  • Is it unnormal to listen to this when you are 17 soon 18? Btw screw your opinions I'm me and I love it! :D

  • Tommy's has strength, Michael's has passion, and Josh's...can't really compare. But all three are sang beautifully, it's just Tom's and Mike's has something extra....they are not just singing, but telling a story...I just get singing from Groban

  • I like both josh and his version, nice to appreciate both:)

  • MrLima0212...so well put!

  • Suck on that Groban!

  • This song always brings a tear to my eye. Such an amazing song. And Tommy K is a truly special singer.

  • Saw tommy in the original 'Chess'. Amazing.

  • wow.... ") hehe can't compare to any.... maybe the background is the best /orchestra cool!!! classical!!

  • Поразительно, что шведы учат нас, как любить Родину в этой песне. И я надеюсь, мы способны учиться и любить так.

    Великолепный гимн!

  • @spitalli I couldn't agree more. This song makes me fall in love with Russia every time.

  • @danengs Взаимно, я очень люблю Швецию, и думаю весь мюзикл Шахматы великолепен , от начала до конца, умный и душевный.

    Спасибо!

  • @spitalli Cпасибо! Tack!

  • wow !!! - Josh, you will never get even close to this guy, never !

  • Sooo good!

  • I'm claiming responsibility for at least half of the views on this video...

  • It is performed in Denmark, at the National Stadium in football (soccer), Parken in Copenhagen :)

  • Vilken kille!

  • beautiful

  • There's an even better version with Mr Körberg posted by xtremesenda

  • @MrT115 It's the one from 1989 I meant

  • Always loved this song - he has an awesome voice. I recently listened to this version: Tommy Körberg From Chess - Anthem (I Mitt Hjärtas Land) - Beautiful!

  • Tommy Körberg just beat every other singer with 1000-0.

  • im going to buy Tommy a new suit...

  • @o0V80o

you dont need to, considering this was 20 years ago lol :p

  • AMAZING. Just AMAZING!!!

  • Does anybody know who was the original person to sing Anthem in Chess? (like, original cast)

  • @Dirschbag yes, it was tommy körberg. he was cast first, recorded it first and performed it first… and in my opinion he is by far the best performer of this song

  • God bless you Tommy, you're probably one of the greatest vocalists in the world!! May God ride with you... 10 - 4

  • 8 Dislikes? What the..? This is my absolute favourite song of all times, especially with Tommy, no doubdt.

  • Jai McDowall brought me here!

  • @PokerFAN999

    Jai's version was better

  • Really beautiful

  • I have seen the versions... Ball, Groban, etc. I am fans of them in other contexts. But Körberg completely owns this song... espically at the end, he is just unmatched in the level of emotion and how he extends the notes.

  • Damn those Andesson/Ulvaeus. They really know how to put notes one after the other! And the dot above the i is Tommy Körberg's amazing voice.

  • Denne sang og Stad i ljus giver mig kuldegysninger gennem hele kroppen.

Hvor ville jeg gerne opleve ham på en scene.

  • A tad poppy, but really beautiful.

  • There's no vibrancy on the top notes, sounds flat as a tack. Not too bad but not quite as good as the Warlow version and streaks ahead of the Groban one.

  • @Cole123456969 He nailed that note. It did not sound flat at all I am very impressed with this videoo

  • Seven People do not like singing Swedes with nice voices.

  • This is tommy's best performance of this song...even better than the studioversion in my opinion! Stolt svensk :)

  • My Good!

This is the best! A great and wonderfull Mr. Körberg, a wonderfull orchestre, a wonderfull Maestro David Firmann, and of course a fantastic Anthem by Andersson/Ulvaeus. Thank You!!!

  • Wow! I always loved the recorded version, but it's even more powerful live. I'd pay the full ticket price to hear him sing just this song with an orchestra. There's power, feeling, precision, tone - amazing...

  • This lyrics really makes me think about The Earth and the Native Americans... :/

  • The power in this mans voice is simply staggering. Josh Groban did a really good performance...but this is....mein gott....simply awesome!

  • ommy Körberg has never taken a singing lesson.

He is a pure natural talent.

  • Amazing

  • @UltimateRomo Well u couldn't be moore wrong i guess. Josh Grobans version of this song is awfull.

