this is absolutely my daily experience with iOS4 on a 3g. Completely restoring to factory settings made it a bit faster again (so I recommend doing that) but it's still a lag-fest.

I jailbreaked my 3G and removed the shadows for the home screen icons, stopped all spotlight searches and voila, it runs somewhat like a charm. At least not as bad as my HTC Touch running it's own native OS Windows Mobile 6 and 6.1. The touch was a bad joke, Win Mo 6.5 which is the iOS 3 equivalent chokes up the entire phone. At least I have my iPhone 4 bought last year to tide me through iOS 5.

this is true. i have an ipod touch 2g, when i updated it to ios 4 from ios 3.1 i noticed a decrease of the speed. when i updated to ios 4.1 the speed increased, and now with ios 4.2 my ipod touch 2g it's fast as it was with ios 3.1. but ipod touch 2g has a 532 mhz processor, when the iphone 3g has, as ipod touch 1g and iphone edge, a 414 mhz processor, so the iphone 3g can't be fast as ipod touch 2g. i also noticed a lower performance of angry birds and fruit ninja on my friends' 3g iphones.

That's why you upgrade the firmware. My 3G iPhone also sucked on 4.0 until 4.2.1 came out, and things went alot faster. Also, What you can do to make it faster is to jailbreak it, remove launch daemons and language packs, and turn off SpotLight. I just dumped it for the iPhone 4

@besto1111 So your SIM doesn't work now? If so, you have nothing to loose if upgrading to 4.1. There are Jailbreaks for 4.1, but I don't think there are unlocks yet.

It is slow, because of iOS4. Upgrading to 4.1 increases the speed slightly, but i recomend upgrading iTunes to 10.1 and find the 4.2 firmware for your iphone. It will be much (MUCH) faster :)
