What kind of idiots are the adults in the background? The children are clearly interested and want to stay with the apes, yet the adults are all like "Come let's go" all the time. I mean, for fucks sake, if you go to a zoo, at least stay with the animals for a while.
@LetsPlayDMods I agree 100%. The kids had a great interaction going with the Mother and Baby gorilla. Don't get parents like that, everything on a time schedule.
Wow! Gorilla babies have temper tantrums too! Look @ 1:20 to the end! LOL! He ran back to the first glass pane where he/she was playing and realized the kids werent there anymore and had a fit! LOL! Too funny & cute ;) Gorilla mamas go through that shit too I guess! LOL
Human beings are the dominant species on this planet, do you think a lion is ashamed when it kills the slowest baby zebra in the herd? You are a human, fucking accept it dude. If we were not meant to exist we wouldn't.
@SupermanEmpire1 spoken from a true ignorant mind. we weren't "meant" to turn out anyway. its just the way natural selection works. all animals in nature have learned to coexist peacefully for the most part and we should too. so fuck off with your delusional sense of superiority and go read a fuckin book
itsws just sickning watchin those people look at an videop tape a natural wonder and they are way more special then humans we should just all die cause we ruin every thing we should only live like they do the basic essentials were nopt ment to be able to travel the world flying in airplanes an shit its bull shit we have to live in nature and with it to live for ever
Furthermore, while zoos do entertain the public, most accredited facilities actually endeavor to educate the public even as it entertains. This means they don't just talk about animals and their natural habitat but things that are threatening their survival in the wild.
More and more zoos are trying to make their enclosures as beneficial to the animals within them as possible, and there are strict rules about what constitutes good care of intelligent creatures like apes.
Having lived in a cage once and not being able to leave when I wanted and being subjected to cruel conditions and no freedom. I would almost agree to the adage of "better to live one day in the wild, than your life in captivity". When I was caged, all I thought about was when I had been free. I would bet the animals do the same.
I was stupid. It was a jail cell. Long story. But that was a long time ago. But I still remember the agony of losing my freedom. But I grew up, and became a decent Father, started a business a recovered from my mistakes.
@bede86 Sorry, ridgerunner. Inside a cage is not the way to treat any animal. What did these do to deserve such treatment? Only to prevent extinction...but who was responsible for that in the first place? We're not doing very well in a lot of places. Wild animal parks are a step in the right direction. Sorry again about your ordeal.
@ridgerunner98570 Zoos aren't just animal prisons. They work hard and spend millions trying to make every animal happy and healthy. Keeping animals in captivity for display isn't just about entertaining people, it's also about educating people, encouraging appreciation for nature and SAVING species from an unnecessary extinction. Zoos put a massive amount of effort each year into preserving and protecting species in the wild :)
"Better they should live one day in their natural habitat, than their entire life imprisoned"
thats such a silly comment. if it wasnt for zoos chances are there wouldnt be any gorillas left in the world nor would most people ever get a chance to see a gorilla in front of them
I agree... but to a certain extent, human beings have did much of the damage that endangered the gorillas in the first place and now we have to lock 'em up to save 'em from ourselves...
kind of weird...
Sanctuaries like the ones they have in africa, i have little problem with, but zoos in america where animals are captured for entertainment and amusement are different. Tthey also have a lot of animals in those zoos that are not endangered...
If there wasn't for people, then gorillas wouldn't have their natural habitat taken from them, and be forced to live in cages such as these for humans to gawk at.
I totally agree. It is cruel and inhumane to keep animals in cages or behind glass walls for our amusement. Who are we to keep their freedom?!!! Better they should live one day in their natural habitat, than their entire life imprisoned. It's criminal on our part.
After Bonobos and Chimpanzees, they're our closest evolutionary cousins. In general, we are more evolved, but I don't use that fact to separate us or to consider them 'lesser'. By the way, Gorillas are endangered, so life in captivity is what keeps them alive. They get a nice place to live, there are no predators, they get daily meals, play time, and all that. We're helping them out, really. It's not as bad as it may look.
Shouldn't it be peek a boo - never mind, what I saw was a baby animal asking them to go away in it's language. Guess the plonkers don't speak gorilla.
It saddens me to say but I also agree with treewhatzit . Its better for them to be at least safe and without the stress of man tearing their habitat apart for trees etc. Somehow and this may be impossible but to educate the people who eat bushmeat and to educate them to other protein foods. Howver , my feeling for poachers is kill them on the spot.
Even with education, those who live in the bush like the !kung, well it's just part of their culture, the way they've been raised, much like the way we have been raised to drink milk from the store. Go to Thailand, and some of the surrounding places, and some parts of south america however, and you'll get ridiculed. I agree on the poacher part, but those that are hunter gathers, well, you can't do much about them.
its wouldnt be so bad if they were hunted by people who actually live in the bush and the tyrants who mess up the people's lives so much that they have to resort to eating them. i think it depends on their hostility to whether you shoot to kill on the spot, but poaching MUST be put to an end. besides stem cells, the most promising drugs come from the wildlife in these areas where the worst diseases develop. if thats gone, HIV will no longer need a jungle period and be unstoppable.
i think youtube lost my comment, sorry if i post twice.
i'd rather live behind a glass wall, well fed and socialized, than orphaned in the wild and almost being killed by a hunter. basically what treemeadow said.
and if you're going to be so rude about someone else's question (even if it's obvious), then good luck in real life. you'll need it.
The glass'll have to do until we do soemthing about their own environment.
Zoos do a LOT for conservation.they spend HOURS each day in training and enrichment, its not boring, remembering also that in the wild, gorillas spend a large part of the day resting
at 1st i didnt reely think about animals incaptivaty was wrong until i thot of how i wood fel if i was in ther place id go crazy so i feel sory 4 them
i'd rather live behind a glass wall, well fed and stimulated/socialized, than orphaned in the wild almost killed by who knows what. most likely a hunter.
basically what treemeadow said.
and you don't have to be so rude just because someone was asking a question you thought was obvious. ok?
i think youtube lost my comment, sorry if i post twice.

Given a choice between nature *excluding* man and the glass enclosure w/ guaranteed food, mates and health care, I'd take the glass any day of the week. I'd say, Imagine living *your* entire life in the wild facing all the harsh elements of nature. Do broken bones not hurt if your a gorilla in the wild? Do rotten teeth not hurt? What about parasites? Starvation and dehydration? It's easy to sit on that high horse when you don't pay the consequences of such decisions.
