  • Likt it....good job>>>>>

  • Like it... good job!

  • ok i get how to make custom fiberglass things but how do you mount them on the door panel or dash. my ford f150 has clips built into the panel. could i just use the current panel and put the fiberglass over that?

  • can you tell me the exact products used? where to buy. thanks.

  • can you use any type of cloth

  • can you use any type of cloth

  • How did you get it on the door? did you screw it on or clip it?

  • nice job

  • how is it holded on?

    did u clip it on?

  • Simple panel but looks really good! Useful tip: Derecha= RIGHT in English not rigth

  • wait how did u attach the new speaker panel ?

  • nice n tidy looks factory but better liking the vinyl to i`m doing a clio mk1 door at the mo with vibe black air 6 components with the crossover on show and a tweeter pod on the piller or door dunno yet but nice 1 man

  • @mikelovesbass09 Do you have any pictures or a movie of this, cos i wanted to take off the small panels where rubbish and crap usually goes, and instead build a custom panel to run some speakers seeing seeing as the speakers on a mk1 clio are very small and crap. How much would this cost to do in £'s/$'s???

  • @paul291190 not alot i did pretty much what you did in this vid but just pods for my speakers so it looks trick but i can take them back to standard in a flash man your car is sexylisious tho sound cost me like nuffin just time

  • Amazing.

  • yes how did you fasten it back on the back?

  • great vid . now i wanna do this to my accord sedan in the back doors. thanks again

  • looks great! simple but totally custom, How did you fasten the new lower part to the door?

  • good job........and i like the song also !

  • Wow! I love this, I will be trying the same thing for my 81 rabbit pickup, it is a mk1 but basically the same door card. GREAT Job.

  • goooood job and nice finishion WITH a name of song

  • look like shit!

  • How did you fasten the new lower panel to the door and/or existing door panel?

  • great vid!

  • Great job, the woodwork is what helped the final product look so good. I've been a installer for 15 years and can attest that you wont find a better job from anyone.

  • very clean i want to try to do this in a few places in my truck yours came out very nice well done

  • la verdad esta muy bien el trabajo

    se ve muy original

  • Comment removed

  • Great Vid. One thing though. How did you mount the final product to the door panel? Did you use screws, if so where did you create the holes and where did you screw it into?

    Thanks,

    Scott

  • @evocre8r I guess he took off the original panel and screwed through the back of it with wood screws?

And then snapped the whole thing back onto the door?

  • very cool project...if i decided to do something like this, would i need to fiberglass both sides, or just put resin on the backside so the front will stick better to it right? thanks!

  • @headstrong569 Thats right, about 3 coats of resin direct to the cotton cloth and then 3 or 4 layers of fiberglass mat and resin on the backside. It makes easier to sand the front for a smooth finish.

  • i was expecting to see Mortal Kombat 2 pics on his jetta :(

  • Thanks for the tip! i've made use of it and i made panels for the rear doors also :)

  • Thanks This is good. Now ive learned something.

  • great work! im going to attempt this!

  • good no screw head :D

  • how did u install the new anel to the door?

  • amazing job, i want to make a custom headlight bezel for my monte carlo and now i have an idea how, youv just made my day

    salu2

  • the carpentry teacher experience really showed with the frames good job dude!

  • Hey So does the Cotton cloth become a part of the new mould and what about the wooden frames do those stay or get removed at a later stage? i am new to this hence the questions could seem dumb but need to understand

  • @theblueoyster after the cloth is stapled to the frame, you apply the resin and let it harden, then you add the fiberglass cloth and resin. the wooden frame is left for strength and to have somewhere to screw it to the door panel from the inside.

  • good job

  • was this hard

  • good job very specific inst.

  • what tools did u use? and how to u shape the wood?

  • HEY DID U GET THE CUSTOM PANEL TO STAY IN

  • did you cover it with a brown vinyl or did you paint it?

