Mr. Rickard, I tend to agree with you wrt the misinformation in the forums, and I greatly appreciate the information you present. I will not use coil suppression in my next EV based on Kilovac's recommendation. However, I AM using the coil suppression diode that originally came on my Albright contactor (sw-200) in my current EV, because on page 11 of the Curtis Controller manual it is recommended. I was hoping you could comment on Curtis' recommendation. Thank you,
If you are set on using coil suppression, and the older Albrights do tend to use them, you want a zener in series with the coil suppression diode. This changes the time constant of the spike suppression. These circuits are described all over the net - Google.
I'm not that much of electrician, mostly basic knowledge, but I know, that repair engineers, that fix Vectrix maxi-scooter (120V-145V battery charged voltage), use Inrush Current Limiter, when the reconnect the battery to the electronics. Couldn't you use ICL, connected in series as well? You'd avoid arcing entirely.
Jack, Are you sure it's Hydrogen in these EV250 contactor? like you mentionned near 6:32.. I would think it is more like NITROGEN.. and not Explosive Hydrogene right?