  • @Bearn78 alright I am ok with you thinking that this guys version is better than groban... but if you were truly say that groban version was "awfull" you must be tone deaf that man hits all the note perfectly. I mean come on

  • @UltimateRomo Sure, Groban had/has good technical skills but add feeling and you get Tommy Körbergs version. To me, Groban was just a man singing a song and he tried more to hit the notes and pronounce the words than to sing with passion. This version will always be the best in my opinion.

  • @henkekhan2000 look like I said, they both SANG it the same. Tommy Körbergs acted it better. But I am still a fan of both I just love the song.

  • @jojozvideoz Josh Groban is good in his own right, but he hasn't got ANYTHING to compete with Körberg on this song.

  • beautiful song preformed in a way only he can

  • This is respect, pure respect for prob the best male singer ever from Scandinavia...

  • @aketrak Jussi Björling is commonly accepted as the best one, but Tommy Körberg isn't far off.

  • There are not many singers like Tommy Körberg.

  • Tommy Körberg äger !

  • FLAWLESS

  • If you doubt him being the original singer of the song in the original Chess musical, search for "Anthem (Recording Season 1983)" here on youtube...

  • Tommy is spine-tinglingly fantastic! Inever tire of listening to this. Magical!

  • @RuthAuntie

Then you'll probably like this too, fairly rare clip:

Tommy Körberg & Sissel Kyrkjebø - Endgame (chess)

    watch?v=BydBPiFzORk

  • absolutely flawless... <3

  • One of the most flawless vocal performances I've seen. Gotta love Körberg, I'm proud to be a swede when we have this wonderful man in our arsenal. =)

  • very good version, maybe the best, me like, me gusta, ihana, underbart

  • I have replayed this so many times... it's unhealthy, but it's so satisfying.

  • How I wish I could go back in time and see Chess with the original cast!

  • This is the greatest performance of this song. However, Korberg is inconsistent. His Itunes version is terrible in my opinion but then he also busts out this. Confused.

  • @therealgigglebop

He is said to never reherse before a performance..... could be why

  • THis is THE definitive version, in my view and just thrilling. His voice is extraordinary. He is a master with this song and he understands the words and the context better than anyone. Groban has nice voice, but no clue what he is singing about. Same with David Carroll (very weak, phrasing is just awful). All others just don't understand what they are singing about. Enjoy and share with others.

  • abba sweden rules

  • he is the only one who can sing this song. PERFECT!!! Greatings from Norway :)

  • This is the video. Youtube won't let me post it.

    watch?v=BHwFDBXsm94

  • Så d***la bra!

  • Helvete, helvete, helveetteee....va jävla kung han är!

  • Would have loved to hear Jussi Björling take on this :D

  • @solbergsindre: If Jussi Björling sang this one even Tommys version would sound ordinary...Tommys voice is unbeatable by other musical singers I.M.O. but Jussi The Tenor of tenors.....if he sung this one it would be close to divine!!! (The ever biggest respect to Mr Tommy Körberg but Jussi voice is beyond comparison you can here the differnce when they sing Oh Holy Night in swedish: Oh Helga Natt !) / Regards

  • @MrrrMagoo It is one thing you have not taken in consideration, this song is about the pride one man feels for his country, and of his love for it. Frankly, your opinion of Jussi Björling surpassing Tommy Körberg when it comes to passion, when singing a song which is clearly meant for Körberg is nothing but an insult to Jussi Björlings performance as an outstanding *opera* singer, and to Körberg by practically saying that anyone could be better than him, if they can hit the notes perfectly.

  • @UnbelivableRealistic:

How can a comparison of the performance (despite theoretical) of Jussi singing anthem versus Tommys performace of anthem be a insult to Jussi when saying that Jussis performance would be even more remarkable than Tommys, when the song is written with Tommys voice in mind????

  • @MrrrMagoo Simply because we will never hear a rendition of Jussi singing the anthem. You cannot presume he would be fantastic when an example will never be presented. We can argue this fact over and over and still reach the conclusion that both your and my opinions, as well as everyone else, will be purely subjective with nothing to back it up. We have numerous versions of the song, some better than others, it is fair to compare those, bringing up an "hypothetical version" by Jussi is just sad.

