Does anybody happen to know where Swan Brooner used to live when the Living Dolls was filmed? I know she lived in Cape Coral Florida, but I would like to know the address or at least the street...I know she doesn´t live there anymore so I think it is appropriate to ask.
Well with her pushy mum out of the way she can be happy. I know how that sounds I don't mean it in a mean way but... She deserved a childhood, not to be pimped.
i dont think her mom was bad for pushing her to be the best she meant it in a good way and the reason for her mom giving her the barbie car was not because she agreed to do the pageants but because she got a reward everytime she did good in one.and its not like swan hated doin pageants in fact she once started crying for supposely forgetting her routine wen she didnt hav one.so that must mean that the pageant stuff was just as important for her as it was for her mother.
Child Pageants are no different than putting small children in very competitive sports, telelvision, broadway etc. My daughter did pageants from the time she was 6 months until she was 9. And although she didn't always LOVE practicing and having to get dressed up, she did love being on stage and performing. Now she is a very well rounded, and extremely confident 16 year old with a solid start in the music industry. The key is stopping them when you can tell your child is no longer liking it.
Robin's the one who died (suddenly) of a heart attack. Swan's dad died of cancer a few years later. I remember the day Robin died, everyone in pageants was in shock. That was around the time we lost Ms Angie, too. Sad year :(
I guess we don't know for sure if she did or did not liked to be that way...
But for all I know, it's not healthy for a child that age to be wearing that much make-up, fake tans or even fake teeth! Not to imagine the "brainwash" they get from it!
I know for sure, if my child wants to be a part in all that, that's her choice, but if she doesn't come with that idea, I will do whatever it takes to keep her off the make-up as long as possible! (sure there comes a time when I have to accept)
Don't know what it is about Swan that makes her so addictive.. I think it's that innocence and desire to make her mummy happy.. Just seemed like such a sweet girl. Hope she's doing well now that she is all grown up.. Thanks for putting this together.
Swan looks like she wants to do the pageants but she was only 5 at that age most kids want what their parents introduce to them and thats seems to be all her mother exposed her to. If you watch Living Dolls here on youtube, you'll see her mother screaming at her none stop about how she walks, looks a at judges, and sings ect. I'm sorry but most 5 year olds don't sing with the right tone most of the time. If she is constantly being screamed at I find it hard to believe she was truly happy!
@emcgirly1 I saw the whole documentary too, and eventhough these baby beauties scare the hell out of me with that fake tan, and loads of make-up, I loved watching Swan run around. She was so alive and smiling, and I honestly believe she loved it. Eventhough it's not a thing children should be doing. I think the mom is too hard on her, but that didn't seem to make her unhappy. What a loving child!
i know its horrible to say but i think if her parents were still alive her life would be more horrible, her mom would force her to this life. now she has a chance to have a normal childhood
@glindaisabitch A NORMAL childhood without a mother or a father ? Losing her mom at SIX, having to move accross the country to live with a father she barely knew, only to lose him too a few years later ?! Some "normal" childhood.
wow people this video was just an opinion chill, but if you're getting fired up about it it's obviously sending a powerful message about child pagents
You don't know that she didn't want to do pageants. Stop assuming it was all the mother's fault when really, maybe she did want to. And it's called STAGE make up. They don't go everywhere looking like that. So sue that she is a normal child who just likes to be on stage
omg ok one u fucking haters pagenting is not bad im in pagents and im a pagent queen and our moms dont presure us on to the stage we love what we do and u guys seroisley need to stop
Don't forget that this is a show, a lot of the expressions and even moods will be faked. I believe in letting it be up to the children what they do and don't want to do. Mothers shouldn't force their children to do anything they don't want to. I think Robin never crossed that line but at times did come close to it. Personally didn't find Living Dolls as bad as you make out. Robin was a pushy mum but I could see in Swan's face how happy she was on stage and when she won things, not faked.
pageantry is a sport just like any other competition. if your child wants to play soccer, you buy her cleats. if she wants to do pageants, you buy her a frilly dress and get her hair done. its not "taking away their childhood" to let them dress up for a little while!
@Agnieszka214 I disagree. This is a form of child abuse.
