  • 13 sec Steven segal is full of shit

  • LOL he's so skinny back then!

  • That man was using the shit we call "advanced" at jiujitsu tournaments nowadays, but he was using it like 15-20 years ago...thats phenomenal

  • Anyone who dislikes anything Erik Paulson is a cocksucker. He was 10 years ahead of MMA as we know it today.

  • what fighting style did he do?

  • People actually clicked not like on this vid! Un real! I love jealous KeyBoard Warriors! LOL

  • nice vid! i found your video in allroundpoundforpound com

    great job!

  • At 5:20 I was thinking "GO FOR THE KNNE BAR GO for THE KNEEBAR!" Thats what you gotta do when the guy is riding you with his leg between yours.

  • Who'd he beat @ 6:20? and what organisation?

    Paulson is the dude...!

  • @AdamLuxTIC Sean McCully in the World Combat Championship.

  • ..I wonder who'd win out of Bas Rutten and Erik Paulson.

  • There was a great demo vid he did at the World Combat Championships way back. The event where he got his hair pulled by the kickboxer.

  • goood damn video!!!

  • what s the name of the song?

  • @heimdallthemetalhead electric head by white zombie

  • What's the song? I know Zombie's vocals anywhere but I'm thinking it's his older stuff.

  • This guy wouldn't win any fights in the UFC

  • @DimebagVision Well probably not nowadays considering he is a lot older and not as in good of shape, but I think he would have a pretty good shot of winning some fights in the UFC when he was active (1993-2000), especially after they added the weight classes. Plus he killed another fighter after a seven year lay off, and he also beat Ronald Jhun and had a draw with Paul Jones, both of whom fought in the UFC. So it goes without saying he could have won a fight in the UFC.

  • @thomasknash

Exactly. He wouldn't win any fights in the UFC because he's not allowed to maim or kill his opponents =D

  • @thomasknash he trains brock lesnar now

  • VICIOUS

  • 1:46 He was a pro wrestler? :S

    Ridiculous costumes:P

  • Excellent vid, thanks. And the music is great :-D

  • would have been beta with a song that didnt make meh wana kill myself ahahaha

  • VEGA - streetfighter

  • does anybody got his fight against Ben Spijkers? Let me know !

  • Buddy of mine trained with paulson way back in the mid 90's. He used to come to State College (Penn State) to do seminars couple times a year. In fact he just did one there two months or so ago.

  • its erik not eric... this guy corners for brock lesnar in the ufc.. next time brock fights look at the guy with the bleached hair thats him...

  • 1:16 haha wicked triangle...mad respect for csw and big E

  • I remember him since one of UFC of first dozen...

  • he never fought in the ufc

  • Comment removed

  • how long ago did this dude fight? he fights like modern MMA fighters.

  • If you check the fight finder stats at Sherdog, you will see that his first recorded pro fight was dated 6/24/93. Though he fought and competed in other discplines for years prior to that even. Still, based on that one fight, he was doing MMA over 15 years ago, and about a full decade before it became popular in the mainstream sense.

  • no ywah bro, he was way ahead of his time. The first UFC fight I ever saw was like in 98' and this Paulson dude was way more well rounded than the guys I saw.

I do have more question for you MMAsage (sweet handle by the way lol) do you know why he didnt fight in the UFC? I mean with those skills he could've easily handled Royce Gracie, who was at the time cleaning up the octagon with his BJJ.

  • Sometimes forget what an excellent grappler he is. I never EVER forget how amazing his hair was though!

  • wow.. paulson was a crazy decorated grappler. like really decorated.

  • was? lol

  • lol well ididnt mean it like that, but i guess he still is a crazy good grappler anyway.

  • Paulson was so ahead of his time!

  • you do not know how right you are!

  • wow, he's great.

what was that movie towards the begining?

  • Intense

  • Plz whats the songs name?

And, someone else thinks that erik when long haired looks a lot like shawn michaels from WWE?

  • Electric Head (The Agony)

  • 3:02 outsidering

  • Have had the pleasure of training with Erik several times. One of the most inspiring and skilled MMA coaches in the world today. What he said at the end of the video about being good at telling jokes is also true. He can punish you for two days straight with gut wrenching training, but have you laughing and having a good time through the whole thing. Keep up the good work Sensei Paulson!

