you can keep a betta in that but you need to do fully clean the vase and substrate once or twice a week and you need to sterilize any aquarium if your all of the fish it contains die and you want to replace them
your betta died from neglect, just seeing what you put it in is enough reason to have it die so soon. They need at least 3 gallons, with clean water meaning no chlorine or ammonia buildup (which is caused by dirty,stagnant water in unfiltered bowls) it burns their fins and gills and makes lots of nasty illnesses. Bettas need warm water at least 78 F, they eat bloodworms,brine shrimp,daphnia, and hikari betta pellets. You can buy frozen foods now like bloodworms and brine shrimp, they love those.
