the colecovision one isn't better. This has multicoloured sprites and all levels. Coleco is missing a level and some characters are only one colour, e.g. the snappers on the 1st level. The Coleco version IS good however.
I like the smaller size of DKjr in the Coleco (though he looks too thin), and the brighter color pallet on the Coleco, but overall, yes, I think the Atari version has better graphics, and, overall it's defintiely better with the extra level.
Closer call for me than 8 bit Donkey Kong vs Coleco DK....in my opinion the 8 bit is far far superior there.....all the screens, and it's so much faster, and more fun.
i know what'll happen to junior when he's older, he's gonna go on adventures with his (future) nephew and get rescued by his nephew and his nephew's girlfriend.
OH man I have never seen this version before. The Snap Jaws look like the Saw birds from Bonk's adventure. Is this the Cassette version? This rocks. Even the ending is cooler then then NES version!
a lot of memories.... oh my god i am going to cry.... i remember a lot of thigs.....cool i am from mexico and i remember when was with my parenst.. iwas just a child
I didn't like this conversion as much as the original Donkey Kong because the game was tougher. It was easy to get past the second level on the ColecoVision version, but this one took much time to make it fun.
But later, I discovered a trick to make things easier. Type SHIFT "BOOGA" (w/o the quotes) on the title screen. Then type "K" for invincibility or "S" to change screens. Of course, some emulators lets you turn off the collision detection, so that helps, too. :)
I prefer the ColecoVision version to this one... as well as the Adam Super Game data pack equivalent, which is one step beyond the regular CV version.
when i was little i used to have an cracked version on tape, but righnow i have it on cartridge. ohhhh good memories those were they days hehe, pure nostalgia.
I prefer this atari version than the NES one, same with the original DK.

Damn, I played this game so many times in my youth that I can tell you that the music in the key stage sounds too slow. Me = nerd.

What media were these Nintendo games on the Atari computers stored on?
Lachlant1984 2 years ago
On the Atari 800XL, this game was on a cartridge.

@ClassicTVMan81 I remember playing this off a 5 1/4" floppy disk on the Atari 800XL my family owned at the time.

DK Jr should have been in DK Country!!!
WatchVenusSpa 2 years ago
Rare wanted to give him a new look, but Nintendo gave Rare two options
1:Have him keep his old loo
2:Make a new character
so that's where Diddy (DK's nephew) came into the picture thus making Donkey Kong Jr. the Current Donkey Kong.

but acoording to what i have heard, the DK starring gorila is this same DK junior but in his adult age.

Don't let the number fool you! This is better than the 2600.

What a retarded comment. Of course it's better than the 2600 version. It's like comparing PS2 graphics to the PS1.

For this version, does it use the following level progression, which would be as listed below?
For the record:
L1 - Vines, Chains
L2 - Vines, Springboard, Chains
L3 - Vines, Hideout, Chains
L4 - Vines, Springboard, Hideout, Chains

This actually looks to be at about the same level as some of the early Sega Master System games, except maybe a choppier framerate. Huh.
