  • You might want to mention who this video was TAKEN by, otherwise it is as if you're taking credit for it.

  • @AMTK510 Good point. Do you want me to put America by rail in the title, and description headings?

  • that'd probably be your best idea

  • @AMTK510 Ok! I'm On it! :)

  • The Chief has good narration, and it starts in Chicago, but CZ goes from Coast to Coast, the 1st part is ok, but the Capital Limited uses Superliners now anyways.

  • This is America By Rail, not your own footage.

  • @dylanbobby1 Yep. This is their footage, but I liked it so much, and so many people like these two scenes, why not put them together for a great hornshow? :)

  • @trinityct I do love the CZ, and America by Rail. My other favorite is the Southwest chief video, but Winter Wonderland is boring.

  • @dylanbobby1 Winter wonderland is okay, because of the all the steam action, and the music; which is good, but that's about it. I wish Gregg Scholl Studios would make more of the series though. Sadly they haven't :/

  • @DMISilentSubject1 They definitely should! ;D

  • ah first gen K5LA...

  • @Yzerfan55 Ah, yes, the sweet sound of a good ol' K5La! :)

  • Her sister, #819, was destroyed in the Bayou Canot wreck when she was only 3 weeks old.

  • @ma7799 Yep. She had only served Amtrak for 20 days.

  • @trinityct Maybe a P42 will become the replica of Amtrak 819 for the 20th Anniversary of the Bayou Canot wreck. and the F40PH's from MBTA or VIA Rail will become Amtrak 262 and 312.

  • @mmandmcb14 Maybe.... We can only hope.... :/

  • @trinityct They will be on static display.

  • This was my first P40, first caught it just last year.

  • @kearthfan101 Cool! This was my first P40 too! :)

  • @trinityct what do u mean glory days of amtrak who/what is amtrak?

  • @danielis45 When I say glory days, I mean when Amtrak had great engines that didn't break down, weren't always late, and had a classic paint scheme. (phase three) They had these FANTASTIC General Motors F40PH engines which are shown behind the lead engine; General Electric P40 Genesis engine #818. Amtrak is America's railroad. Also called the National Passenger Railroad Corporation. It was formed in 1971 by the U.S. Congress and President Richard Nixon. :)

  • @trinityct The AMD103 locomotive in the front is reliable too?

  • @danwat1234 The F40PH and the 1st Genesis type engine the P40/AMD103 were; and are both very reliable locomotives. The P40's younger cousin, the P42 was very reliable for its first 7-8 years of service, but by 2003, they were starting to breakdown, overheat, and in the most extreme cases, catch fire, like P42 #'s 112 and 70. They both were used so much they were worked to death. Literally! If Amtrak still had the F40PHs then there wouldn't be a shortage of power due to such P42 failures. :P :(

  • What ever happened to the strobes on the P40's??? I thought they looked really good!

  • @USofMilitaryPower94 Strobe lights were a good safety measure to warn people that a train was approaching, but the engineers didn't like them on the Genesis engines for some reason. I don't know why....

  • I caught #818 back in January at Palmer. It's horn is good but not as good as it was in this video.

  • @Chessiecat97 I saw it once, but I couldn't get video of it because I didn't have my camera. You're right, she still has a nice K5LA, but it's not the same one as the first one back in 1994. :)

  • Man I just can't stop watching this video!! This horn is awesome!

  • @hawleywe Glad you like it! :)

  • I've sen P40DC 818. You should see my video of Amtrak 11 with P40DCs 818 and 821.

  • @lawpar79 You sent it to me. I saw it. Nice shot of the Starlight too! :)

  • Amtrak P40 #818 leading the Westbound California Zephyr

    Locos:

    P40 #818

    F40PH #?

    F40PH #?

  • @mmandmcb14 I unfortunately don't know the exact trailing F40PH numbers. I think the third one is #212. I don't know the 1st F40PH. Sorry :/ Hehe At first I thought that the P40's # was #819 which was involved in the Sunset Bayou crash in 1993.

