@xhunter628x I use a poly verathaine spray which protects the fossils from degenerating. You also can use white glue with water to get the same results. They do not hurt the fossil or decrease the value and actually keep the fossil in better shape than if nothing was added. Both of these additions can be easily removed if wanted and the fossil will be returned to how it was first found. The teeth usually lose their original color when first found so adding the sealer just keeps that nice color.
Can anyone go collecting there? I live in Santa Barbara and there isn't much of anything around here. I love stones and fossils. They are my passion. I just wish I had a place around here to hunt. Anyways I would be more then willing to take a trip. Haha love your collection. It is awsome!!!!
@scarekr0w1 Yes anyone can go there. Try one of the museum digs for the best results for shark teeth and fossils, and try Ant hill, sheep hill areas also. For the S.B. area try the beaches north of you at low tide for agates and petrified whale bone. Also check shale outcrops for fish fossils and the like. Jalama beach is very good also. Winter after a storm is the best but you will find some now also. Good luck. Big Eagle
@NightRavenz78 Actually most of my finds are from the Ant hill and sheep hill areas. Secondly from Pyramid hill, and sharktooth hill via the museum . I find the most colorful teeth/fossils have come from the Ant hill/ sheep hill areas. The best and easiest digging is through the museum pay digs which they are having this weekend. I would say 4/5 of my collection is from Ant Hill from about 12 years to present. Good luck!
13 MEGALODON TEETH! Wow! I only have a small 3 inch one and a fragment. But 13! You found all of those?! Nice Collection! I only have a small one. Check out my vid you want! ;)
@wolfeh103 All of the items in the display case were found by me. The Megs all come from Bakersfield Ant hill area. All told about 12 years of digging. Keep looking you will find a big one with time. Good luck!!!!
@barnett256 That is a molar from the Desmostylus which is a hippo like creature about 6 feet long and weighed about 440lbs. The single tooth is made up of columns of dentine surrounded by thick enamel. The red tooth next to it is from a Paleoparadoxia which is related to the Desmostylus but a much rarer find. Both teeth were found at Ant Hill in Bakersfield, both are rare finds there.
Impressive collection ... the colors make them seem older compared to the solid black fossils here in south georgia. The benedini's are neat .. I've managed to find about seven nice ones in three years of looking through dredge material. save some teeth for me :)
@barnett256 Thank you, it took a lot of digging to find these. You dig in different spots for different color teeth. The Benedini's are much rarer in Bakersfield, in 14 years I found 2 and most people havent found 1. If you ever come out I can give you tips where too look for some good teeth. Most of these came from Ant Hill which has the beautiful colors. Good luck
@killeroftheroad1 If you ever come to California, send me a line and I can show you where to dig. It is called Sharktooth hill in Bakersfield, California. Lots of nice colored teeth! Megs,Benedini, Mako, Tiger, Snaggletooth sharks, and lots of other different mammal fossils.
@jdssurf I take most of my fossils that I have collected and soak in water for about 1 hour then clean with a nylon brush, and use a dental pick to try and remove the matrix thats stuck on the fossil. Also a dremel is very handy in removing hard materials. Some fossils you cannot remove much because you can destroy the fossil.
@100bgeagle thank you very much. Ive spent a lot of my life hiking and biking these areas but Im new to finding fossils. I am very respectable and would love to know some better spotts if you could help me. Ive been going to the spots accross from CALM, is their better places I can go without causing trouble. If you can help then thanks a lot bud. Its just a very rewarding time to be out their but if you dont find anything it can be kind of drab. Ive been going in this heat though lol.
@jdssurf The valley behind the hill is pretty good, look at the top of the hill and around the back into the valley and across the other hill; pretty hot now, I wait till fall
its just too hot for me. Also try the hill across from the soccer field and remember the layer ius only about 18" thick so you want to be on the layer or just above or below usually for the fossils.
@100bgeagle I thank you for your time. I did find some in the soccer area. In the orange rusty dirt below the gray stuff I found the bigger ones and the smaller ones in the gray. It is indeed very warm lol but Im single and trying to stay busy without blowing money for a while so I needed something like this for a bit. Im 35 and just always loved this type of stuff, just never had anyone show me this until recent.Wish I would have know, I dont think I will ever get the large and nice ones you do
wow, very nice collection. I'm only about one hour from bakersfield but never been to shark tooth hill. planning on it eventually right now hooked on meteorite hunting .
Very impressive.... I was just out there at THE HILL yesterday and found a few things of interest. Will be going back all thru the summer with high hopes of finding that elusive megledon. DS
I have a legal pre-ban 25 year old great white tooth. :) Your teeth look lovely! Are they all fossils?
I have a megalodon tooth as well, it's in a very nice condition, grey-ish/black. :) It's up for trade, actually.

did you shine them up to look better?, because that can decrease the value.
