  • Yea, so if one wants to give it away, you have to get govt go ahead which is expensive and intrusive..our forefathers did not go through hell to create a nanny state..the law is ridiculous, period.

  • If you go to google and type in Open Air Chicken Houses for all Climates by Prince Tannat Woods, you can read the 100 year old book for free..it is really awesome..I suggest this to everyone..back east they used giant buildings with open fronts and their chickens did just fine during winter..no sicknesses & actually overall became healthier due to constant fresh air. I am in Tucson so we can't have closed in coops anyway due to the oven affect..read the book!

  • my tomatoes got attacked by white flakey lookin bugs. what are they?and how do i get rid of it.

  • @whiteti123 You can make a homemade mixture of 1/4 cup tobasco, one tablespoon dishsoap and one quart water in a spray bottle. Spray a fine mist all over the plant. This mixture is safe and kills pretty much everything it touches from my experience. Be sure not to spray this on a breezy day or you'll be choking on the pepper mist for a bit. :)

  • Hi praxxy. In one of your older videos you suggested leaving the compost tea to brew for 10 days, then in one of your later videos, you said to use it straight away. Now I'm confused. Why did you change your recommendation, and what are the advantages and disadvantages of each choice?

  • @drchessman I don't recall mentioning that the tea takes 10 days to brew. I did film a video that demonstrates how to make tea. In that video I suggest a few days. Tea can be used right away or after left to steep for a day or two. Both ways work so it's not either/or. The instant use method gives less nutrients since it hasn't had time to extract. The benifit is you can use it right away. The longer steep time's benifit is a stronger tea.

  • I had an underground bug problem once and i dunno if its quite organic or not, but i poured a decent amount of gasoline in the hole then lit it on fire lol. maybe not so safe... but i did it anyways lol.

  • @GodShrimp It might not be the safest method, but it sure is fun!

    Gas + hole = amazing fun! :)

  • You could flood the hornets but make sure you cover them.

  • How do u know it doesn't hurt the chicken?

  • @linaeable because no pressure is being applied to the leg or body. I am gentle when handling them.

  • Hah! I got a shout out in this vid :)

  • @bianconinetwork I shoulda dragged you kicking and screaming in front of the camera. :)

    ok maybe not kicking? lol

  • false, you can actually use soap and hot water. the wasps breath through their skin. this should kill them immediatly. just take 1 gall of hot water and 1 cup of dish soap. poar the mixture right down the hole.

  • Thanks re: my sis. I couldn't go there, of course couldn't sleep. Some of our best memories were my aunt & uncles farm. So when I stumbled on your videos oh well.

Kinda missed the your back up singer / dancers...some agent tell 'em they're working for chicken feed? I know corny

Keep having fun, you'll never truly get old. What's the joke about old realtors?

  • Hi Ray, when you sterilize dirt in your dutch oven, do you get any smell in the house or lingering smell/problem with the stove?

  • @barkulator Yes the smell is pretty much what I refer to as "OMG open the windows!!" I would suggest tossing the dutch oven on the propane grill and cooking it outside.

  • ahh ode to our misspent youths...you must be about my age.

During the major depression of the '30's and WWII gardening and sharing helped us survive and I gotta think it will help this time won't be any different. Back then the govt felt it was a patriotic duty. Thanks for sharing what you've learned, no doubt it helps those of us that watch.

But when my sis got sick and passed in March your easy humor helped me get through.

Any news on sale? Did you decide on the next place?

  • @luckyducky9752 I never cease to be amazed that I survived my youth. lol

ps: Sorry about your sister. :( I'm happy that I helped even a little. That makes my day. :)

pps: Still looking for a decent place and showing my home. My real estate agent warned me that this would be a frustrating and stressful period.

  • Here is a great and organic way to get rid of underground hornets: first mark the opening so you can find it at night. Second, you need a funnel and a kettle of hot boiling water. AT NIGHT go to the hole and gently place the funnel on hole and pour the hot water into the hole. It really works. I have done it several times so far.