  • he's a great fighter!

  • is this shooto before ufc

  • shooto has been going since 1986 and paulson started just before the first ufc

  • Just got back from Houston where I and others from WLJA had the opportunity to train with Erik Paulson. What a great striker and combat grappler! This guy is a supreme athlete and martial arts warrior. It was a pleasure Erik! Thank you for sharing some of your technique and insight!

  • dude was way ahead of his time.

  • The first time I saw Eric Paulson was against James Warring. Before the fight they played part of these highlights and I was like "What the hell is his style?!!! It's kickboxing and wrestling!" (back then there was no term for MMA). I was totally inspired by him. I didn't know his name until yesterday.

Lo and behold, he had also fought my teacher Matt Hume at 4:23 clear pic at 4:50 a match that was won by my teacher. I credit Paulson for inspiring me into MMA though. Godspeed Eric!

  • How long have you trained with Hume?

  • Since '97.

  • Its too bad this guy isn't very well known. He's probably one of the better MMA fighters out there

  • yeah 10 years ago

  • lol yeah

  • ARTIST: White Zombie

    SONG: Eletric Head

    Your Welcome!!!

  • I'm just glad it wasn't that "let the bodies hit the floor, let the bodies hit the floor, let the bodies hit the floor, let the bodies hit the .......FLUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" song.

  • @Teabonesteak I think everybody is sick of that fucking song. If I had a dime for every time I looked at a new highlight with that song, I could buy out Microsoft.

  • many of these bouts were pre ufc as far as i know

  • Is this White Zombie singing this song? It sure sounds like them.

  • i couldnt believe that they allowed hitting to the back of the head in one of the tournaments at 6:10

  • Back in the early days of mma they were completely legal. Also notice they aren't wearing gloves in that fight.

  • Thats back when it was fighting and not just another sport. Fights were much better then and you almost never seen one go to the second or third round.

If someone was stupid enough to give up his back the fight was over in seconds just like it would be in "real life" you didn't see someone defending a choke for 5 mins.

  • it was always a sport, just less rules .Many of the fights with full vale tudo rules were just messy brawls as the hands couldnt take the repeated punching and very few croostrained which made them 1 dimensional.

  • this guy is grat

  • Who the hell sings this song?

  • white zombie

  • This guy looks fucking old as hell now.

  • lol, Please do me a huge favor and tell him that to his face.

  • funny thing is that I just met him about 15 min ago at his gym and he's really nice for bein so crazy at fighting

  • Make sure you tell him that he scared me out of MMA competing!

The first time I saw a No-Holds-Barred match he fought against James Warring and Harring pulled on Erik's long hair for 10 minutes. Since I have long hair myself I said "forget it!"

I've done MMA for 10 years but never felt incline to compete, for many reasons. In the back of my mind though, there was always that fight!

  • You know, you could have gotten a haircut, hippy.

  • LOL!

The chicks, man! The chicks dig the long hair!

  • funny thing is that I just met him about 15 min ago at his gym and he's really nice for bein so crazy at fighting

  • His long hair was cool. Now he's just cool

  • "His name is Erik Paulson." - Durden

  • no one knows the name of the song??

  • WHATS THE SONG CALLED AND WHO'S IT BY?

  • Sounds like Rob Zombie.

  • this is electric head by white zombie who are Rob zombies first group, and the song is from the Astro creep 2000 album which in my opinion is the best project Zombie ever was involved in.

  • White Zombie. I forget what song. Definitley White Zombie though.

  • I remember when Erik & I cut that video. He is one of the greatest grappling technicians on Earth.

  • holy shit, did the fight professor just comment on one of my videos?

hope no one minds me putting it up here? i got it from a technique tape.

  • I believe he did. Congrats :).

Bas + The Fight Professor still can't be beat.

  • truer words were never spoken nor typed

  • Very good mma fighter

  • the finest techniques ever....

  • Really cool guy, very skilled and experienced trainer!

