With just a LE heads and cam set up it now runs a consistent 11.20 @119 mph. A bolt on TPI with "opened exhaust" would never hardly get into the low 14's. I ran door to door with an 88 IROC 350 in the 1/8th in a 66 Chevy w/a 230 inline 6 with three on the tree...that's door 2 door...sport.
@LT1HILLINGHOE Stop being ignorant. A Bolt on TPI that means Ported TPI, Stock Heads, 1.6 Rockers, Stock Cam, Exhaust, and a Personal tune ran 14.24s here locally. 90 Iroc if that matters. He then slapped on a set of Brodix heads and went high 13s. L98s can be made fast just like any other SBC or even LT1. Just have to remember the limits of the stock heads and TPI. How do I know? Because I modded a L98 before swapping in my LT1.

That IROC was slow getting off the line, I had an IROC and let me tell y'all, it's not even about the motor being a 305, it's the 4 speed 700R4 automatic transmission and that almost 300 lbs ft. of torque that got them IROC's down the road!, the IROC needs a driver, that's about it
@GetsumJ You're right, the 305 was RPO coded LG4, which was referred to as the "standard" V8, the H.O. was the L69 305, the 305 with Tuned Port Injection was RPO code LB9, not L69, the L69 305 was the H.O. with the dual cold start heat stoves on both exhaust manifolds that warmed up the choke on the Q-Jet, with the dual snorkel air cleaner with the "5.0L H.O." emblem on it, then in 86-87 the L98 350 with Tuned Port Injection was offered as an option, the L98 350 came as a "1LE" option too.
@camarotoro if I'm not mistaken, they only made those numbers when they started dropping in ls1s. an early 90s and even late 90s z28 would probably only make 275-295 hp

You all need to do some research. An 88 IROC-Z has a L98 in it. Same as the GTA. I would know, I own one. Also, a LT1 does not stand a chance vs. a LS1. The LT1 I'd cast iron, like the L98. An LS1 is am aluminum block making it much lighter.

@ronbunch1 And Ford answered with the '03 Cobra UNDER RATED at 390/390. They actually produced around 420hp. My '03 Cobra with MINOR mods ROUTINELY shows its heels to '10 SS Camaros. While it is true I am a Mustang guy, I love the camaors too. My only point being......don't judge Ford by the 99 Cobra. They had a design flaw, and they made up for it in spades.

I owned a 86 Iroc TPI 350....my buddies 5 liter smoked me every time..his stang was stock and I had a couple bolt ons...I sold it and bought a stang and had them ever since...so i know how them cars run..they were fast in 1986.....nuff said.

@SuperDevib I can tell you are one of those guys and we would just argue back and forth over and over but just some stats for ya......89 IROC TPI 350 runs 10.2 eigth and 15.5 quarter bone stock....my wifes SEL V6 Fusion ran a 9.40 eighth and 14.6 quarter...so stock for stock lol laugh its true.....bring me a stock IROC even with some exhaust is fine and I will clean its doors off in my wifes car.....we wont even talk about my stang because now Im hitting low 12's normally aspirated....

@dalemllns My 88 formula WS6 L98 350/700R4 ran a lot quicker than that!! with only edelbrock tes headers,flowmaster catback,k&n filter ran 8.40s eighth mile..not blazing considering my LT1 z/28 ran that when it was stock but still very quick street car...but not all TPI 350's we're L98's
