  • great performance!! outstanding!

  • nice to hear this with the orchestra!

  • wow.

  • Great to see some Husa on Youtube. I had the pleasure of working with Karel and played the "concerto for Alto Saxophone" and "Apotheosis of this Earth" with him as the conductor back in 1991. Just a genuine man with an understanding of the wind ensemble and the saxophone!

  • Whats up Mr. R? I had no idea this was on youtube...great performance (this is Wayne...the pianist for the orchestra)

  • Haha, finally a video of this piece!! I just played this on recital Friday and about to use it for an honors tryout, man, it has taken a while to work up, but is so worth it.

The orchestral version is cool, but I still prefer the piano version slightly, which the composer made first. The Elegie is one of my favorite things EVER. You feel like Superman at the climax! =)

And my word, this is memorized?! Wow, tough! That page with the doodles I think is the hardest past. LOL! GREAT JOB!

  • It's wonderful to hear of so many folks performing Husa's music and actually enjoying it! My university wind ensemble had the opportunity to perform his "Les Couleurs Fauves" last semester and all the trumpet section could say about it is that it sounded like "garbage". Some people just never learn...

  • Thank you for the compliments, though. And congratulations on performing it! It's a really rewarding work once the practice has been achieved, and it was even more so for me since I took to painstakingly memorizing it for this concerto concert. I'm about to perform the piano reduction as part of a competition program in a few days but I have to say that there's no feeling quite like the accompaniment of a full orchestra behind you :D

  • Well, I made our Honors Recital with it! And the performance was yesterday at our last recital for all of the dept, it was so much fun. I can safely say that many of the audience had never heard Husa before and I got lots of comments on the piece!

Our clinician for our conducting symposium also mentioned having conducted the orchestra version for their young artist competition so this is definitely out there getting played. My accompanist had a blast with it!

  • That's all great to hear, gab! Congratulations on winning your Honors Recital performance, especially with a work like E&R. Any chance that I could get a recording of your performance? Or is this, perhaps, future YouTube material as well? :D

  • That was freakin awesome!!! I am a junior in highschool and I am working on this piece and I never heard a recording of it before...It is such an awesome piece and I just appreciated it much more when i saw this performance...good job..

  • I'm so glad that somebody else appreciates Husa's music while still in high school! I began working on this piece in my sophomore year of high school and, to date along with Piet Swerts's "Klonos", it's one of the only works in which I have completely invested myself mind, body, and soul. Thank you for the compliments as well! It was a blast to put together with orchestra and I'm hoping that you'll feel the same way about it no matter with whom you end up performing it.

  • You'll have to let me know how the work is going on your end. It's a tough cookie if you're not solid with leaping from register to register on the horn, but I'm sure if you're working on it in high school you must have chops out the wazoo and a very trustworthy private instructor! With whom are you studying now and in what part of the country?

  • where did you find the orchestral arrangement? i can only get it for sax + piano

  • I'm sure if you hunt around at any of the major orchestral rental web sites you can find it for your ensemble if you're planning on performing it. Alphonse Leduc publishes the piano reduction but I'm not sure if that applies for the full orchestral version. I wasn't actually the one to obtain the orchestral score and parts...that was left up to the Maestro after it was determined that I would be performing with the orchestra. Good luck searching, and thank you for watching!

  • i meant a vid of this piece.

  • absolutely amazing!

im glad you put this vid up because i think your the only person whos posted it haha

  • Thank you very much! It was certainly a blast to put together ever since I started working on it in high school with my private instructor. There is, unfortunately, a dearth of Husa's material available for listening online and even within legal downloading services. Spread the good word as to his compositional genius!