  • If you can, I'd want to see the clips of this train in Burlington, IA.

  • @TommyBNSF I'm planning on putting up the cabride segment from Denver to Colorado Springs.....

  • These clips were some of my favorite of Amtrak with the gorgeous K5LA. And I also grew up with Phase IV. I really miss it on the Superliners.

  • @TommyBNSF Yup. I don't like the phase 5 paint scheme except on the engines, but even that isn't as cool as the old paint schemes. The best years for Amtrak I think was in 2002, when they had phase 3, 4, 5, (5a and 5b on engines) and the lava lamp paint scheme. 7 different paint schemes were out there at the time! Seven! Now, we have K5LA's that are being re-tuned due to people complaining about the noise. For crying out loud people! It's a horn! It's SUPPOSED to be loud! Sheesh. :P

  • @trinityct What's the lava lamp paint scheme?

  • @117amtrak The Lava Lamp Paint scheme was a paint scheme that lasted only 3 years on Amtrak. It consisted of turquoise blue, light green, patched over each other in oval-ish shapes. The Acela train-sets still have little patches of that paint scheme on the sides of the cars. Search "Amtrak lava lamp paint scheme" in google images, and you should get some decent pictures of what it looked like. :)

  • @trinityct So that's what it is! I've definitely seen that paint scheme before. I just didn't know what it was called. Thanks!

  • @117amtrak Hehe now ya know! :)

  • These clips are from America By Rail. The Heartland.

  • @Trainlover4ever2006 Yup. It is from America by Rail. These clips aren't necessarily mine, but I liked these clips so much, I decided to upload them. :)

  • Nice clips! 818's K5LA doesn't sound as good as it use to back in the 90's. I wish I was born earlier like maybe in the early 1980's so that I could have seen more things that aren't around anymore such as F40's, P40's in phase 3 with the strobe lights, ATSF, ect.

  • @GEBNSF785 Yep. I wish I'd grown up in the good old days. I only get P42's and NPCU's. No F40's sadly. :(

  • I have a feeling that 818 went on the Desert Wind, which explains why it was leading and after Salt Lake city two F40s were leading the train the rest of the way. This is America By Rail: The Heartland. It truly is a fantastic video.

  • @kmothersil yep i've seen all the america by rails, wish they had done more. The tie in with the tourist railroads was very good. The music was great and the trains were great. It would be nice to see more vids on youtube from the series.

  • @TKDMaster20114

    Same here.

  • @kmothersil I'll try. :)

  • @TKDMaster20114 I hope to get more up, but I'm worried about copyrights.

  • @kmothersil I love the whole series. Yup. This entire 2 hour segment was just beautiful. I remember the last clip best of all. :)

  • That's what an Amtrak horn is supposed to sound like. Awesome video and can't wait to see more

  • @mattdean1003 I hope to get more up here, but I don't want to possibly infringe on copyrighted material.

  • Is there an echo in that first shot?

  • @greatersumofparts Yup! There is! You can hear it echoing off the canyon walls on the background.

  • NICE!!!

  • @dwkcamman611 thanks! :)

  • great video

  • @SuperStarRendon Thanks! I kinda wish those trailing F40's were leading though. :)

  • @trinityct I agree. It would be really nice to see the F40's in action once more.

  • @SuperStarRendon Well, I just saw that video of F40 #406 that you favorited. I have to say, it looks nice in the phase three paint scheme, but I've always preferred the phase 4 paint that it used to wear. I grew up in more of the phase 4 era. I saw some phase 3 sometimes, but it wasn't very easy to find. Favorite paint schemes of mine are phase 3 and 4. :)

  • @trinityct

The F40s were going to lead any way. After Salt Lake City that is. 818 most likely got put on the Desert Wind at Salt Lake City, which most likely explains why 818 was leading in the first place.

  • @kmothersil Yup! make sense! :)