  • it´s black vinyl actually

  • @hamacaman can I ask where u purchased the viny? I have found nothing but thick cheap non flexabile vinyl everywhere i order from ,,,I would appreciate your help

  • excellent build i have a mk2 golf that i am going to make some of these for thanks for making + posting this video :)

  • Nice

  • damn looks very oem good job

  • Sorry man I hadn't read the comments.

  • Dont worry man, glad you like it.

  • Great job vato! Just one question. how did you attach it to the door?

Gives me some great ideas for my wheels.

  • ass tons of glue

    lol

  • so how would you fiberglass the whole door panel like the whole thing

  • are you asking how to make a fiberglass door? Like the outside and all? That is a little bit more involved but its just fiberglass. If you get practice with fiberglass then you wont have a problem making most things with fiberglass

    BTW Hamacaman great tutorial

    salu2

  • great tutorial, I cant think of anything closer to do to my old school C3. Just one question, how do you mount the panel, I can't see any screw holes on the final result. You did a good Job.

  • thanks for the coment. I used 3/4" screw to attach the panel to the door from behind, so no screw heads are visible from the vynil side of the fiberglass panel, ist very easy to install, just use screw from behind that wont pass trough all the way to the front, just the necesary length.

  • very good

  • Great video, thanks for uploading.

Of course you forgot to show how you applied the vinyl!

But none the less, still a good vid. Thanks.

    5/5

  • its paint not vinyl!! u can see the shine!!

  • You can also see the texture of the vinyl ;-)

Paint doesn't leave a surface like that, you would either see:

    a) the texture of the wood underneath

    or

    b) if you've sanded the wood down you will get a smooth shiny surface on the paint (depending on which paint you use of course)

Yes in the video the surface has shine but it also has that characteristic vinyl texture.

    :-)

  • If you pause the video at 3:06 you can get a clearer view of the texture of the vinyl.

  • Nice job every clean looking.

  • Nice work man, i love results ;)

    Regards from Spain

  • looks good its right not rigth lol

  • hehee :p Thanks

  • Very nice. Great car and great kick panel.

  • good stuff nice in clean

  • Thanks man.

  • Looks awesome

How did you attach the new panel to the door panel (screws from behind ?)

Are the stock mounting clips strong enough to hold the new panel even with the music vibrating it?

    Thanks

  • 3/4" screws from behind the original door panel. I used abouth 30 in each door panel, so it doesn´t move or vibrates at all.

Saludos.

  • Hey man...Nice video! Now as you know you really find any headliners for the mk2s anymore...I just got one with my latest shell...Now it's made of pretty frail foam so I was thinking of doing a fiber mold and hopefully be able make one correct so it would be able to fit and strong enough to last. Any ideas on how?

  • wow, now thats a tough one. The only way it could be done (that i can think of) is making a "fake" headliner using cotton cloth and afther its installed in the car aply directly fiberglass resin, 2 or 3 coats, one at a time and let it dry.....nex tke it of and aply more fiberglass resin and fiberglass cloth to get it even harder, then sanding and upholstering will be in order. Any good upholsterer can make you the headliner out of cotton cloth. Let me know how it turns out.

  • I think I'll either reinforce the headliner or use it as the mold and do all you've said....let's see if it happens next week...LoL.THNX

  • how should i go about making a fender or a mudguard for a bike, would i need any framework in the piece or just something to mould it over? how much would it cost to get all the kit to make fibreglass peices too? thanks

Do you recommend using any sound deadening material in the enclosures, and Did you end sealing off the old speaker hole?

  • Where is the best place to get the fiberglass materials and the cloth?

  • If you live in the US try autozone, always have in stock in the paint and solvents department. For the cloth i use a cheap T-shirt, works for me.

  • hey, what did you use to apply the panel to the door?

  • Look for boat making companys or any other big company that makes 24/7 figerglass products.