  • @UnbelivableRealistic: "Simply because we will never hear a rendition of Jussi singing the anthem." - That is a strange answer to my question. If anything it is a Tribute to Jussi to say that he would make an even more fantastic version/rendition than Tommy, based on his repertoire, fantastic interpretations of opera arias, musicality, vocal technique etc etc.!!! An honest compliment can never be an insult, they are antonyms!

  • Tommy Korberg is so underrated! He has one of the most perfected voices in the world. Or at least had. He's starting to get old.

  • Wow. At 2:30 "where would I start". He really nails that note. Almost sharp, top string if you like. Never heard it done that way before. I have heard better versions of the whole song, but not that note. Superb.

  • @jjaus Could you explain exactly what you mean with "Almost sharp" and "top string"? I'm not arguing with you, I'm asking to learn.

Though, to me, it sounds like he is nailing the note spot on..

  • @jengerock He definitely nails the note. There is a theory in singing that a note is three strings. Bottom (very slightly flat), Middle (spot) and top (slightly sharp). He sounds slightly sharp. I am not a professional, nor do I have perfect pitch.

Here is the sublime Anthony Warlow's version. To me he slides slightly up to the note and then really nails it. Tell me what you think.

  • 2:44 one word: wow.

  • this is a very great performance from surely a great singer, but I apprecciate more Jan werner's version(i'm not norwgian) maybe because tommy doesn't get the high notes as Jan at the end, but I think that's because tommy has(as the version of josh groban, which i don'tlike) surely a great voice, but not so unique(many opera singer have similiar voice singing) as Jan's one. Isn't it?

  • Lol Josh Groban fails big time in re-do this one!

    Say only one name......TOMMY KÖRBERG!

    Thanks for this wonderful preformance!

  • How moving is this? I cross over waters but I'm still there now! I just want to cry as it's so beautiful.

I love this man and the way he sings this. Raw emotion.

Thank you so much for posting xxx

  • 2:30....

  • everyone else just pack up their stuff and go home......it dont get bettera than this.

  • "Let man's petty nations tear themselves apart"- it is sung so incredibly. A friend of mine told me he sounds better live than recorded. I must agree. In fact, it's an understatement.

  • Wow just wow, this was just beautiful.

  • I love the expression on his face @ 1:45.

Like you can tell, he is emotionally connected to this song. Amazing. Beautiful. I really don't think anyone can preform this more perfectly.

  • He (Tommy Körberg) is one of the greatest singers there ever was and will be. Furthermore he also happened to be in marvellous voice at the time for this performance.

What more can you ask for?

A great singer and in top form!

  • I am crying .......

  • Simply stunning !

My first intro to Tommy Korberg as well, and I'm in awe. Beautiful song (by the Abba guys, of course !) and sung with such passion. Those long notes near and at the end were awesome. Well done.

  • The best tone of them all!

  • sick...totally sick....wow....

  • Involuntary chills...

  • Wow! My first intro to Mr. Korberg. Where have I been? Beautiful.

  • So beautyfull!! The only times in my life where i wish i was a man is when i listen to this song!!!

  • 223 Brings a tear to my eye everytime. What amaes me is that it's like he just arrived by car, walks on stage, brings the house down, and takes off to the pub.

  • We love you all. We love Tommy whos one of the best singer in the world and we love all the people who understand underful music. Thanks Björn, Benny and Tommy. See you all.

  • fy fan va bra,,

  • Tommy! Du är oslagbar. Det är dags för en ny "världs-knäckar-låt" Måtte din röst hålla i många år till.

  • Copenhagen is in Denmark - not Sweden

  • i'm used to getting chills & shivers from great music/vocalists but this is the first time i also cried

  • there is a richness to korberg and grobans voice agreed but the range of werner is unmatched. tha twas my point

  • A wonderful version of this superb song.He sings this with great passion.I love it....Thanx for the post....

  • Tommy är helt jävla underbar!

  • Goosebumps!!! XD

  • @stephensorr

he doesnt have the voice for the song ...only two who have if you ask me ...tommy and josh (groban)

  • @n1cklass check out Anthony Warlow's version. It's my favorite.

  • Så vackert att jag ryser.

  • jeg skulle nesten ønske jeg var svensk, så jeg kunne si "Dette er vår mann,,!"

