  • A most unusual and beautiful film. It's about people, war, love, healing and wanting to name just a few. It takes place near the end of WWII.

  • There exists a better verision of this movie (directors cut or someting). There is no russian dubbing at all (subtitles only) and I like it so much better. I am russian so dubbing destroys a feeling of misunderstending (in my perception at least) which is one of the central ideas in the movie. So I would recomend you to find that version to see this wonderful movie "as is".

  • How many languages are spoken there? It seems like a woman is speaking neither Finnish nor Russian.

  • @zipacna1980

    Anni speaks saami

    Veikko speaks finnish

    Ivan speaks russian

German soldiers in the very beginning speak german

  • I ended up laughing a lot o:

  • Very good movie, thx for the upload!

  • Love it

  • Very good film! Nice to see my Saami people represented in film as well!

  • Beautiful movie, loved the scenery. I have been on a Russian war movie kick and this is one of the good ones I have seen so far on youtube.

  • Deze film is prima film.

    Horoshij film

  • Good movie. Talk whatever you like.

  • Great movie.Greetings from Turk land to Finland.

  • wow.. this was exelent movie :)

  • Very good quality movie, a lot better than the Hollywood crap ... thanks for it... greetings from Romania...

  • and Finnish is heard >)

  • Good movie, great actors and also healthy humour!

  • great movie. finally something different from that american crap

  • @lordofutub

Well, you know, Cohen bros films (for exaple) are cool in fact.

But yeah, this film is just great. I would recomend also such russian movies as Island /Остров/(2006), all Balabanov`s and most of Rogozhkin`s (director of this one, Cuckoo).

  • @lordofutub : "finally something different from that american crap"

first movie i watch in months and months ... youtube suggested it. Auspicious day. youtube is american but not crap (though their template policies and low priority translations make one wonder).

.... know what you mean though. True.

  • beautiful film. Thank you

  • Many thanks for sharing this. I'm very interested in Finland as a country and culture, i didn't know that Sami speask a different dialect. supposing that the Sami woman "Anni" was from the north of Finland.

    Greetings from Egypt!

  • @pristineex Greetings from Finland! =)

  • @pristineex

Dude, Saami is a completely different language from Finnish. They're originally from parts farther East. They have long interbred with the FennoScandians. The farther back you go in time the more Asian they look.

  • what a beautiful film! i enjoyed it so mush. thanks for sharing.

  • why was the sniper chained to the mountain??

  • @32middlelinebacker In order to prevent deserting.

  • @zipacna1980 ok makes sense but damn have a little faith in the guy! He went through sniper school he wants to be there lol...

  • @32middlelinebacker Not in a late '44 with Soviet forces rolling through Europe like avalanche. A few people are willing to die for a lost cause. It was normal nazy practice to force people into battle this way in a late stages of war.

  • @zipacna1980 yeah but he's finnish...

  • @32middlelinebacker Finns were a part of Axis when.

  • @zipacna1980 dammit.

  • Wspaniały NIEAMERYKAŃSKI film !!!Obejrzyj spokojnie, zrozum, posłuchaj mowy..

  • very clever film. hardly a war movie. a subtle comedy.

  • Great film

  • I laughed my ass off... i do understand russian and english.. this is just awsome:)

  • This was an amazing movie! So different to the ones I usually watch. Such a shame I didn't know about it any earlier... It was fun watching it because I'm from Finland, and I study Russian. Hehe ;D

  • amazing movie !

  • What a great movie! The scene at the end is awesome!

  • Thanks for uploading this movie!

(2004) is a really great movie. Excellent camera work, a profound true reality, a real philosophy of a real people, excellent language/costume presentation , great artistic play…ONE DEFECT; the director has a bad sense of timing …it goes too slow, the scenes are not balanced according to importance .

    Over all B+

    watch?v=vIczx-0Z38w&feature=related

  • So far this is the greatest movie of post-Soviet era, which I admire. 100% great art, great culture, great cinema ...

  • Such a smart and moving and beautiful movie...

  • Such a great movie! spasibo! Kittos!

  • Very good movie.. I love it...!

  • East of Finnland...(east of Eden) Stienbeck..and so the tale is told yet again.

  • There is a version of this without the constant Russian overdubbing. If you can find it, you should upload it to replace this. I speak Russian and I can't stand this version - you can't hear the Finnish or Sami. It's been 20 years since the Iron Curtain fell and Russia has yet to discover the subtitle.

  • @kozmon0t it's bloody ridiculous to be honest. the entire point of this film is communicating through the language barrier, dubbing completely spoils it

  • Whoops at 1 hour 18 min

  • NICE,HEART TOUCHING MOVIE.

