reggae style

  • 0:55 ....what the hell is this man doing

  • 1:08 to 1:19 coolest shit I've ever heard

  • i know i am going to get flack for this but i love his jamtracks way better than his concerts, i did notice these have a faster tempo than his live stuff.

  • Holy. Shit.

  • OMFG!!! HE IS SO AMAZING!! GOVAN SHREDDING IS SO MELODIC SO PERFECT IT ALL JUST SOUNDS LIKE GREAT MUSIC THIS IS FUCKING AMAZING! STEVE VAI U CAN BLOW ME!

  • dimebag lick 1:03?

  • I bought this tab off his website and damn is this song ever hard.

  • 1:31 I heard a little bit of Waves

  • please make a new album, it was the only thing that i listened to for like 3 quarters of a year. we def ned a new one asap!

  • MY MIND JUST GOT BLOWN! I want to learn this so bad

  • Good God what's with those TEETH!?!?!

  • Anyone else notice how he moves chromatically with one finger and keeps perfect time? It's unreal... see 1:32

  • I do declare, the beginning was a little beckish, the rest is more govan. Still very cool.

  • @5150zombie I just saw Guthrie two nights ago at a clinic and he commented on these jam track titles. He said that when he recorded them, they just told him "This track is in the key of C," and he'd jam--he specifically mentioned the Larry Carlton video and joked that this was the reason it sounds nothing like Larry Carlton!

  • @alspageddi man, thats cool as hell.

  • @5150zombie yeah man, he's not only an amazing player, but a real cool guy to talk to. And funny as hell. Someone handed him a paint pen to sign their guitar and he sniffed it, saying something like "Oooh! That's a nice smell, no? I'll have some fun with this later!"

  • @alspageddi man thats cool as hell. I wish I was there. Badass players with personalitys are always the best. They'res a short vid on here of him and ron thal fucking around at a old namm. It's pretty cool.

  • @jimmypage4ever : every note in this video has to be learned:D

  • OK Guthrie, It's 2011 now, time for a new album!

  • @Andrexthor it really isn't, I haven't even finished learning that one yet

  • @Andrexthor Make that 2 new albums please!!!

  • @Andrexthor Guthrie's new album will probably come out on 21st December 2012...

  • @Andrexthor he just released one with Marco Minnemann and Bryan Beller as The Aristocrats ;)

  • "What in the name of fuck was that at 1:14 man !!!" He must be God, somebody just ask him,"Guthrie just tell the truth, are you him or what??" If i could do that one noise i would never be able to sleep again ever for the excitement..Legend

  • Tabs Schmabs, if any one player in here thinks they could even hold water to the G man U R nuts

  • The bend that's off the neck at 1:13 is fucking amazing, how does he do that!? It's so perfect, and SO hard!

  • I respect this guy.

  • apart from every single note being Fooking awsome !!! 1:16 is sheer GENIUS !!!!

  • Doh....that is as far away from Beck as one could possibly come!

  • Lick at 0:55 is sex.

  • 1:20-1:26...It reminds me of his song waves...Same lick ;)

    Great jam...Guthrie is the best!

  • this track makes me wanna fire a joint and replay all day xD

  • "jeff beck style"? this is just reggae

  • @immaboogieman "Guthrie Govan playing to Jeff Beck style track "

that does not necessary mean, that he has to play like jeff black, hes just playin to a backing track that has a jeff beck style....

  • anybody noticed the waves phrase?? 1:22 - 1:26

  • @andrewwills2008 yup :) one of the only times I've heard him repeat a lick and it fit fucking perfectly.

  • @andrewwills2008

I did while transcribing it, but noone else did untill now! :D

  • @andrewwills2008 true that

  • :55-1:01... damn... just... damn...

  • @zooby11isbambam ....good call, that's one of my faves

  • Guthrie already had chops like this when he was in his teens.

  • Now that's some serious tone man...Awesome. I love cornford amps too, I got a harlequin, Wouldn't want to trade it for anything..

  • Jeff Beck will never dare perform again :)

    .

    Just kidding.

  • @dirtydonki i dont think that beck can do this kind of playing. im a BECK fan

  • @mikescruffy1

Technically - no. But watching the JB style and BB style Govan's videos - i think Jeff would do them better.

  • me thinks me jeans are soiled...

  • 1:17 craziest sounding thing

  • i like the part where he played guitar...

  • I want to see this guy playing music, not only improvising........

    i'm sure it'll be another story .

it looks like that guitar playing has become more a race than anything else. i play faster than you .,la la la........

i'm not even sure he can play the Beatles .......