    For en mann!!

  • @baronljan

detta är vår man !!! ;P

  • @baronljan

  • perfect

  • wow!!

  • amazing version love it, what do you think of mine looking for tips :D /watch?v=TUtQXEpUNhA

  • Mr Körberg, I would so like to meet you. What a beautiful voice. Have so enjoyed listening to you, many times over now! I love how you sing!!!

  • This is in the National Arena of Denmark. Not Sweden.. The new Parken stood in 1995 as I remember it.. so this fantastic performance (Tommy forever:) must have been around there..

  • He's the best

  • helt otroligt.

  • This is a great performance from a great singer and I love the song.Very dramatic. Thanks for the post xiaoduan and thanks Tommy for the song......

  • tommy e ju helt klart bäst

  • That quality is unique! The best man ever to sing anthem

  • @EdLeamy It was his song in the fist place

  • This is the best vocal performance I've heard. Ever. Leve länge Tommy! =)

  • NO ONE sings anthem as tommy körberg, HE IS AMAZING!!

  • Beautiful song, and YES the location is in Denmark, I was to the concert, which was right after "The Deaf Olympics" had their day, in Parken . The worst part of the audio at the concert was horrible, so it is great to see the audio is much better here in the video.

  • "WHERE WOULD I STAAAART!!!" Tommy is such an amazing singer! What a performance! AMAZING!

  • The only bad thing about the song is that it's so short, it makes you want more! Tommy Körberg FOR THE WIN.

  • Mamma njuter i sin himmel när jag spelar anthem med Tommy Körberg eller Gå upp på klippan med Ulf Lundell på youtube. Gud välsigne riktiga mästare. Hell yeah! Gud säger oxå hell yeah!!

  • What a voice, Hairs standing up on the back of my neck. The welsh have a great expression for describing the feeling you get hearing music sung like this: Hwyl FAWR.

Just quickly checked out Josh Grobans version, A corpse livened up to sing music.

    Just NO Comparison.

    Tommy is AWSOME,

F@#cken Deadly as they say in Ireland ! !

  • I've grown up listening to Tommy Körberg, and I still get chill over my whole body hearing this. I've heard several other artist cover this song, but no one's ever, ever measured up to him. He's definitely one of the best singers Sweden's produced!

  • I love it when a voice like that comes out of someone so 'normal' looking.

    Brilliant and nerve tingling :-D

  • just as info the concert was in Copenhagen at our national arena for our soccer team. Accompanied by the danish tv orchestre.

  • OMG, fantastic! He makes your heart ache. Thank you so much for posting! <3

  • Goose skin. That means I loved it.

  • EPIC!<3

  • To those of you saying that this was a great interpretation: Tommy Körberg is the ORIGINAL SINGER of this song, all others are the cover artists! Ok?

  • @Knasputte7 alright, i think we all got it, calm down XD

  • @Knasputte7 Yes thats true, he is thew original singer of this song. In fact, this song was even written with Körberg in mind as the singer. Benny Andersson himself have said that.

  • @Knasputte7 You are ABSOLUTELY right. This man (Korberg) sung this song magnificently. There was no other who could interpret like him. All the others merely pale in comparison. Musicians all agree.

  • Could anyone imagine singing like this in the shower. AWESOME!

  • Better than Josh Groban's by a long shot!

  • dang

  • My God, . . ... That, WAS, . . AWSOME !

  • OMG. I thought I know this song well, but I've not heard such powerful voice and interpretation until viewing this LIVE Tommy Körberg version.

  • A thilling voice, a thrilling performance. Probably the best on you tube.

  • I really like the transition from 2:58-2:59.

  • Must be one of the most gorgeous voices on the planet. Tommy, thanks for making my day. An impossibly beautiful performance.

  • One of my most favourite songs ever! I just LOVE Tommy's voice! OUTSTANDING !!!!

  • That audience better had given him a standing ovation:). This is my favorite performance of him singing Anthem. He has so much talent. His control and power is incredible.

  • Best singer ever!!

  • The power in his voice at 2:30 is absolutely amazing. I think I've heard maybe 3 other singers have that much pure power. Truly, truly phenomenal.

  • fantastic, just fantastic!

  • ohcrap, i love chess so much

  • Awesome. I keep returning to this clip.