  • Has anyone used mushroom compost? Yep what ya get is mushrooms. And fish emol. you get cats and racoons! Just thought I would throw that in. LOL Shrooms are still big here. I heard they make them and put them in truffles??? Higher society?? Pun there<< My days are well over that though I am just a dirty hippy now!

  • @robindurden4 ha ha my buddy picks truffles here in bc!

  • Ray

most of the mineral needed in the soil is in home compost, using vegetable peeling mixed in with grass cutting, torn and shreaed paper and a sprinkle of wood ash and left to rot down for a year.

In the UK we have a nasty weed (Stinging nettle) that stings you, it provides a good supply of nitrogen and other mineral to your compost.

I do collect mushroom I will try and look yours up and let you know what it is, can I see the top of the cap please.

    Fleur

  • you are one talented man with some great stories!

  • hornets are pretty bad if you get close to the nest. I had to destroy a bee nest this year =S Didn't want to but it was in a wall..anyway. hey is there some tomatoes that don't need pollination ?

  • @jihadacadien As far as I know, all tomato plants need pollination. If someone knows of some that don't, I'd love to hear about them. That would be a pretty cool variety to grow.

  • @Praxxus55712 ray i thought you would say shotgun to get rid of hornets hehe

  • @alexasite I've done that once. OMG it's amazing fun! :)

  • Soapy water will also control hornets, bees, wasps, etc. if you're looking for an organic type control. You can also just suck the up with a shop vac. I have no problem with chemicals though so whatever works.

    Regards, Gary

  • are these mushrooms ok for you to be on. mmmmmmm you surprise me every day. I enjoyed seeing your garden this year. How is the selling the house going and have you seen anymore places to buy. I actually liked thoughs videos. tell me what type of stamp, I have to give you and I will send it to you in my envoloupe.

  • @crewlla I just gave you my address.

  • 'greensand' is a great mineral suppliment to add to the garden,I use it becuse I have raised beds that I amend mainly with compost, so my beds are lacking in mineral content.

greensand can be purchased at the big box home improvement stores.

also the finer ground the mineral , the better

  • There are a lot of people out there that have there head stuck in the sand, or see the truth. The ones that see the truth ether refuse to acknowledge it, because they are afraid, or fail to do anything about it because they don't think that they can make a difference.

  • I would like to list a couple facts about Monsanto.

    - Agent Orange was manufactured by Monsanto. The Vietnamese government estimates that three million Vietnamese were exposed to these chemicals during the war, and that at least 800,000 suffer serious health problems today as a result.

    - Monsanto was heavily involved during WWII in the creation of the first nuclear bomb for the Manhattan Project via its facilities.

-Monsanto was also the creator of several attractions in Disney.

    creepy huh

  • oh ya.. I want seeds too.... i got tiny tim seeds that you may like. Not really my favorite.. My favorite so far has been my matina tomatoes as well as yellow pear no i didn't grow them but was given some from a neighbor gardener. they were so tasty. i haven't gotten any stupice (was told the stupice are very simular to the matina). nor have i gotten any from my hillbilly yet. but still growing. supposed to get cold next week tho.

  • You just made my night with your mushroom story. Good thing you don't do that anymore so you can know up from down. Um, someone once told me its bad to climb trees when you don't know up from down.

  • Wow, that's a great offer. I will definitely look forward to seed days and I will sure send you self addressed and stamped envelope.

  • @jeannamilner I'll definitely make it worth everyone's stamps. I think it's going to be alot of fun.

  • I get bee hives in the ground from time to time. when it starts to get a little dark I pour about 1 cup of gas in the hole and light it. after the initial big flame there is just a small burning flame and its interesting watching bees fly over the hole getting their wings singed and drop inside. the next day no more bees! if anyone is going to try it be careful for there WILL be a big fire plume when it is lit.

