just because I wear a Boba Fett helmet makes me a nerd? I mean, you're right, but how did you know? But hey, you liked it, and that's all that's important...
when I bought this one (I was in high school) I wanted the red frst, then blue, but had to settle for the only 'Octa-Plus' they had in California at the time, this one, it was (and still is) clear (but a little yellow now)..
Bah on the negativity, these are really good vidz. Being able to break down drumming like Danny's is a talent all on it's own, so thanks for sharing. Makes me want to get back on my kit. Keep it up.
Thanks for the very kind words!! Yeah, some people just like to snipe behind their little screen names, and for what 'good' reason?? Not too sure, but hey, that's them and NOT you. Let's talk about YOU, shall we?!?!? Your tubs aren't set up?!?!? wha happened?? You still have all 4 limbs?? well, ok then, 3 limbs?? good enuf!!
Set that mighty set back up and make some joyful noise!!
Thanks for the kind words and the keen observations. I think you need a hug! Look it man, if you knew anything about drums at all, you'd KNOW that I wasn't trying to 'cover' the song but get the main riff across, which according to the other 7K viewers of this video, I did fine on. Since you're so articulate about my abilities, I challenge you to video yourself doing the riff any better. If you do, I hope people are nicer to you than you have been to me. Go see a therapist!
If you taught yourself how to play "Sober", then you're doing great ! Whatever your age-keep practicing your craft and stay humble. There will ALWAYS be someone in the wings who's better. The groove and fills to"Sober" are tricky, but the main thing about Danny Carey is his unflinching steadiness. So, once you learn a beat, THEN work on playing it consistently. I have an 8 yr-old student who can play "Sober" and the breakdown groove to "Eulogy". YIKES!
I'm stoked you like my work. Mark and I had fun shooting them and I'm glad you appreciate our brand of humor....hopefully you get some new licks, too...
well my sober cover got finshed and im doing another tomarrow because the swimsuit looks like a skirt and my right ear looks pierced but i dont have and im woundering if its a light deal or what but its BADASS GO CHECK IT OUT BLOODWEISER 69 the drums are amazing
I checked out your band, and while I didn't see the Tool cover you talked about, I did see a pretty kick-ass video of one of your originals. Good stuff!
ALL of what DC does is cool, but some of it is easier to figure out than the parts that I have highlighted in my videos. In this video, I simply show the two ideas that he put together to make up the main groove for SOBER. I'm sure you can find a teacher in your part of the universe that can help you with any of the other bits. As for me, I teach in the part of the galaxy called The Bay Area in Caleeforniah. Look me up if you're ever nearby.
Thanks for chiming in.....of all the amazing stuff DC does, this is just one small sample of his many killer grooves. The fills however, aren't from Sober (as far as I know) just the groove part...but I couldn't resist doin' some riffin' of my own.....but if you like my fills, TAKE 'EM man!!
coming from an Earthling, that is a great compliment, but I'll let you in on a little secret....Danny Carey is NOT from Earth either....how else can you explain his brilliance?
glad you liked the vid....the fill was off? Let me tell you how 'off' it actually is-it's so off, that I wasn't even trying to do a DC fill, I was really just trying to demonstrate the main groove...BUT, even tho the fill wasn't from SOBER, did you like it? Because if you didn't, I challenge you to a light-saber dual!
live long and prosper, I mean, may the force be with you-no I mean, give in to the darkside....but you already have, haven't you? you DO listen to TOOL, right?
No the fill you did was awesome I get what youre saying about the groove tutorial piece of it. Im going over it myself as I play covers and a band I fill in for does this song and I want to get the fills EXACT as I always do when performing them live but no you sound sick. The drums sound great what do you use for heads? Oh yeh and wasn't trying to offend my bad
Sorry for the lag-time. Thanks for the props. My take on doing fills exactly like our heros recordings is, THEY don't even (in most cases) play a fill exactly the way they recorded it when they play 'live', so why should we? But rather, it's more creative to get close to something that might work and sound as awesome.
The head setup I'm using is as basic as it gets. pinstripes on top and ambassadors on the bottoms-no muting, no iso-mounts...11 microphones, EQ, verb, compression.
Thanks to the type of mounting hardware that is available on those jungle-gym-type tubular rack set-ups, the 5 toms are set up in a gentle flow, starting just above the hi-hat and wrapping around the snare to just underneath the ride cymbal. But using them adds like an hour to your set-up time and takes a large footprint on a stage. I use a trooper-clone to set it all up for me. He (she) can also run back-stage security as well.. BF
glad you like the video...But I'm not weraing a mask, it's a helmet for when I go to war, which is often. In fact, I just saw War last night at the county fair, "Why Can't We Be Friends"....I don't get it?!?....BF

Yeah, you're right, I should have done the exact intro fill Mr. Carey did rather than just the groove...maybe for the next batch..
