  • This is like Monster Trucks, or professional wrestling: it's not exactly fake or cheating but it isn't pure either. Like tomlennon1000 said 'take it for what it is'. Personally I don't get the use of all the gear but there are lots of other 'strength competitions (Olympic, WSM, Scottish, etc) that have their eccentricities but are much closer to being 'pure' or 'raw' tests of strength and TECHNIQUE than American powerlifting. It is what it is. If you don't like it: go elsewhere.

  • @killoaz100 It helps him grip the bar more tightly. Perhaps squatting weights as heavy as this it matters, but I think for most lifters it's just a mental additive.

  • WOW! that's all I can say to this. I'm a crossfitter and was a little wary when I saw this (of course I have the mindset of "must have good depth") but wow. this guy had very good depth, and 1300 pounds is a TON of weight. I weigh 180 lbs and 1RM Squat 405 lbs, and am in very good shape and think that for me personally Crossfit is the best program. However, my hat is off to this guy and good powerlifters in general. Each program is specifically aimed for different athletes, and this is SICK!

  • Leonid Taranenko claimed an 838 pound squat, which is only 64.4% as much as 1300. Seems like this one, if he's 462 pounds stronger in squat than Leonid was, should be able to do Leonid's 586 clean and jerk without good technique, just on the (alleged) brute force difference. But no way can he do it, or he already would have, because his legs aren't as strong. Playing with numbers is going on. Differences in form = real strength differences, Leonid went ass to floor and paused there.

  • @BodybuildingUniverse the green mega bands, I'd say at the top, not much. At the bottom, 200-300 lbs total.

  • How tall is this guy? The range of motion seems to be like eight inches or so. I'm sure at that much weight, that is still absurdly difficult, but I guess it just seems less impressive, especially when the suit does so much work.

  • i aint saying the dude aint strong, but it takes away from the weight of the squat when uou have the reverse bands on it...its still cool to see that much raw weight being moved, but it wasnt a true squat if the reverse bands are used.

  • @drummerdork4500 dude, thats so stupid to say that wasn't a true squat. Those green bands take off like 130-150lbs at the bottom. It's a training technique to get his CNS used to even holding the 1300 on his back, and help him to come out of the hole faster. Thats why its called a progression. It's still a damn squat. He wasn't at a meet trying to break a record. It's called training. Try it sometime.

Sure he has a little more body fat than the average powerlifter, but do you have any idea how strong and thick a person's core has to be to support 1300lbs, or even a thousand? I've actually helped him stretch during a meet before squatting. He has so much muscle, it took like 30 minutes. His core isn't fat, it's like a fucking brick wall. Don't hate just to hate. Try squatting 3 1/2 to 4 times your bodyweight, then talk your shit

One of those times was at the meet at the NMB aquatic fitness center on april 9, 2011, where he squatted his world record 1260. But hey, thanks for your input

However, in the US only a handful of guys compare. Dave Hoff is half Donnie's age and is actually only a few pounds under his total and on his way to crushing it. People hold these records for only a short time. There's really no point in arguing who's better.

If Donnie did a stupid bodybuilder diet strictly for a couple weeks, you would see one of the sickest 8 or 10 packs in the world. But having a 30 inch waist with a beach 6 pack is only for looks and completely weak, and is only cool when you're a kid. The thick core comes from regularly lifting heavy weight. A person can be thin and look like a manchild, or be strong with a thick core.

I'm still trying to find the actual world superheavyweight bench press record lift on You Tube. Not a gym lift but a competition lift. This squat is as impressive as burning hell down! He squatted LOW! This dude has the world's strongest legs. Damn.