If they are nice enough, they can sell "small" batch of resin, hardener and cloth for thousand times cheaper than some autozone or other ripoff places.

I found one company that makes truck cabinets out of fg. Price for materials is so much cheaper than anywhere else I have seen here where I live. 10 liters of acetone for only 5€ and 30€ for 10liter of resin and 1kg hardener.

  • looks great just curious how you install it when you have no visable screws or nails. do you just glue it or what. looks cool though

  • I think this is the most comun question i have recibe since i uploaded this video, the answare is simple....i screw it from behind trough the holes were the original door maps were screwed, i used 5/8 crome screws, the tip doens´t come out in the front since i used 3/4" thick MDF for the frame of the panels.

  • Very simple! Great job

    tu no usaste bondo?

  • Very Nice. Thanks for posting.

  • Ok did you fiber glass the top part to or just the bottum??

  • I fiberglassed the back part (the inner part), on the front wich is the part that you aply the vinyl y just aply 3 or 4 coats or the fiberglass resin, but not the fiberglass mat because this way you can sand it and wont itch, besides it leaves a smoother surface to work with. If you put the fiberglass mat and resin on the fron, it will be a pain in the but when sanding.

Saludos

  • im new to this were do i purchase all those materials to star a project like that...

  • what country do you live? If it is hte US autozone carries all the material, or a local hardaware stor, get in the yellow pages of your city and you will find someone who sells it.

  • wut fabric...igot flecc but wut kind...

  • its just a t shirt that y cut with some cissors, thats it

  • when you staple the cloth to the frame , do you just coat it in resin , or fiberglass mat aswell

  • First i just lay about 3 - 4 layers of resin in the front (the part that is going to be upholstered) and after is fully dry then i aply 3 - 4 coats of fiberglass mat in the back side. This way is very easy to sand the front of the panel and the finish is so much smooth, plus the resin does not itch you when you sand it, but the fiberglass mat with the resin...damn!!!

  • i've got a tip to stop that. before you start grinding or sanding at the new fibreglass coat your arms in talc powder or baby powder. sounds stupid but and makes you look pretty weird but if it stops that itching who cares. nice vid too btw

  • Bro you are the Man!... Nice and simple great tutorial!

  • as a car audio installer i think that you have done a very neat job. well done! i used to do a very similar trick but with a 6 4 and tweeter with a removable grill which had stone flek on the bessel!! how times have changed!

  • How exactly do you fasten the custom panel onto the door?

  • I used 3/4" screw trough the door panel into the MDF frame of the custom fiberglass door panle. The way the original door map holders were installed from the factory.

  • best speakers they're a little expensive one 8mind cost 169.99 eo but that depends on what type and size but only w four speakers you gonna be louder than someone with 8 or even 12 speakers, take a look on my videos or type beyma

    lo mejor jeje

  • will do!!

  • nice work Im working on a rear deck for 8 Beyma 8mi and next week with the doors for something like that but 4 beyma 65nd, my car looks like that he

  • Thanks. I know the beyma brand, but never have the oportunity to listen to those speakers and subwoofers, are they good? Compared to what other brand to give me and idea? The company has little or no presence in Mexico unfortunetly. Some gusy sell the brand over webpages here in mexico, its the onlu way to get them, no real dealers. :(

  • mine have to tabs that go under my door panels an have 2 screws an my map holder has 6 screws that show. i figured i can make the tabs work. jus gotta think of how to secure the bottom part of the box. thanks for helpin me!!

  • Mine also has 2 brakets, you can see 2 holes were the brakets are inserted in the video at 2:30 with the mapholders removed. If i wat to install the original mapholders those holes still works just fine. Let me know how it turn up yours. Good luck.

  • so ur sayin screw it in from behind the door? sorry for the questions!

  • No worry man. Thats correct, you have to screw it from behind the original door panel to the MDF frame of the new fiberglass door panel. That´s how y did it and thats how my original door mapholders come attached from the factory. Hope that helps.