  • TOTAL IDIOCY! sex-war-movie

  • @10WiseVirgins

I'm just curious. What is wrong with war and sex? Both are basic traits of being human. I don't like war that much, though. As Larry Niven put it, humans gave up war because they were too good in it.

  • @10WiseVirgins If it were not for "dirty sex" you wouldnt be here. Dork.

  • @ThouHastEnabled I am writing my PH.D on Sovietology, and I have seen great masterpieces of Russian cinema, like “The destiny of man,”” The father of a soldier” ’ The dawns are quiet here,” etc etc.

Unfortunately , the contemporary Russian cinematography is TRASH. Where it has gone all this excellent schools pf cinema, music, dance ,etc. of Soviet era?

What happened to Russian great culture? It turns into a cheap imitation of Western culture with no National ID or soul?

    I am very SAD!

  • @10WiseVirgins You do not know the modern Russian cinema: In August, the 44th(2001 film); The Star (2002 film); Shtrafbat (TV 2004), Convoy PQ-17 (TV 2004), Brest Fortress (2010 film). And, in the same way the old Soviet cinema, the best is: The living and the dead (1964 film) In Flames (1968 film); Movie epic (1968 - 1971) Liberation: Film I: The Fire Bulge; Film II: Breakthrough, Film III: Direction of the Main Blow (Part 1, Part 2); Film IV: The Battle of Berlin; Film V: The Last Assault...

  • @1oden2dva3tree Thank you very much. I watched Brest Fortress. It is a great movie. I am looking to find others you indicated. The films of 1960s know already.they are THE BEST war movies EVER created by cenema productions. No animation, or effects- all are 100% real actions. 100% genius art! I am interested in Convoy PQ-17, and could not find it. Please send the link, if you know it. Thanks.

  • @1oden2dva3tree /watch?v=NIMfh7SnTi0 Is this it? or this is different?

    Thanks

  • @10WiseVirgins Yes, this is it: - Реквием по каравану PQ-17 (Convoy PQ-17 (TV 2004)). However, it is better to find a DVD. Low levels of video - on Yuotube.

The Star (2002 film) - You will find on my playlist.

In August, the 44th(2001 film) - Yuotube - Enter the text in Cyrillic: В августе 44-го (2001)

In Flames (In the war - as in war 1968 film) - Yuotube - Enter the text in Cyrillic: На войне как на войне

Liberation - Yuotube - Enter the text in Cyrillic: Освобождение... Good luck!

  • @1oden2dva3tree thanks.

  • @1oden2dva3tree I watched Звезда. NO. It is just a good war adventure movie. It is not great cinema, as USSR used to produce. I see lot of actions/blood, I don’t see a concept, or reality of the war,deep-insight of it. In Soviet 1960s movie, you don’t see blood or much action, but you feel ON YOUR SKIN 100% the horror of the WWII. Soviet cinematography was genius. Post-soviet cinema is 20% of it.

I hope they will continue the great Soviet cinema traditions.

  • @10WiseVirgins Watch the movie "Bastards/Сволочи 2006"-(watch?v=Yn8XTA8VlA8); "Свои" 1/12 Svoi Our Own 2004 -(watch?v=KPu9OGWPlNQ&feature=related)

The war is not a big show. War is composed of individual episodes.

My mother's brother (military intelligence) - was also killed, as well as the guys from the movie Star. My father's brother -also escaped from captivity, and then fought with the nazis -as these "triplet" from the movie "Свои". Real people, for me, greater than - any other big show...

  • @10WiseVirgins You are pro soviet? Thats sad. Yes, western style movies are better, so I have no problem with that. Isnt this movie made in Finland? So......its not Russian. The Brest Fortress was a good but tragic movie, MADE IN RUSSIA. It actually made me feel bad for the besieged communists (which is very rare.). Back to the point, sex and soviets are two different things all together. For someone who is getting their phd, I would hope someone of you're intelligence would not be so biased.

  • @ThouHastEnabled 'pro Soviet?'To admire the heroism of Russian people does not mean to be 'pro-Soviet'. And the talented people of USSR themselves NEVER were 'pro-Soviet'- communists used their talents to create great culture, cinema, music, dance; Shostakovich, Plisezkaia,Kozinzev, Smaktunovski, Richter, Cogan, Visozki,Bulgakov, etc...none of these genius people were 'pro-soviet'

  • @10WiseVirgins You are so right! I wouldn't say that Russian great culture disappeared at all. There are still some good directors etc. But it's all so called "art-house". Previously everything we created was at least of high quality. Nowadays... 1 film of 25 is worthy.

it's really sad( you know, loads of Russians ask themselves the same question as you did. The answer (in my opinion) is ... we lost our soul, we make parodies. You do not loose your soul! Or you die(((((

  • the movie touch my heart.. emil'

  • wonderful movie.

