  • for some reason when i was 2 this game scared the hell out of me!

  • One of the best games for the 5200, many hours played.

  • ORIGINAL PLAYSTATION RULES!!!!

  • Dig dug vs q Bert in a swearing contest q Bert wins

  • wow 4 different shades of... well. you know :s DIRT! :D

  • Who's the sadist who came up with this game?

  • Atari 5200 "Supersystem"

  • HD!

  • i luved dig dug when i was younger

  • what's the music at the beginning? sounds like Jean Michel Jarre

  • @UltraBibendum

Is not jarre. is Flock of Cowboys.

    Jarre is better :P

  • 1080p wow! I used to love this game as a kid. I played the arcade version and the Atari 2600 version back then. The 2600 version was actually pretty decent.

  • Dig Dug is a very nice man, he uses a bike pump to kill his enemies because he wants them to die happy, laughing from their crazy death. Nobody laughs when drowning or being killed by a chainsaw.

  • my dad got me a copy of this for cristmas this same virsion of the game for my atari

  • playit4fun.webs.com

    try this one

free hundreds of cool arcade/flash and mmorpg games

  • anyone ever play dig dug 2 on nes? that shit is weird.

  • They need to make a pump weapon for Minecraft.

  • Marks enthusiasm could make E.T playable.

  • DIG DUG!!!!!!!!!!!!! I used to play this game like a bitch when i was a kid :D

  • i love dig dug bro i love it

  • Dig Dug Would definitely win! He'd just shove his pump up Qbert's mouth/nose whatever that thing is, and blow him up into a million pieces.

My favorite version of Dig Dug is the original cab I have in the basement ;)

  • What a combination. CGR review of dig-dug while also watching G-1 Transformers. :)

  • looks like he is playing as the stig

  • q bert wood win

  • @nibelung34343 i don't have an xbox 360 i don't even have a PS3 so shut up dude.

  • 5 words namco museum dig-dug arrangement, namco museum is a ps2 game with pacman, pacman arrangement, ms pacman, digdug, and digdug arrangement

digdug arr. has several new power ups such as a lazer gun and meteor shower

  • I think da DS ver is cooler.

  • @allstarsnorks ORLY

  • As far as i can remember ,Dig Dug was probably the only game where you kill creatures by pumping, even until today.Imagine doing that today with current graphics. This game has hidden gratuitous violence in it (that's a joke by the way).

  • @johnwx777 hahaha i get it =]

  • He has made 4 reviews of this game on different consoles!!!

  • some bit other sound

  • You should get DIg Dug Arrangement for Namco Museum for the GameCube.

  • A special, secondary weapon where you flood the tunnels with water, you are asking for?

Guess what? That very concept has been explored. It's a classic Commodore 64/Atari 800 game called O'Riley's Mine. (There's a fine YouTube play through on it.)

You are O'Riley. Who has this mine shaft and a property full of minerals. Some nasty force threw some dynamite down into your mine. Now, you must go down, get everything and escape before it's all flooded out. And, some aliens run about.

  • So, you can't use a bicycle pump to kill the aliens with. Alas, you'll just have to do with sticks of dynamite and timing to smother them to death in a cave in, instead.

  • It isn't enough to go down to where the poor animals are minding their own business in their underground homes and slaughter them. No no, you have to make them SUFFER and die horribly in front of their babies. Hence the pump.

  • arenT' you supposed to hold down the fire button and not tap it?

  • good idea, the fire hose thing! come to think of it, pacman could use some new dots! (freeze dot, grow dot, ghost shrink dot etc.)

  • That's 'almost' too radical for Pac-Man sequels...outside of a Super Pac-Man 2 concept.

  • ah, digdug!

  • I love this game

  • It would be cool if in the FPS you'd have a map that represented you and the baddies by the way it looks now.

  • DIG DUG WOULD PWN Q-BERT

  • Sega genis controller is compatable with the 5200

  • Oh I love Dig Dug

  • Comment removed

  • almost every dig dug version is still the best classic game ever :)

  • i love dig dug my fav arcade classic n

  • digdug............qbert just jumps around...he SHOOTS PEOPLE WITH A BIKE FREKIN PUMP!

  • Digdug Whold TOTTALY

     WIN

  • digdug isn't mean :(. Animals living underground deserve to be blown up with a bike pump.

  • @rocko7x Your ANTI-Fur is showing. (J/k, but that comment's a BIT extreme, don't cha think?)

  • @rocko7x That cause there black isnt it?

  • What dark secrets lie in Dig Dug's past? LOL.

  • I seriously doubt that I could come up with a story line that would explain Dig Dug's past. Who else in all of time has used a bike pump as a weapon, anyhow??? And, enemies that can shed and spawn new bodies at will? How does Mr. Dug displace all the dirt so quickly?

Those and many other questions may never be answered. So, just repeat to yourself, "This is just a video game. i should really just relax. And play, 'Dig Dug for the Atari...fifty-two hundred."