  • how did you mount your fiberglass box to the door? i wanna do the same to my f150. i jus dont know how to mount it with out screws showin.

  • well, its very easy, the MDF frame that acts as the base of the door panels is 3/4", thats were you are gona fix the screws, so depending how thick is your original door panel you can select the screw length that you need, for exemple, if your original coor panel is 1/4" thick and the fiberglass door panel frame is 3/4" you can use 3/4" screws and wont show up in the front. Hope that helps.

  • freaking awesome!!! -from a pro installer.

  • thans man, if i had the luck of living in the US i swear i´ll be a pro installer too, unfortunately you can´t live of this here in mexico, people just dont pay fro a good installer and prefer to pay coins to wannabes, often with terrible results. Regards.

  • the cloth or cotton cloth, where do you get that from or what would i ask for at lets say home depot? well what i mean is would the know what i am talking about?

  • the cotton cloth is a cheap 3 dolar t shirt i got from my local grocery store, the fiberglas ressin and everything else you can find it at autozone for example at the paint department

  • haha sweet man... thanks for the video... should post more.. bout doing that to other stuff.. or tricks on it.. what not to do type a deal..

  • yeah, well, at the time a did the door panels i wasnt thinking in uploading a how to here in youtube, but now im gonna take more pictures and even some video of the installs i do for my friends. I´m about to make a custom fiberglass subwoofer box for a frind´s 2001 VW beetle turbo, it will showcase 2 subwoofers, an amp and its gona be painted to match the color of the car, check it out in the near future, i´ll say 3 weeks from now. Thanks for the comment.

  • the cotton cloth is a cheap 3 dolar t shirt i got from my local grocery store, the fiberglas ressin and everything else you can find it at autozone for example at the paint department

  • nice

  • one more thing how many layers would you recomend on the complete door panel thanks

  • 3 layers of fiberglass on the back side is more than enough. good luck with the proyect.

  • hamacaman thanks for this video you dont blep out a bunch of parts i can fiberglass soso and want to do my door panels but couldnt find any cloths at the stores they kept trying to sell me resin mats the tshirt is a good ideal thanks

  • anytime man

  • Great job and nice video!

  • Very nice job! I'm trying to fix up my door panels on a 95 Infiniti g20, but the more I work on it, the worse it looks. This will definitely help me. Can anyone tell me how I can spray fiberglass on the panels? Can I get that in a can or something? :) Thanks for any info.

  • well, i never have sprayed fiberglas before and i dont think it exist on a can, but if you want t try you can prepare the fiberglass resin and pour it on a spray gun, but i have to tell you, once the fiberglass starts to harden it will mess up the spray gun, so use a very cheap one so you can trow to the trash later. Good luck man.

  • Thank You Hamacaman, I really appreciate the tip. I never worked with fiberglass before, that's why I'm so green.:) I hope it works out and looks half as good as yours. You did a beautiful job!!

  • were can i get fiberglass from

  • try your local hardware store or superstore (the home depot for example)

  • ya but home depot has no clue for what the heck im talking about

  • Walmart usually has the same kind that HD has, its in the automotive section where all the paint and sandpaper too.

  • no not any more walmart does not have that

  • try autozone, i just find out they sell fiberglass resin kits in the car paint departmen

  • good job and nice video!

  • thats tight and its simple but makes such a a big difference

  • Good job amigo luce muy bien!

  • Thanks Santiago.

  • you have to use cotton clouth or it can be something else?

  • you can use other cloths as long as they are elastic up to some point, but avoid lycra for example or hevy nylon contents because it can melt and desintegrate due the fiber glass resin. I´ve seen guys using speaker cloth (the one used in home speakers and works just fine too, but i personaly use cotton because is a lot cheaper and easy to use, just buy a 3 dolar t-shirt and cut it, that´s what i did in this proyect. Hope that helps.