  • i bet you don't recommend picking them in seattle either hahahaha. j/k

  • @niffer58 I am shocked that I have brain cells left after my wild rollercoaster ride through youth. :)

  • that is so cool ray... i am willing to pay for the stamp just to have seeds from you.. wow.. i am looking forward on that.. by the way thats a monster aloe you have right there.. what did you put on that aloe plant, just compost tea/??? i am planning to grow aloe nextt year.

  • @alexasite I planted it in compost. They're not supposed to be able to grow in rich soil. I have no idea why this one is able to do it. It's getting freakishly huge. I think I saw it flip me off a couple times and I can't prove anything but I suspect it steals beer out of the fridge at night.

  • @Praxxus55712 LOL you know what i wish i have your talking ability hehehe you are so natural and funny as well hehe . I feel like you never run out of words to say. LOL Your plantS probably hang out outside and drink beer while you are sleeping at night. cool! LOL

  • It's true, he DOES read each and Every comment. Shrooms - - there really is no more to be said about that, sir. Have you ever thought about growing Coffee ?

  • @Lawknee yep yep! :)

Heck, you all take time to post a comment. I would be a butthead if I didn't read them. I enjoy the comments way more than anything else. :)

  • aww... i missed it... i wanted to add a question to your weekand question but i may need the answer sooner if you can... When do you pick green zebra tomato's how do you know how to pick them? thanks....

  • @niffer58 I've never grown them. HEY!! Does anyone know anything about Zebra Tomatoes??

    :)

  • Ugh.....I'm really freaking upset over this bill. Damn Monsanto wants to rule the freaking earth. I'm truly pissed off.

  • Thank you so much for the answer and taking the time to look it up Ray realy appreciate it:)! The screwed up thing about this bill is you colud get arrested for trading your surplus of pepers with someone elses surplus of peaches. hope it dosen´t affect trading seeds and plants. I´m Sorry about the headache.

  • @bmxion I think your question woke alot of people up here. THAT is pretty damn cool! :)

  • Comment removed

  • @Praxxus55712 Thanks for posting it. Your the cool one =o)!

  • you rock! I will start saving more of my seeds! Um? What are you feeding your pineapple? Soil remineralization, rock dust I swear by it!

  • @MrGabesutube I have a video concerning soil remineralization coming up very soon.

  • We got shrooms here too!!! lol By the way, you didn't say if you grew apple trees..Can you grow apples up there? In Louisiana we can grow citrus tress, but no apples

  • I love the sharing seeds idea! If I send you a stamped envelope, could you just send Rascal in it LOL! He is SOOO cute!! I love watching that dog, in your videos. Ahhh Shrooms that explains AlOT LOL! Just kidding ;-)

  • LOL my brother in law had an issue with a hornet nest recently - he poured lighterfluid in their nest and lit a match. crazy but it worked. Personally we use raid on hornet nests that are in scary locations. ~Amanda

  • The hornets, in the ground, have two holes..........an entrance hole and an exit hole. It's best to locate both. If you don't, they escape on the other side.LOL.

  • "Call the Druids to cast a spell..." Ha! :D

  • Your house is paradise. I love your property. I want 80 acres just like you. Does your roommate help you with the garden? Is he camera shy?

  • @LaoSoftware The garden is totally my hobby. Mike doesn't like being on camera. He gets like a deer in headlights. :)

  • Thanks for the answer to my tomatoes question, I wasn't sure if they were safe to eat. I did threw out a few, so now I will save the rest.

I might start a second channel called MegaPraxxus55712fan! Is that for Bruno MN?

  • @MegaShaytardfan That would be one LONG name! lol

Yep Bruno. Population 85 people or something like that.

  • I make homemade jelly out of wild picked blackberries and give them freely for Xmas presents... where do I register my infraction of the law?

  • @Rezist01: I love wild blackberries. I used to pick them during the summer when I was a kid. I stop picking berries when a grizzly bear chase me down a hill. It turns out they like to eat wild blackberries too.

  • @Rezist01 Register here. Just leave the jelly and someone will contact you.