  • dig dug is a villian

going down where there are living peaceful creatures, exploding them using his bike pump ? like god damn

  • I still have my Atari 2600! It has the switch for Black N White Tv or Color.lol. I used to luv playing it

  • I still have my Atari 2600! I used to luv playing it.

  • lol... the last death on the reveiw was mad!

  • If only there was a 3d version on a newer system.

  • So...you face a wall of dirt in the dark. Your trusty, 3-D spade shovels away the dirt and you walk forward into...a wall of dirt in the dark. Repeat, repeat, repeat until a ghostly face pops out, becomes Frygar and kills you in a heartbeat.

It's just not Dig Dug if you can't constatly be digging. And, the first person viewpoint robs you of dodging those deadly ghosts until they are on top of you. Having 2-D radar avoids that. But, that defeats the point of 3-D...

  • Damn, now I wanna play DIG DUG! :)

  • omg what a suck cmment

Clearly I am a master of parody, eh?

  • The person probably never heard of an arcade and only knows XBox/XBox 360 and PS2/PS3 graphics.

  • Most likely indeed.

  • Which is the only time that you think they look like crap. And the only times that it can't be fun. It was like when the PS2 came out that I only had a PS1 and I STILL thought the arcade version looked awesome!

  • There you go then: what's-his-face is a fool of the highest calibre.

  • And at least back then games didn't suck a lot.

  • I wasn't aware they "sucked a lot" nowadays. They may be less clever, but they have their charms.

  • I'd say we have at least 2.5x as many bad games as we did then...

  • Even counting the big influx of tripe the Atari sadly received at the later end of its life?

  • I don't know at all about that.

Many of today's games have teams to whole armies across multiple continents involved. Takes months to years.

Back in the '80s, most games were under 1 meg. Heh...even under 128 k. Good programmers could power out bad games in weeks to months. Programming could be done by lone wolves or small teams.

The past had no shortage of bad games. Just many could slip by, unnoticed.

  • go back to your xbox 360

  • FPS? NOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • Is Dig Dug the Stig?

  • gatta watch for that bike pump

  • Fuck the song of the beginning its so adictive!

  • it's awesome got it on pc

  • n64 namco museum, good times. still have it.

  • wow i had this on atari it was awesome

  • ha i remember this i had it on the play station for the pacman museum collection disc but i always wanted it again.

  • i had Dig Dug for NES. but my Dig Dug broke :(

  • lol that sounds nasty

  • man this game was and still is awsome

  • Your good at this game:) i like this game

  • GO DIG DUG

  • Digdug fps...well, he DOES kinda look like master chief lol

  • Ahh... I remember this :)

  • I bought dig dug for the 2600 for only 50 cents the other day. I was shocked at the price for a classic game. I love this game soo much.

  • The best classic games from that era are usually cheap. There were a lot of copies produced because they were popular and the games are not in high demand because you can probaly find them in game collections like Namco Museum.

  • I loved the NES version.

  • i always thoght digdug was a crocodile. the cartrige says difrently.

  • the one game i dont suck at

  • LMFAO this was my first game i ever played in my PC! i liked that game alot! The highest level i got to was lvl 33 and after that :P i lost, it was hard as hell LOL

  • Dig Dug would murder Qbert

  • Screw Attack had a vid about Dig Dug man it was funny how Greg was calling Dig Dug guy a killer ha

  • these old class games were the shit and still are.. fuck these new school games even though theyre fun..

    same thing with cartoons

  • remember Mummiez?

  • hey, the new Transformers cartoon was the best thing since Beast Wars

  • you mean Only season 3 of it....

  • no, I mean ALL of it. From "Transform and Roll Out" all the way to "Endgame".

  • nope

  • ....what do u mean nope?

  • N/M

  • right if you don't ike old games why watch the vid when the title shows that its for the 5200 not a 360 ok

  • Not Pac-Man but Boulder Dash or Digger.

  • does anyone know why youtube has been crawling at a snail's pace lately?

  • It hasn't for me. Its only slow when my internet is being stupid. But it is always a little slow.

  • That's been happening to me too.

  • I remember back in the day (aka 2002/03)

i would go to my friends place 2 doors down and play smash bros. (I wasn't allowed to own the game back then) and play this game. mostly because I loved the sound and I loved blowing up the enemies. I didn't figure out I was supposed to do that until playing for a long time. but i was 5!

  • i can c dig dug as a FPS

  • digdug would make a good horror movie

  • the sound is great , the graphic is nice!

    WHAT!

  • its graphics ARE nice 9 year old...

  • Played this on the 360. Really annoying without a pure 4-way directional pad. The 8-way throws you off in the wrong direction a lot. Theres an achievement to dig through every square on the screen from every direction which was tough.

  • i have dig dug 39 4 my mobile phone

  • played on xbox 360 demo at my m8s

  • I play this on my ps3, but It only has 2 level cause it's a demo.

  • You are really good at that game.

  • I remember playing this. It's awesome!

    5/5

  • this game is great, my first time playaing it was on the nintendo 64

  • I think Dig Dug is my favourite game among the retro-atari-arcade style games that were around in the early 80's, it just had so much more depth to it. I think my first time playing it was on the NES though.

