  • Masters of delusion.

  • this idiot does not understand simple things

  • The "work" that the government is creating is not long term. The jobs will be temporary. Renovating Federal Buildings is a one time job. That is what Michael Steele is getting at. These "jobs" are nothing more than temorary pacifiers for the unemployed. Thank you, barack.

  • Your comments regarding Barack would have more credibility IF you also noted what you and your ilk have done over the past 8 years to avert the condition the USA finds itself in today. WHAT have you done to alleviate the suffering of the working middle class? WHAT have YOU done to stablize this screwed up economy that your man George Bush created will fucking his Wall Street whores right under the nose of the so-called watchdog groups. I'd like to know asshole exactly what you've done? WHAT?

  • I am a recruiter for a local business in St. Cloud, MN. I have added 35 qualified individuals to positions in our company over the last 3 months. With more tax breaks for my owner, we could expand even further. I need more qualified employees, not government handout "work". What about yourself? Created any jobs lately?

  • "Qualified" is subjective. How many legitimatly qualified individuals have you personally turned away using this age old discriminatory ruse? To whom do you apply the term? How many have you denied fair and equitable treatment by telling them they are "over-qualified?" How about denying someone telling them they've been looked over because a "more qualified" candidate has been hired? You are blind, deaf and dumb. Your "owner" is an idiot and job = Just Over Broke. Create wealth instead of slaves

  • Qualified is absolutely subjective. Have you ever been held accountable for employee turnover? Every employee goes through the same interview process, and I look for very specific responses to my interview questions. I am very upfront with what our company expects and honestly, around 50% of the people do not get the job because they decide it is not for them. Resorting to name calling so soon in our discussion? Too bad. You don't know my owner. Create wealth not slaves? Tell that to Obama.

  • The destruction of our country and global financial crises is the brainchild of your hero George Bush. The eight year slide into the abyss of global insolvency was permitted and encouraged by people like you. Obama heard and has brilliantly responded to the cries of the people who did not permit your party to prevail. Plain and simple you gummed up the works. You stood by as every decision Bush made stuck in the gut of the average American. You did nothing. Now you complain? Sour grapes.

  • Oh, how flawed your argument is. Are contractors not considered job holders? Do they not pay taxes on their earnings? It is a one time move is it not? Renovating FedBuildings may be one time, but you don't have people do the work who will only do that one building. They move on, and on, to the next contract.

  • At least as far as educators the jobs will likely not go away, they will create future debts for those states. So expect the states to continue hitting up the tax payer for both salaries and benefits as well as retirement for the educators.

Whether you see it or not the problem with government jobs is that they are paid for by the tax payer. So if the jobs stick around our taxes go up, up, up.

  • I am cachinnating, chuckling, giggling, snickering, guffawing, or cackling... Out Loud.

And, with all do respect, I am definitely not Laughing Out Loud (LOL... for you hipsters).

I hope you really understand the distinction.

  • This is the most out-of-touch, nonsensical argument I have yet heard in this debate.

Steele claims that stimulus-created work isn't a job because it doesn't last forever. So he would prefer that the stimulus programs were permanent, and therefore much, much larger? His objection is that the stimulus isn't socialism?

  • To take another point, no job lasts forever. The jobs lost in this recession which then magically "come back" as Steele suggests, won't be the exact same jobs for the exact same workers so this distinction is meaningless on the level of human beings trying to feed their families.

  • Noone in the GOP seems to understand the elementary concept that a stimulus is, by definition, TEMPORARY spending by government to get the ball rolling. And clearly they cannot see the US economy from the perspective of a single US worker looking for a paycheck. Work plus paycheck equals job no matter what you call it. But call it whatever you want, it's still going to help people get through the tough times coming.

    Steele is an idiot.

  • You're a fucktard for not understanding what hes saying. If some Obamatard was sitting around collecting welfare and now can do build some roads for a year or two thats work, its not a career or a long term job.

    Whats so hard to understand??

  • michael steele is a fucktard!

  • Michael Steele this is real nonsense. When you work for private company in a right to work state, your job is day by day. There are no guarantees. The job can go away any day and may never come back.

I really don't understand the difference between a govt-funded project or a privately funded project. The govt wants a new school building and they get contractors to build it. Private investors want a new private school building and they get contractors to build it. Both cases, job done.

  • One difference is that when you choose to buy something you support the business with your money. When the government chooses to buy something, they support the business with your money. They make the choice, not you.

Another is that businesses get paid for a product or service, governments collect taxes. Government has to continue to collect more and more taxes to continue paying. Businesses increase products, prices, etc to continue paying and providing future benefits.

  • Eliminate the government. Lay their greedy good-for-nothing asses off. Rework and/or eliminate the fucking Federal Reserve and eliminate the IRS thus eliminating income tax. Give the country back to the people. Better yet go read "Secrets of The Federal Reserve" to understand just how Bernie Maddox, the Feds and Joseph Ponzi got their start. That also includes AMWAY and any other MLM schemer/scammers. Residual income is the creation of the kings and queens of the USA. Read and learn. Then weep.

  • Well, to be fair to him... It is perfectly legitimate to point out that jobs created by goveernment stimulus are not sustainable in the long-run... but he could not have delivered that message in a worse way.

I mean, economist like Joseph Stiglitz has already expressed worry on whether there would be big enough private demand to fill the hole left by government spending when all the stimulus projects are over in a few years time.

  • Who says that a private industry job is sustainable? Project done, job done. What is the difference?

  • Comment removed

  • what the hell is this guy talking about. Private jobs always go away, education is always good in the long and short term. More incentives to small business sounds like a trickle down effect to me, but I could be wrong on that.

Basically I didn't understand what this guy was saying.

  • More incentives to small businesses means more money in their pocket. They simply now have a higher profit margin. The money given to entrepreneurs does not get re-invested, but gets spent in luxury goods - yachts, mansions, expensive cars etc. This is exactly what the tax cuts to the rich during the Bush era gave us.

  • There was a House committe on small business jobs not long ago. Small businesses provide more jobs, make money, and pay taxes. I sincerely doubt most small business owners are rich. Some are truck drivers, some work from home, some have small store fronts. Many small businesses are moving towards bartering more, so they may not need your handout. The government may just have to learn to do without the taxes however. The underground economy may grow even if the US economy doesn't.

  • If the private sector jobs go away and come back, wouldn't that make them equal to what he described as 'work'? They begin, then end. What's wrong with this guy?

  • I agree with you that there is something wrong with Michael Steele.

Private sector jobs do go away pretty quickly. If you can't stay at a company for more than six months at a time, you get labeled a job hopper. However, If you're in a job for more than three years, that's considered a long time these days. They would rather hire someone from the outside with the training for the new gig rather than give the training to their own employees.

In the real world, perhaps not in politics.

  • George doesn't understand much.

  • i think that is a nice way of george saying steele is talking shite
