But there has been i think... I think there were some mammoths, sabre-toothed cats and even aurochs up till "recently" (tho maybe aurochs are not exactly beasts.. i dunno). There are no polar bears in Europe but rather in arctic siberia, but they sure as hell are pretty hard core, maybe more hard core than both lions and tigers but hard to measure that when they all live in different environments that they all are adjusted into.
