WOW, Melissa, great informative video. Big thanks! I am new to working with Roses. I have 3 Rose Trees and have no clue how to do maintenance. And I lost 2 of them after the winter. What can I do to protect my Rose Trees during the winter living in Illinois? I appreciate your video clip and cannot wait to get outside and do some trimming.
Hi wanted to ask somethings if we can cut anywhere on the rose bush or by force where there is a bud eye is? When is the time to really prune roses? Where i live it never snows so my roses are always green. Do i prune them in fall , winter or before spring? Thanks so much :)
@n1les ...Great question! If your roses are always green, you can 'pocket prune' anytime , Meaning, take the 3 tallest stalks that have bloomed out, and prune them back-about a third down. Make the cut right above a bud eye.,,, Here in Georgia, we prune hard in late January or early Feb, right before leaf break... then we fertilize.
Thanks for your videos! I was afraid to prune my knockouts the first time, but after I watched your video on it, it gave me confidence and now they look a lot better and I think they're going to do well this year.
Today I will be uploading another video on pruning a Knock Out Rose that is HUGE... and I prune them wayyy down... Look for it! and Thanks so much for watching!
melissa , can you look at my latest video and post some advice about my roses?I show them after I talk about my vegetables. I have a really big one that I want to prune. well you will see what I mean it's really bad. help
Thanks for making this video. I live in north Ga around Lake Lanier. My husband and I are thinking about adding some roses to our garden. Great video :)
I will be posting another video soon (in about 2 weeks)about my own personal K.O. rose... it shows how big they actually can get, and how i pruned it down a bit. it needs a 5' x 5' area to grow~ which is of course about 2 1/2' to 3' away from a bldg or other plant. I am a little worried that the K.O. rose will become 'overplanted' here in the southeast, but when put in the correct area, you will be SO pleased with it! Thanx for the compliment! also see my drought tolerant video.melissa
Hey! that video i was speakin of is up.. the rose isnt huge yet, but the vid is titled 'wildlife' it also shows a praying mantis that i found in the fall & her hatched egg case on the rose when i pruned it back... enjoy!
Love the southern accent!

dodgerbuddy7 ,
In my opinion tree roses should NOT be grown in colder climates such as yours... Sorry...
I would plant hardy bush roses for your area of Illinois....