*grabs a spoon and some toast*

  • @Praxxus55712 lol - yeh just like back in the day when people had to ask priests wat the could and "could not" eat

  • @bmxion I can't say that I agree with the legislation. I never enjoyed being told what I can and cannot do. I can understand why the government does some things. It doesn't mean I agree with it. I'm really pretty much on the side of being left alone as much as possible by my government.

  • @Praxxus55712 Yes I understand and appreciate your opinion. It calmed me down:). I saw some scary videos about it on youtube. I would never consent to authorize my goverment to do someting like that. To give food to someone?! - I´m not braking a real law I´m not hurting anyone nor am I breaking the paece - It´s just a bill AND they need my consent to have any authority over me what so ever. If I remember that they have to remember that.

  • The government is contemplating on or passing some strange new laws lately. A few years ago they have given states the ability to place water rights so that some people can't even collect rain water. One would need to get a permit to collect rainwater. In these states you need a permit you to do so.

  • Can you make a video of you growing shrooms, i want to try them now :P

  • Do you play World of Warcraft. cause i never heard the term druid, outside of the game ;P

  • good vid ray... keep it up..

  • Thanks for answering my question.

  • Ok, so something weird has happened in my garden this year, and I'm wondering if anyone's ever heard of it.

So, I planted my tomato transplants in my garden, and the peas, beans etc. way back in May (just after our frost date), and they didn't grow. Like, seriously, nada. I gave everything up for dead until August when everything (flowers, veggies, shrubs) just started growing all of a sudden.

From a weather standpoint, we've had an amazing growing season. Ideas?

  • the 510 is DANGEROUS it's about CONTROL. How about letting HUMAN BEINGS decide which places they are comfortable buying their food and taking some responsibility for their own actions.

    MONSANTOS is behind everything.

    PS.

Praxxus we grow Peach trees here in Norther NY where the weather and altitude is prolly similar to you - I'll find out what strains we have.

    -TEW

  • Little tiny creatures that can KILL YOU!!! ROFL

Show me one article of DEATH BY HORNETS!!! :-D

    -TEW

  • @bookhound63 you're so naive......hahahaha

  • Well, you could have called some Druids over.

    *rolls eyes*

  • Hi Ray, I used to live in Seattle too. But the cloudy weather got to me. Anyway, I have a weekend edition question: What is the best way to get maximum production out of Thai chilies? Thanks... good videos

  • Comment removed

  • that bill 510 is about control think about it they could say ur food and this is more laws 510 is a joke the big food company's dont care about us. and there is a executive order that was passed that said gardens and canning is hoarding

  • u reckon u might be brusing those madders?? ty

  • @crosspecans I was picking them for freezing.

  • I love the heirloom give away Ray : ) It would be cool to have an exchange hub ... but it seems that could get gnarly complicated lol. I'm going to send in, sure am going to send some seeds when I do if I have any you want.

  • There are vids on YouTube about planting fruit tree's from seed. Basically you crack the shell, pull out the nut, put it in a damp paper towel in a zip lock bag on a sunny window sill for about 3 weeks until it sprouts, then plant it. You can also just bury the seed 2 or 3 inches down, but that's a lot less predictable.

  • the shroom story reminds me of ur mention about how u learned to top off ur tomato plants & make them fuller **devilish snickerz**

  • @TABULOUS1 Olde potheads never die...............they just end up doing organic gardening videos on Youtube. :)

  • @bookhound63 Disagreeing is perfectly fine with me. Calling me or any other person naive for their personal opinion or understanding is negative. Negativity is not something that is allowed anywhere on my channel. This is how I choose to maintain my channel. Feel 100% free to speak your opinion, but not while belittling me for mine. Ok?

  • Orange Mushroom with spots, Fly Amanita, one of the most deadly poisonous things there is. I'm not being dramatic. I'd look it up for a good ID & you may want to get rid of them.

The law you were talking about, not only affects individuals but it makes costs so high small organic farmers say it will put them out of business. I won't go into my theories on why it was imposed, but a lot of small business is being smashed & it seems deliberate. I spend a lot of time on that stuff, couple decades

  • @omegahpla I wasn't on your channel page before when I commented on the Mushroom, can't tell from the picture if it was an Amanita. It would have spots & what they call a death cup, a white skirt on the trunk.

