  • I still think it is brilliant.......It will take many independent impact studies to get it to fly. They will need heavy lobbying if they want to have a chance. Its a shame to see something so intelligent get shelved due to red tape.

  • this is the type of thing that will pitt one enviromental group against another. "Not in my backyard."

  • Wow, David really shuts Louis down a lot.

  • @desertsonata

that's why it's the david packman show

  • I find this whole thing exciting. I really hope the method gets implemented and oil companies try and use this technology, rather then to ban it. I don't wanna depend on oil the rest of my life. What I'd really like would be for cold fusion to work out. Head to the beach, and just dump water into my tank lol That'd be bitchin'.

  • It takes more energy to produce these alternative energies than can be expected from the fuel itself. Oil is in everything, from toothpaste to seven gallons in every car tire. changing our fuel source won't even dent our oil dependency.

  • @miiwiiplay Kelp is also in many products including beer, ice cream, and makeup. Although, you may be right about using it as an energy source as being far from efficient.

  • @miiwiiplay "It takes more energy to produce these alternative energies"

And? That's going to be the case until it's a normal, everyday, alternative energy source. It's going to cost a lot of start up money, no one is denying that.

  • John Galt will buy out the company and take all the seaweed with him to his underground lair.

  • @NoCommentChick And then he will claim he is the sole producer of if, despite having a workforce in the hundreds working on it, and when the government raises taxes, Dagny will piss her pants at the mere thought of it.

  • We've heard this 1000's of times....in the end it's gonna take ethanol, solar, wind, nuclear, hydrogen and everything we got if we want some clean energy (and even then we will still need coal and oil for a long while), there's no magic bullet period.

  • I think they need to push the boudaries of solar energy. Electric vehicles powered from solar energy would be the best thing in my opinion. Solar energy is going to become more and more viable, It's eventually going to get to that point, but will we actually make the switch? I mean, the energy from the sun isn't going to run out any time soon, obviously, it's there for the taking. Time to capitalize. It's unviable for big oil because ANYONE could tap that power.

  • Biofuels are simply a way to keep us addicted to the internal combustion engine.

  • It might have a huge impact on the marine ecosystem, which is already overstressed.

  • @dangerouslytalented Im actually mad that after nearly 80 years we still use the same engine. By now we should have moved on to Hydrogen.

  • @biggydx Hydrogen is not a fuel source in itself, it is made from cracking water or coal or other hydrocarbons, but the energy has to come from somewhere (hydro, coal, solar or whatever).

Hydrogen is more of a storage method.

  • @dangerouslytalented What propulsion system do you suggest?

  • @biggydx Whatever is most efficient for the purpose it is used for and causes the least pollution. Hydrogen is simply another way of using fossil fuels.

It is all about efficiency, while using as little fossil fuel as possible.

  • @dangerouslytalented My expectation is that it will be a mixture.

  • We have so many scientific breakthroughs, yet people in Washington who dont even know how to use the internet dont even fund these programs and developments.