Come and check out his MMA School in Fullerton, SoCal

  • Hi mate,

I'm coming to L.A from England in Sept for a couple of weeks, I'd love to train in class with Erik, does he still teach classes there and how much is it? Just from seeing his vids I rate him as one of the top three trainers ever!

    Cheers

    Paul

  • anyone know the song name?

  • Nice vid! I truly consider Erik to be one of the unsung heroes of martial arts in our time... not only for his accomplishments in MMA and unique expertise in all the grappling/submission arts, but for his encyclopedic knowledge of martial arts in general. He was also a very accomplished MMA fighter before it became popular.

I had the privilege of training under him a bit back when he taught at the Inosanto Academy. I'd still train with him if his school was closer.

  • grande erik

  • oh yeah and that guy doing demos with him at the end in a red gi top, I cant remember his name but he was a stunt double for brandon lee in the crow....FYI....

  • Chad Stahelski, an old friend of mine

  • I was learning muay thai and shootfighting from a friend of paulsons in Palm springs for a year. Finally moved to OC, went to the little shit hole gym paulson had a few years ago and expected to meet this bad ass mean guy, and he was SO cool. haha...so nice. I mean..it was off. I also watched him tap out a MONSTER of a man wrestling and he helped my roundkick in about 5 minutes. Stunts, Muay thai, shoot fight, kali, JKD, Judo, BJJ, Boxing etc etc. he does it all....well

  • who were you learning from in Palm Springs?

  • Guy named Chris. Its been years and Im ashamed I cant remember his last name.

He runs Desert kung fu out of cathedral city now I think.

  • his name is Chris Arnold. He is one of my very best friends.

  • Yeah he would remember me. Im ERIC the guy kickboxing in Japan. I lived in his old gym for several weeks when I was training and homeless.

  • I went to his gym in Fullerton and this is the coolest and most dangerous man you ever meet. I was amazed at everything he was doing. I rather have this guy with me in a fight than anyone else in the world. Bad ass guy.

  • This guy trained MMA fighters such as Josh Barnett, Ken Shamrock, Cub Swanson & Ginelle Marquez and what I hear is closely affiliated with Sean Sherk & Brock Lesnar.

  • Paulson is a legend. As a fighter and coach. Not to mention a world class guy. His fighting system is technical and practical. I highly recommend incorporating his leg locks and defense to any BJJ portfolio.

  • Wow, the fact that you say that shows that you know nothing of fighting. He could most likely absolutely destroy you or anyone you know.

  • you idiot, thats part of fighting.

If you don't want to get hurt on the ground, DONT END UP ON THE GROUND.

  • HE RULEZ MAN HE RULEZ

  • great highlight video, he is a taugh guy

  • right tool bag erik owns and hes a world class coach.

  • owning thats what he teaches and guy with the sucks comment he would have you sucking your own balls but you might like that????

  • Why? Care to explain.

  • well i thnk he u shud bak in the ring or at list some of his student reperesent him in MMA

  • he just came off a win like 2 months ago....

  • Erik Paulson and Jeff Ford who won

  • Eric Paulson won in Round 1 1:44 Sec by arm bar

  • Thanks for letting us know. Eric Paulson was a great fighter in his day, and I hear an amazing coach now. Good luck Mr. Paulson. I knew you'd still have some fire left!

  • Erik fighting again!!! OCT 13TH go to his website or the show website hdnetfights dot com

  • Eric Paulson with long hair, first time I saw him fight was World Combat Championship, he chose to have his hair bunned at the back, he should of had it skull platted, he lost the fight cuz sum asshole just wrapped his hand in his hair when it came loose an a kept striking him with is other hand, since then Paulson opts for the skinhead look, just should of gone for skull brades. As a fighter, Amazing!

  • What a bad ass. True MMA.

  • Great fighter, great highlight.

  • one of the all time greats, and an excellent teacher to boot

  • Paulson has some great technique clips as well here on youtube. He especially seems to be quite a leglock master!

  • I'm luvin the white zombie right now! :headbangin:

  • aweome jkd fighter mma pioner

  • Awesome, I hadn't seen this in a while. Erik is an American MMA pioneer.

  • Love the ending! Erik is always cracking jokes throughout practice. But then he kicks your ass. I guess it can be viewed as "balance".

  • good ish