  • I like your videos, but you are naive if you think these new regulations won't hurt people who want to live off the land.

Oh Good grief! How hard would it be to trace contaminated food back to a roadside stand or a Farmers Market? Its not like they are shipping it across the country. Are local buyers going to forget where we bought it? "Uhmm, It was somewhere 'round here".

Are we that stupid? Do we need a Nanny state that much? Look at what they are really doing!

  • @bookhound63 Please refrain from negative comments towards me or anybody else on this channel. You are entitled to your opinion, but you will not call anybody names for theirs.

  • @bookhound63 I'm in to this, but this isn't the place for it. Please respect Praxxus' place and let it be about gardening and dancing in the sun & all that.

  • You are sooo funny! lol...I just love your videos..u are a cutie. =)

  • You can use Azomite, New Jersey Green Sand, Glacial Rock by GaiaGreen from

B.C. Canada. See internet for further info. See also EBay/Amazon.com also sells and has info. All of these are in rock dust form. This is the best for vermi/worm composters/bins as used as grit....man what this does for your vegi garden, as worm tea. Either way your garden will explode.... Try it you regret it.

  • @slvmnr Thanks, I'm aware of Azomite and even tried to buy some. It's a long story about how I failed at buying several bags. I'll check out the others. I learned a lot from gardening this year, next year will be awesome. The garden crapped out at the end of the year with the Mel's mix suggested for square foot gardening (1/3 compost, 1/3 peat moss, 1/3 vermiculite) that I realized that something was missing. Next year, my garden will explode:)

  • @slvmnr PS. I went into super shopper mode and bought all three online just now. I'm going to try to grow a few things indoors during the winter so we'll see what happens:)

  • man, you are really fun to watch, you are soooooo funny.

  • I see you have a telescope, do u like stargazing? I love looking at the stars, mostly in the fall and winter. Don't know why...... just do.

  • i would love to trade heirlooms for heilooms

  • wooooot! you rock better than tomatoes!

  • That's awesome, thank you for wanting to give seeds.

  • the double window is now the tipical (y) window.... play wow with me!

  • Soil Remineralization google Rock dust, or Crusher dust, Azomite is a way to mineralization. Look up rock dust on youtube, and you will be amazed at what you see, This is the first year of doing it I have found my kale lasts longer. It is a great additve if you use airated compost tea. I use volcanic dust to feed my earth worms so that the microbes makes beter fertilizer for my plants. Ya I am way out there :-)

  • @marthale7 Thanks, my garden crapped out at the end of the year even with fish fertilizer and worm compost so I've been looking for what was missing. I purchased some Azomite, greensand and glacial rock to experiment with. Keep being way out there, it's the only way to be:)

  • @rayme4raw have you tried getting your soil tested through your county extension office or a kit? Did it years back and it tested as to acidic and too much of some sort of mineral. =D

  • @haikuoflife Thanks, that's a good suggestion. I grew everything in either pots or raised beds because I live in a newer subdivision. The developers scrapped all the good top soil off and took it away, leaving behind one inch of topsoil to grow grass on. I'm renting for now, but seriously, what idiot pays $300,000 for a house and a yard with no top soil? I will be buying an acre or two next year so I will definitely do a soil test. Thanks!

  • @rayme4raw: I don't know anything about topsoil. But it must be nice to own some land. I would love to have 5 acres. I would use that to grow my own food. Then I would install solar panels on my roof so I can get free energy from the sun. My dream is to be self-sufficient and retire early so I can enjoy life to the fullest. Do you enjoy working 40 hours a week for 50 years of your life? Not me.

  • @OS253 No, I've lost faith that a job will get me anywhere. I've been working for the last 24 years and the nature of corporations is destroying the American Dream. Permiculture and becoming self sufficient is the way to go in the future.
