I am personally anti-abortion, but still pro-choice, and I think of Morgentaler, as an activist of a worthy cause. personally I think women who do not have a truly solid reason for abortion such as rape, economic or health factors, fetal defects, etc, otherwise I think a woman looking for an abortion for frivilous reasons, should recieve some kind of counseling to try and deter her, and if she still truly wants one, should be allowed to recieve it. yes, asking if someone was pressuring her would have been a better thing to say. i'm not even sure the situation played out exactly the way she explains, but that would have indeed been a better thing to say. however, being pressured is a far cry from being forced. one can be pressured and still act like a free agent. furthermore, morgentaller not conducting himself in the most perfect way is not an argument against abortion.

you're totally right. Morgentaler was an abortionist, not a sadistic rapist-butcher who held women down. as an adult, she had the power to make a decision, put her foot down, and walk out.
first of all Vicky did say she didn't want to do the procedure to the doctor. That was her decision.When I was pregnant with my first at 18, I was going to have the abortion very close till I felt it was not right and said I didn't want to do it. The doctor than put down his tools and told me, he could not do the procedure without me wanting it done. What Morentaler did was out of his own decision and not hers - she was forced, encouraged, and to that point a careless mistake on his half.
Also, half of those woman who parade around with ABORTION IS MURDER signs have either had one themself, had a friend who had one and supported them or know someone who was going to have one or had one and said NOTHING to stop them! there are actually some peripheral laws on abortion. if you ask me, there's something that rubs me the wrong way about 3rd trimester abortions (viability stage). Don't say that women are encouraged and forced by abortionists. That's ridiculous.
The only issue I see is at what point the fetus gains feeling and rudimentary cognition. Experts seem to agree pain perception starts in the third trimester. So it seems to me that's the only consistent logical way to determine "person hood" since we tend to view an irreversible vegetative state in a born human as the persons death. I really don't see why this is so hard for people. Arbitrarily assigning "person hood" to a lump of cells is ludicrous.
Having said that, Canada allows up till birth abortions...That's hideous. Anyone that suggests that no woman or doctor would perform such a late term abortion that wasn't medically necessary therefore no restriction is required, just remember medical malpractice exists for a reason. And there are women that have killed their born children...Pretending a sentient Homo sapien deserves no rights or protections because of its location and method of respiration is frankly inhuman.

The woman in this video regrets her decision to go to the abortion clinic. She said that she had said, "I don't want to do this to my baby". But it was not for the doctor to decide for her. At any time she could have got off the table. Female empowerment is what it is and has to be exercised. Abortion gives women who are not ready to be moms and who would probably end up in a terrible situation financially/emotionally a right to say "no, i'm not ready." But this woman in the video depicts Morgentaler like a cruel murder...I am so greatful for him because I get to have the rest of my life now. And every baby deserves to be born out of love, not regret, and have the best life possible -- abortion lets you say your not ready.

Morganteler is NOT a murder and nor does he deserve to be charged as one. BECAUSE of the large number of women he first incountered in the ER from fatally botched and self conducted abortions early in his career, he began his fight for pro choice and OHIP funding for abortions. I am personally anti-abortion, but still pro-choice, and I think of Morgentaler, as an activist of a worthy cause. personally I think women who do not have a truly solid reason for abortion such as rape, economic or health factors, fetal defects, etc, otherwise I think a woman looking for an abortion for frivilous reasons, should recieve some kind of counseling to try and deter her, and if she still truly wants one, should be allowed to recieve it. I mean, Kevorkian never kill depressed people.

Also, every person who gets an abortion goes through counseling before. She couldn't have mentioned it to the counselor, the person who's very job is to talk to women about these kinds of issues?
It is not Henry Morgentaler's fault. He simply gave women the chance to decide for themselves whether they want a child, he did not make the decision for them.

I don't know if I can fully trust one woman's personal testimony of an horrible experience to outweigh the overwhelming positives legal abortion has brought to modern society. Though I could never deny her her right to oppose abortion I can say that there is no way for her to know if morgentaller was having a shitty day or any other thing that could change circumstances. Also, the way he "examines" the fetus is the same as a autopsy or an anatomoligist studying cadavers.

yes, asking if someone was pressuring her would have been a better thing to say. i'm not even sure the situation played out exactly the way she explains, but that would have indeed been a better thing to say. however, being pressured is a far cry from being forced. one can be pressured and still act like a free agent. furthermore, morgentaller not conducting himself in the most perfect way is not an argument against abortion.

first of all Vicky did say she didn't want to do the procedure to the doctor. That was her decision.When I was pregnant with my first at 18, I was going to have the abortion very close till I felt it was not right and said I didn't want to do it. The doctor than put down his tools and told me, he could not do the procedure without me wanting it done. What Morentaler did was out of his own decision and not hers - she was forced, encouraged, and to that point a careless mistake on his half.

The only issue I see is at what point the fetus gains feeling and rudimentary cognition. Experts seem to agree pain perception starts in the third trimester. So it seems to me that's the only consistent logical way to determine "person hood" since we tend to view an irreversible vegetative state in a born human as the persons death. I really don't see why this is so hard for people. Arbitrarily assigning "person hood" to a lump of cells is ludicrous.

Check out the video "Silent Scream" and be quite surprised at just how cognitive of intrusive danger and distress an unborn child is in utero. Don't ever forget or deny the the fact that this is a BUSINESS! No woman has ever been killed or harmed during an adoption and I've never heard one woefully regret that choice vsv. an abortion. (or three, who's counting?) Perhaps a little more assertiveness may have even prevented the pregnancies let alone the abortions.

let you understand right away, I never said what they did was/is right. I believe in the anti-abortion laws as much as you do and I truly hate all awards he can have received for all those murders. My first university essay was of the Pro-Life stance and at every opertunity I try to talk to a "pro-choice" person and talk them into sence... after all, it is useless to convert a pro-life to pro-life. For the survival of most, I would not hesitate what so ever! But I'd still ask forgiveness for him through prayer if the lord sees it fit for him. And what does it mean: it means that if i am to make the same sin over and over, that I hope someone prays for me so that maybe one day I realise what I've done wrong, even if I was confirmed atheist...

I think women deserve a choice. Is it FAIR to carry a baby to term when you can't provide for it? Is it fair to have a child in a situation that doesn't give it ANY advantages to a good home? You may say love is all a child needs, but how much love is a baby going to get if the mother didn't want it in the first place?

The woman in this video regrets her decision to go to the abortion clinic. She said that she had said, "I don't want to do this to my baby". But it was not for the doctor to decide for her. At any time she could have got off the table. Female empowerment is what it is and has to be exercised. She let the abortion continue as she had twice before, and could have chosen not to go to the clinic, not to be operated on. I see her regret but I also see her responsibility. Empowered indecision.

Morgentaler did not save any lives, he took lives. Hospitals were sanctioned to perform legal abortions with a proper panel of doctors to guide pre natal care and post abortion care. For morgentaler to make those claims when all he wanted was to make money on his own illegal practice because he would not abide by The College Of Physians rules. Morgentaler cares nothing for life, only money and his refusal to recognize life itself in the womb.