I like guys like Holdsworth because he writes music and he knows what he does and you can hear it...

if you like Metheny you will all undestand...........

This has nothing to do with music i'm sorry, but good luck to him.

  • @Archangel41876 listen to erotic cakes

  • @Archangel41876 On the contrary, Guthrie, in working for Guitar Techniques Magazine, released a rendition of the Beatles' "Something" in the style of Jimi Hendrix. Unorthodox, I know, but if you can get your hands on it, he really captures the slow style of the song.

  • @Archangel41876

listen to his song.. wonderfull slippery things.. and u will see this guy is born to be musician.. and he take an action not just complaining about someone else style

  • @Archangel41876 wonderful slippery thing, go to grooveshark . com and listen to the studio version

  • ...from 55secs to 1.08. WOAH, sweet-as. 'nuf said

  • this is my favorite out of his short clips by jamtracks

  • @iJigglypuff this one's it's my favorite too!

    Larry Carlton second I think..

  • words fail me!

    get Guthrie for G3 now

although i don't know who would stand next to him and not piss himself

  • I think 100,000 out of 235,000 views have been mine =)

  • A victim of the Alvin Lee/Yngwie Malmsteen/Allan Holdsworth school of "always play as many notes as possible, as fast as possible--emotion is second to speed."

Technically this guy is up there with Buckethead, Vai, Satriani, etc...in other words, unimaginative and unlistenable. Too bad, because I DID detect some really cool runs and note combos that would have sounded awesome if played with some "shred" of emotion. Jeff Beck gets in the same trouble, rarely, and he's #1 in the world

  • @hyjyljyj Man, if you can't see the genious in this man, you don't know didley about guitar or music for that matter.

  • @hyjyljyj You "detected" some cool runs did you? That's very clever of you isn't it? I know little or nothing about this guy but it's clear he's a supremely talented guitarist and there's little detection required to get to that conclusion.

The fact about whether you like his playing or not is a separate issue.

And, for the record, in my opinion Lee / Malmsteen / Holdsworth's music is bursting with feeling....i don't like Holdsworth or Lee much but they pour themselves into every note played.

  • @hyjyljyj Wow. You are so full of shit. Listen to Erotic Cakes.

Just because this guy isn't making weird faces and shit doesn't mean he isn't engrossed in his music.

Please acquire a fucking clue as soon as possible.

  • @hyjyljyj I don't understand how any Jeff Beck fan can't see how this guy is just bloody brilliant. I say this because I'm a fan of Jeff as well. Assuming you've hear Blow by Blow, Wired.. it just doesn't make sense!

  • YEAH REGGAE SENSUAL ROCK

  • This is the best, make my smile and want to pick up my guitar and learn playing that good. Amazing. I can watch this all the time.

BTW. I've got this on mp3 on my phone as calling-ring. Sometimes I don't answer, just want to listen and enjoy music :)

  • @krajew4 cool story bro

  • @krajew4 I got Jimmi hendrix as call ring and i do the same ;)

  • What a cool HAIR ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

  • great ! I can't find any ward.

I wonder that if this nice job was seen by beck,

    what dose he say?

  • stop hogging all the talent Guthrie....

  • what kind of setup does he use? amps, pre-amps, pedals etc to get that sound?

  • Incredible hes an absolute master

  • Ok let me get this straight, Some faggot ass kid justin beaber who was made famous by singing a song with like 4 lyrics is making more than guthrie. Kids these days are so ignorant it hurts. Its funny how people are capable of making a multimillion dollar album with just a drum loop and preset chords installed on a keyboard or via a program.

  • 1:25+ damn. just to be able to improv a long line like that with constant notes and have it build up with no wrong sounding notes, shit.

  • @BlooBeluga I hear ya man, it isn't just noodling randomly through a scale either - i can definitely hear some note and phrase choices in there that compliment the chords very nicely. The change at 1:36 for example, sounds so good with those notes. Making straight 32nd notes at that tempo sound that interesting is an art in itself!

  • Holy hell.

How does he do this stuff? It puts every other guy who's supposed to be an amazing shredder like Joe Satch and Steve Vai to shame, it's amazing.

  • wtf did he just do at 1:16 to makes that sqeak?

  • @apow369 he pulled the string off the neck, it gets fretted way higher up on the neck

  • bent it right off the fret board or farted ... not sure

  • im gonna go with farted

  • Comment removed

  • @apow369 Probably an octave pedal.

  • @apow369 Whammy pedal, rather.