  • am i the only one who things that dig dug looks a little bit like master chief?

  • Too hard to tell from the pixels they used, basically he looks like anybody with a helmet on.

  • you must be, cuz dig dug looks more like a cybornetic pac-man terminator to me, but then again i'm retarded

  • COOL,nice review

  • DigDug would kill Q*bert just like he kills everything else with a bicycle pump.

  • I think the 7800 version of Dig Dug is better than this one, even tho it has that kinda chunky look. This is still a damn nice version, I played it ALOT back in the day.

  • Hold onnnnnnnnnnnnn does that make this Stig-dug? :D

  • Dig Dug No Remorse!

  • "Don't inflate me, bro!" That's all that's been on my mind lol

    great review, mark.

  • Very old game but very addictive classic

  • i think that those creatures are eating dig dug's plants that why he kills them.

  • does anyone remember Mr. Do?

  • u should review dig dug 2 for nes

  • yay

  • Haha Dig Dug looks like the Stig from Top Gear the car show.

Some say that by night he turns evil and strangles miners with bike pumps... and some say that he has no knowledge of the term 'mercy'. All we know is... he's called the Stig!

  • lol, yeah i was thinking he looks like Stig.

  • Some say that he is Chuck Norris' removed growth... Others say he ONLY uses universal money...All we know is... he's called the Stig!

  • LOL, Stig mini :P

  • Some say that when he eats he doesn't chew he licks the food and is fed and some say that he has no face. All we know is he's called von Stig

  • This game is old.......

  • This was one of my favourites on the C64 :)

  • LoL at the end, anyway that was an awesome review!!

  • Isn't Mr. Driller technically a sequel to this?

  • yeah

but its wasn't confirmed by Namco

  • @siegerzeon Somewhat NO... DDDS (Digging Strike) IS the OFFICIAL sequel.

  • The enemies are robots that want to take over the durt..lol We cant have that now can we....

  • it would be imposibe to do fps and use boulders you couldnt tell were there at

  • i like the classics and all but if you made them they would have been even MORE KICK ASS!!!!!

  • great review! Hey you know that dig dug made an appearance in the Nintendo DS game called MR. Driller drill spirits! I think that was the name ok game too but yea he can be unlocked in that game

  • lol IM WATCHING THIS ON INTERNET BROWSER ON PS3!

  • So?

  • Check out Dig Dug in Namco x Capcom, he is indeed a badass.

  • Dig Dug looks like the Stig.

  • lol, topgear reference. nice.

  • this is one of the greatest games to every exist! love this game!

  • Dig Dug FTW!!!

  • Not to knock the 7800 but why did they revert the sound abilities to the 2600, it's really obvious when you compare the 7800 games to the 5200 versions just how far they backed up. I'm guessing it was the state of Atari at the time.

  • last game Dig Dug made an apperance was an RPG, Namco x Capcom(aka where Xiamou and Reji first appeared) He had a Giant Rifle that had Spikes. He made Earth Tremors with it. as well as A Gun.

  • Dig Dug 3D. Dig Dug runs around with an eraser haircut, sunglasses and a tank top while inflating enemies with SMG bike pumps spouting one-liners like "BLOW IT OUT YOUR ASS".

  • Dig Dug Nukeum Forever!

  • i still play this one! awesome!

  • This game is so much fun. I like the challenge it has to it. Easy in the beginning then gets harder as you advance through the levels. I have this game on the Namco Museum on the PS2.

  • I've always wondered why Dig Dug chose a Pump as a weapon... My guess is that you don't have to worry about running out of ammo.

  • OMG! It's great to recall those old times! I've played this game on my still existant Commodore 64!

  • hmm... i heard it was very famous... but this is the first time i have seen this game!

  • what a classic.

  • Great review, as always. Entertaining and thought-provoking. See, Mark asks the questions few ask about 1980s arcade game characters. Now I'm thinking we need a Dig Dug prequel that explains his bike pump fetish.

  • Pole Position was my favorite for the Atari 5200

  • A better fight would be Qbert vs Jekyll from Jekylll and Hyde for the NES since neither of them have an attack.

  • Dig Dugg would win. Qbert has no weapons or attacks.

  • The commodore vic 20 version is good!!

  • Don't know why, but I've never been a Dig Dug fan. I mainly found it too easy.

  • I agree, your idea for the first person shooter version of Dig Dug sounds pretty cool.

  • hell ya.

  • Dig Dug would win just because Qbert only hops away from his enemys and never attacks them. Then Dig Dug would only need to bicycle pump Qbert in the back as he's trying to hop away.

  • I forgot how much I loved this game! Thanks for reviewing it.

  • dig dug never came out on the US nes and that just makes me sad cause dig dug looks BADASS!

and dig dug 3d... I can see that... i can also see it looking like wolfenstien lol.

  • dig dug did come out on the nes

  • dig dug 2 came out on the us nes but dig dug only came out for the nes in japan