There's probably no harm in being in a pageant once in a while, but these moms are obsessed. I swear some of these moms treat the kids like show dogs:(
When I first saw the movie I was shocked at how Robin treated Swan, but then I realized she was trying to push Swan into having a better life than she had herself. Swan didn't always look happy 100% of the time but she did seem to enjoy doing them. When she worked with Shane & Michael she looked like she was having a ball. Do I think it's "ok" to do these pageant? Not really. But they happen, and I do think it can be fun.
I always loved when she sang "Where Is Love" from Oliver.
it's so disgusting!! how can u put so much make up on her face nd make her wear women's clothes nd than urselves why she was abused by a pedophile???!!
let children be children! they are the only true and pure human beings we have on earth.. let them be themselves! stop using children for entertainment (be it tv, fashion shows etc) !! just because ur world is already rotten, u must not touch their own pure and innocent world!
I think it's absolutely sick and wrong to teach tiny little girls that their appearance is the most important thing in life. Her mother forced it on her & so it's all she knew. Her mother was obsessed & should have been putting all that money into raising her kids, not dolling up Swan in hopes of getting a tiny cash prize in return for spending 10x that much. Some people are so twisted. A child should not be used as a cash cow
Every body has days they don't like doing something. She might have loved them. So i find it pointless.. I don't know much about swan, but she might be doing pageants again in alaska..?? how do u know she stopped all together?
Whether or not Swan actually liked doing pagents is not the point. Every kid who participates in a sport has days when they hate it and days when they love it, and EVERY kid loves to win a contest. The thing that made me sad about Swan's story is the way her mother treated her. If you watch the documentary, Swan's mom is constantly yelling at her and criticizing her. It is only AFTER Swan gets a new trainer, one who ENCOURAGES her, that she starts winning. The mom is the real problem.
Its sick because every pageant show i have seen on tv and cable when the interviewer ask the girls do you really want to be here do you really want to do pageants , the first thing they do before they anwer is look at ttheir moms. Like to ask them what should i say because they cant say no.
Please! These sad photos are taken completely out of context! Swan's mother did the beauty pageants for her daughter to occupy her and try to give her a better life. You can see that Swan loved the pageants, and she won! Her tragic life aside, she was good at the beauty pageants and u can see from the pic at the end that she grew up to be happy and healthy, and in the end, isn't that all that matters?
i feel sooo bad 4 this girl.she was beautiful,so her mom decided to tht for her.she probaly always won,but wehn all the tragdedy happened .she waz probaly left heartbroken!!!!!!!!!!! SWAN GIVE IT UR BEST SHOT U WERE SO PRETTY AND I BET U STILL ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (:
on 1:17, she was doing some talent competition for the pageant, she wasnt trying to put a happy face for the camera, she was doing some kind of dance up on stage. and on the sad pictures of her... maybe shes just nervous? because maybe she wants to win o_O thats the way i felt ours before my pageant ;o
i think that beauty pageants are amazing ;o the children get to go up onstage and give it their best shot which could possibly make them a princessfor once, i had my first pageant about 4 months ago and i was so scared that i wouldnt win, but i did, i think beauty pageants are an amazing experience for children (:
Child beauty pageants are only as evil as the parent lets them be. If your kid has other activities amd they aren't bent on being the most beautiful and only do these things as a side hobby a few times a year, who cares? It's parents who make them evil by living through their kids while doing the pageants. They are the ones who make them feel they have to be beautiful sex symbols at age 3.
i don't like this video at all! Swan was a beautiful girl. i don't know much about her and can't tell you if she liked pageants or not. but if she did then you have no right to make this video. Swan lived a very sad life with her family dying and i believe that her parents really loved her. i however can NOT tell you a lot about Swan, but can asure you that if she was like all most all pageant kids, she DID live a normal life too.
swan is a friend of mine, she is one of the most smiley sweet girls I know, I had no idea that she went though all this. I new she was a model but I didn't know any of this.
I totally agree. I personally would ban child beauty pageants. Out of an european perspective this hole "stile your kid as if it were a prostitute" - business is really sick.
i've seeen living dolls and its i feel so bad for her. her mother forces her and pushes her to do all those poses and singing.. etc.