  • It would be better without the Russian voice-overs. Good movie, glad I rented it.

  • Thank you for sharing. I also came across this movie by accident and it was a good thing I did. The movie is like a poem. It is simple, bright and beautiful. More people should watch and think about it.

  • Definitely worth the time u spend on it, a great movie

  • @hindolanda: well, somehow different from "The horde of Zombies". This is why you didn't get it !

  • I used this great movie to learn Russian (for myself) and to teach English to my mother , and we enjoyed it a lot. 10 points from 10, and +1 for the humour and original , beautiful locations :-) Greetings from Hungary !!

  • mmmaybe the kids were the fin lands cause it be would be impossible to get pregnant by two man and give bitth to twins so it's like a 50/50 how odd

  • @yellowniggabart123 It's possible that they are fraternal twins and not identical twins. Fraternal twins can have two different fathers.

  • @XxVikingxXxMetalxX -Fraternal= 2 eggs + 2 sperms = 2 babies,at the same time. OR 1 egg + 1 sperm,......next cycle in 28 days, 1 egg + 1 sperm = 2 babies,1 -9 month and 1-8 month old,here their 'can' be two fathers.

  • He moved the wrong dial on the scope. He should have moved the windage on the side to go left.....not the elevation on the top.

  • Came across this movie by accident. Glad I did because I truly enjoyed it. It was beautiful and refreshing. Something different compared to what is often offered here in the US. Thank you so much for posting this movie and making it available to me as well as everyone else. I truly appreciate it.

  • @ANGELSRAGE77 I feel exactly the same

  • Good movie but I dont get what its about ha

  • U can find this with subs only on SubtitledRusMovies.

  • Kyl on hyvä leffa

  • Unbelivebel,beautiful story.Congratulation to screen writer,director , and photography director.WEll done guys,keep working and posting sach wonderful storys.Thanks Vic.

  • Why do you guys have to dub everything?

  • @LapinPete

    Why not? ;)

  • @PyccoTypucmo because so much of acting is in the vocal tones of the actors. you lose that completely when you dub it into a monotonous stream of information. it ruins background noise, music, the whole atmosphere of the film. Moreover, there is a clear negative correlation between dubbing in a country and linguistic skills of its citizens. The dubbing of cinema is a crime against art and until it stops russians will continue speaking english to appaling standards.

  • @johannes14

Are you offering Russians to study English and other languages? "Brilliant" idea. ;) So, in this case, I'd like to offer other nations to learn Russian for understanding literature classic and movies. This is nonsense. If you say so, you've never heard versions of the soviet dub, where perfectly shown background noise, music, the whole atmosphere of the film. Even western actors admitted that the Russian dub is very close to the original of the films.

    cont...

  • @johannes14

I don't agree with you that the dubbing of cinema is a crime against art. Of course, according as the dub was made. Sometimes bad... In this case, I agree but... anyway most of the viewers prefer watch and hear than watch, hear and read subtitles. So do I. ;) For example, I have watched 3 or 4 versions of dubbing for "Back to the Future" (from single voices translation to multi voices) and, to tell the truth, I wasn't incommoded by this fact. ;)

  • @PyccoTypucmo it's just absolutely ridiculous. to see the characters speaking completely out of sync and to have their talents as actors basically stripped down to miming. i understand it's what a lot of people have grown up with but it's an insult to the intelligence and attention span of the viewers.

  • @johannes14

Possibly you are right but I don't understand what are you offering for all viewers? To watch all films with the subtitles? But it's ridiculous, as you said. ;) The subtitles - a specific and special stuff: for hard-of-hearing people and for low-cost translation of the film, because the professional and high quality dub is expensive enough. ;)

  • @johannes14

Oops sorry. I just wanna say that your Russian is really very good. Seems to me, it's better than my English manyfold. ;)

  • @PyccoTypucmo i don't think we'll ever agree on this :) on well, thanks for putting the film up anyway!

  • @johannes14

Thank you... Anyway, thank you for the good discussion. I always like to speak with a clever and adequate person. ;) But, as Paula Abdul has sung - Opposites Attract. Who knows... maybe we'll meet together...

  • @johannes14

Well, in details I agree with you. And if you know Russian, I'd like to continue in my native language, just a little.. ;)

В частности, я хочу загрузить "The Langoliers" и "The Quiet Earth".

  • sick -_-
