There are some oldies stations here in the US who would stoop low enough to use these soundalike trash recordings.
As already mentioned, Pickwick began outsourcing cover versions from other producers to pad up the TOTP LPs in 1978, hence the bad joke quality from that time onward.
Great vocal here by Martin Jay a far better singer than the early top of the pops crew Martin was the best guy around if a Bee Gees number had to be covered recorded for every one in the 70s and 80s a good singer but Coombe gave him such a lot of rubbish to record
Not Tony's fault! By now Top of the Pops were buying in tracks recorded by Coombe Music, to keep the series limping on. The old team were long gone by volume 89.
It is like watching a nation busily engaged in heaping up its own funeral pyre. Now more than ever, British voters need to understand that they are being colonised. Unless they act decisively to halt this mass immigration wave, Britain and its thousands of years of culture, history and tradition will be submerged under the immigration invasion.
My dad bought these records for years for the family, ever since the 60s, because apparently we couldn't afford anything better.
I found it was around 1977 1978 that they where truly awful, really naff punk song covers. I remember some of the Stranglers covers where so bad they where hilarious.
I find now to my horror that one can buy them all over again re-issued on Itunes
this is QUEEN and BOWIE unless you were in yr 20s back then you will not understand...listen to the words...queen and bowie back then were the tops...
These were mad I did`nt know when I was a till I was much older it was`nt the original artist fuck knows how lol !We had one with Tiger Feet on and some bird in a leopard skin bra on the front
So laughable, it hurts...

The sad thing is, 'singers' like this now dominate our Saturday night TV on programmes like X-Factor and Britain's Got Talent!

You should hear the Top of the Pops version of Johnny Reggae it is truly awful the woman singing cannot even sing in time to backing music.
Their version of Telegram Sam is just laughable it's pure 70's comedy.

Oh this is dreadful. Tony Rivers and co. should be shot for this.

This is awful i can't believe people still bought them in the 80s. However no matter how bad it gets these albums are the BEST!!!

LMFAO this is ace. The guy "playing at" Bowie is hillarious. Quality. Someone should upload the TOTP verison of 5.15 by The Who, it's frakkin AWFUL!
SteveResin 2 years ago
For the benefit of everyone, the naff cover version of 5.15 can be found on TOTP volume 34. It's in a black sleeve with pink writing on it.
