I find it odd no one wants to tell the mileage of this gas motor in 2500 HD. Bought one and not towing first tank go 13.9 (sucks) going 70. Towing is terrible pulling a 20 ft enclosed trailer got 8.4 best out of a tank
@vrgoodwin wow that SUCKS bigtime. I say trade it in for a 1500 5.3 or 4.8 or get a Ford F150. the new ones are claimed to be able to tow over 11,000.
they get diesel for power and towing, this truck in a diesel has a wider weight range for towing than a gas one does not only that but the mileage you get with a diesel pretty much stays the same when towing or pulling something
If you're living in the San Diego or Escondido areas, check out Quality Chevy Work Trucks to get some great deals on 2009 Silverado 2500HD's... they have them going for only $30,545.00! I thought that was a pretty sweet deal!
Yeah, those too.But we can always buy these engines, pull the old one out,and put the new one of our choise in.Oh well,I like 6.0l Vortec but as for Duramax, ummmmm NO
Yeah thats true, all those stupid fucks and their "Global Warming" crap got to their retarded heads to start making a "Greener" diesel engine. They are all true idiots, diesel engines get better milage and plus they can run on fucking vegtable oil,I say ya cant get any more green ass than that...
Because they sold detroit diesels to chrysler shame really they had a great motor in them but I personally think chrysler has ruined detroit it was much better when gm owned them and they could have had a kick butt combo of engine to transmission deal.
I think they should double check their writing,I've never seen/herd a Chevy truck after 1997 with a 454 engine in it.Not unless somone put a 454 in it.
Yeah, man they went to the MPFI version in 96, I've seen plenty of 96-98 C/K trucks with the MPFI 454 on Ebay Motors, the MPFI version makes 30 more stock horsepower than the TBI ones.
The L31 (aka Vortec 5700) wasn't available any model year before 1996. It was the very last variant of the small block 5.7, which dated back to the 50's. Damn good motor.
I'm a Chevy fan, but these trucks are so ugly and freaking bulky its not even funny.

diesels are great until something breaks on them and your shelling out twice as much money for parts as a gas motor.

I've never liked the new Silverado's styling much. The Sierra is pretty sweet.

I think the 454 lasted until 1998 or 2000 w/ MPFI.
pickupman1995 2 years ago
No,its was 1996 when GM quit using the 454 in their trucks.Chevy started using the 350 Vortec and the 5.7l Vortec in 1997
ChevroletBowtie 2 years ago
Wikipidea says, word for word, that GM continued to use the 7.4 L (454 cu in) in their truck line, introducing a new Vortec 7400 version in 1996

I have a good friend that has a 2000 sierra classic (old body style) 2500 with the 7.4 Vortec. Bought it off the local GMC dealer brand new.
ChryslerVans 2 years ago
The 5.7 Vortec was introduced in 1995. In 1995 they had the Throttle - Body and the Vortec. They went to Vortec only in 1996.
